Kathleen went above and beyond accommodating us. She described a few items on the special menu. Antonio and Kathryn made us feel very welcomed, by engaging in short conversations with us. Antonio was so generous, he came over to our table to share a special bread that is only baked on Easter in Italy. The overall experience was phenomenal. True Family & Friendly Spirit! Best food I have had on Long Island in a long time! To get a reservation we needed to arrive by 5:15 so the restaurant was quiet but when we left at 7 it was hoppin and people were eating at the bar! My husband and I enjoyed our experience at Uva Rossa. We started with the Bruschette and the portion size are generous, and the two we chose were very good. We also ordered the burrata barese which was also delicious. For our entrees, my husband had the Paiella Italiana which he said was very tasty and flavorful. This unassuming restaurant is absolutely adorable on the inside! Take a look at the photos and you'll see what I mean - better yet, come and visit this rustic Italian restaurant. I had the white peach sangria which was so flavorful and quite strong and probably one of the best white peach sangrias I've ever had. To share, we had the eggplant balls, gnocchi in vodka sauce, and the spaghetti alla carbonara. All were so delicious and much better than the Italian restaurants we've eaten at in Garden City. The seasonings were on point; nothing was too salty or didn't have enough salt. The portion sizes were great - we had leftovers and I thoroughly enjoyed heating that up the next day for lunch. Our meal here at Uva Rossa transported us back to our time in Italy! The staff is warm and welcoming. The hostess recalled my name from our reservation / confirmation conversation which was amazing! We were seated immediately and quickly served bread and butter. Service is very attentive and quick. This is greatly appreciated! We did 2 small plates and the burrata appetizer for our meal. The drinks, a delicious peach sangria and a vodka cranberry cocktail, were large and excellent! We order 3 meats for the meat board (Bresaola, Porchetta Toscana, and Cacciatorino). On our Bruschetta board: Pickled figs, taleggio cheese and roasted pistachio, Ricotta, prosciutto and rosemary roasted cherry tomato, and Goat cheese, cranberry and pistachio. Our third plate was the burrata a creamy mozzarella, grilled hot coppa, and roasted peppers. We had room for dessert and ordered the chocolate tartufo and the hazelnut tartufo. Located in the heart of charming Malverne, we found a new and comfortable place to dine. It was hard to narrow down the choices but we had to start somewhere. We had the apps of brussel sprouts, which were in a balsamic sauce and so ultra perfect. The cheese platter was a second great choice, with almonds, honey and grapes. Entrees of Chicken Scarpiello, Branzino, and short rib with Risotto blessed our little table next. And we had another app of dates with cheese as dessert.... and wow, what a great choice that was! Unfortunately, "supply and demand" has poorly outstripped the service and courtