They provide a variety of medical services to veterans. More often than not it is at no charge to the Veteran unless you are non-service connected, then there is a small fee you have to pay to get medical services and prescriptions. For medical care they do not provide or cannot provide, they generally will outsource you to the university of Cincinnati Medical Center, or whatever hospital that is located near you. I have never received bad care from them and they seem to have top-notch doctors in place. I know this is not everybody's experience, but it has been mine over the years. I have been using the VA since I was laid off work 3 years ago and just haven't gone back to a civilian dr. I just never thought of checking in at a hospital before. I was here today for my neurologist appointment, as normal I am early because I am that way. Parking can be a pain but they are working on that, and the hospital is a wee dated. By this I mean you can still see the old mail shoots going from floor to floor in the main corridor near the elevators. But this doesn't make it a bad place. I have been here many times and the only issue I have had has been the free WiFi doesn't seem to work. It is basically mint working. At least for everything I have tried. I got here for my appointment and sat down after grabbing a coffee in the lobby and checking in at the desk. I was overheating people complaining the dr was running behind schedule. Well since I have been seeing the dr for a few years and this is the first time this has happened I have no issues. Heck take care of the customer in front of you. So I got to see my dr maybe 30-45 minutes late. That happens, heck it is free! Okay it did cost but not money. All went well. So why only 4 stars. Well I did make the mistake of trying to eat a to go burger in the cafe. Huge mistake. I have had better meals at sea in the forward galley and all they ever served was chicken patties and ketchup with no bun. Take it from me. Don't eat the wrapped burger. read more

Saw a lot of negative reviews, in my case (March 2022) I went in at 1500hrs without an appointment for an x-ray. I walked in and a staff member directed me to where I needed to go and was seen then on my way. In and out in about 25 min. All staff members were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. (Florence location was the same way when I went for an initial appointment with my new PCM) read more

I can't for the life of me see how this place is allowed to run as a hospital. My father has been there 2x's in the past 6 weeks. His O2 at rest is in the low 90's to high 80's, but the moment he moves or exerts himself they drop to the 70's. They continue to ship him out with no explanation. He doesn't qualify for short term facility rehab due to O2 stats and capabilities to participate. They schedule test/appointments without you knowing so you miss them. They send meds, BUT a week after you needed them! There phone lines are down often. Either at the hospital itself or at out patients facilities. If you have to go to another hospital (not associated w/the VA) and don't notify them in 72 hours, they will not pay for it. WILL NOT PAY! Patients families do not know this. If anyone thinks government run healthcare is the future should head but a nail. It will hurt less and you'll have a better chance of surviving. This isn't how you care for your soldiers. They signed a blank check when they joined the military. They put their lives on the line. This is how they are treated in the end. Pathetic absolutely pathetic. This the worst place for veterans to go for rheumatology care. I went in for my service connected condition which had been under the care of John Hopkins and stable for 2 years. The rhuemetologist came into the room for two minutes, some snotty intern disagreed with the top doctor in the world for my condition, and they took me off the medication because they disagreed with John Hopkins! Again I had been stable for two years on this medication. I only went because my 2 year claim had finally gone through. Truth? They just didn't want to pay for the Imuran. After being pulled off this medication, I ended up in the hospital in organ failure. I had begged them to keep me on it but they didn't. And I went to another hospital and chose to pay out of pocket because this VA Hospital would rather not spend the $60 on monthly chemo and let someone die. Their gynecological care is awful too. Their answer to everything is birth control. Even when I told them I couldn't die to hormone sensitivities and previous experiences, they wrote me a script anyway and I never saw the doctor. Turns out I have ovarian failure. They wouldn't even do a blood test. Useless place. read more

VAMC, Cincinnati, OH: Nuclear Medicine, Never Again!! Had an appointment for some diagnostic testing requested by my Primary Care Physician, never, ever again will I visit or have services provided by that Department. A supposed to be up to 4hrs appt., turns into over 5.5hrs. Staff errors, not making sure prior/before protocol tests are performed for during and after comparisons, faulty and equipment malfunctions requiring a complete restart retesting from start to finish, thank you but no thank you ever again. Now days later, having medical problems which were none of prior to the diagnostic test overall fail with severe kidney pains and steady headache like none ever before. Now what's to be done? A premonition prior to leaving home for that appt., said: "don't go, something's not right," having rescheduled that appt., once before, decided to go, costly mistake which now cannot be undone. Never again when a premonition in regards to VAMC, Cincinnati foremost thoughts will it be passed off again. read more

I hate to say this but this is the worst hospital that I have ever seen. I have been service connected for Diabetes for the last four years and was placed on the pump when I was receiving care at the Columbus VA. When I moved to Cincinnati VA I was told that, "per their policies they do not cover the insulin pump" so they decided to place me on the insulin pin. My blood sugar levels had resins to the point of over 600 comma status not once but twice. So I had ask to see the policy that they reference to and could not get it. Needless to say I was admitted again and now 100% disabled due to my kidney function and cardiovascular issue. I now travel to Columbus VA for my Endo care and my private doctors in Cincinnati for all other care even service connected care for second opinions. One last thing when I was admitted to the Cincinnati VA hospital they had no heat or hot water for the four days I was there unacceptable. I can not see how a hospital operates under such conditions. read more

The staff here has always been extremely pleasant. I've been receiving service here for about 10 years now. No complaints.

I've received care there for 6 years and have always been treated with dignity and respect. The medical treatment is great. The only negative thing I can say is that parking sucks sometimes. read more

Up until last year I would say that this facility did a great job of taking care of veterans...The truth is that my experiences with the VA during the past 6-12 months have been bad. Poor customer service. Bad attitudes from one or 2 staff members sets the standard and gives a bad impression. I complained about a nurse practitioner at the OEF/OIF clinic for her(his) unprofessional and confrontational behavior and the staff actually played it off like he-she was "just teasing" yet he-she slammed the office door when I did not let myself be drawn into his hormone imbalance silliness. Just last week I had a procedure done and when I woke up DURING the procedure the doctor was like "I like for the patient to be waking up at the end of the procedure"..WHAT?! No way is this the way it's done at a "real" hospital. This scenario was absolutely inappropriate and this was according to other nurses and doctors that I personally know. Also, when I came back from Afghanistan I was supposed to have dental work done and when I called about scheduling I was told I was no longer eligible even though the dental problems were identified...I could not get an appointment in time before my coverage lapsed so now I am paying for it out of my pocket. These situations are not uncommon experiences for veterans...this stuff happens all the time. The VA Director, McDonald should be sacked/fired and someone else should be put over the VA to stop these situations from taking place. What works at P&G does not work for VETERANS that need/require medical care and I just have to say this...Mr McDonald, stop comparing veterans receiving medical care to Disneyland or Burger King. read more

This hospital does not even deserve 1 star. My husband had been receiving health care for his diabetes for 6 years. Went to his regular appt., and out of the blue was turned away stating his income was too high to receive benefits. The asian receptionist would not even let him speak to the phy. to get his perscriptions refilled until he found another phy. to go to. No concern for his health what so ever. He updated the financial records ever year with the VA. and income was never a problem. Total disreguard to a persons health!!! read more

I have been under the VA care since about 1985. It started at the Baltimore VA. Back then, women were scarce in the urology department, so things were really bad for me whenever I was admitted for procedures. I have a rare bladder disease that the VA seldom ever sees, so I became their human guinea pig. I do not exaggerate when I say that I have received over 100 surgical procedures on my bladder that was so barbaric as to be considered torture. I hated having to go to the VA for anything because it was always an all-day affair, even if the appointment was for 8:30 am. I am happy to say they have improved significantly over the years, and there are certain clinics and medical personnel that I absolutely LOVE, but there are those that I also despise. I despise the VA GI department in Cincinnati. They ruined my life. The VA is trying to recoup all the money they spend on uninsured veterans by hitting my private insurance for every single thing I have happen there, even though it is illegal. I am service connected, receive 100%, and they cannot bill insurance for sc care. But they keep doing it. They also can't bill insurance if they can't provide a service you need, But they still do it. I am gearing up to battle with them again because they need to reimburse my insurance for many thousands of dollars. Last year, because of their mistake, I was sent to University Hospital to have a colostomy. My surgery and month long stay in critical care unit was $1 million dollars. It was supposed to be covered by the VA, but they billed medicare and my insurance. That's fraud in my eyes. I'm still fighting them because they won't let me see outside GI docs because they have a clinic full of them. I want nothing to do with them. When I arrived vomiting stool due to a blocked bowel, they did nothing to clear the blockage and sent me home telling me don't eat. What? It happened twice. Then they referred me to UC where I got incredible care. But I still think they should pay for what happened to my colon. Dr Weesner should have retired long before he ever became a doctor. I have less than no respect for that man. I blame him for all of it. My rating is based on what happened last year and the GI department. I would give 10 stars to my primary care team. read more
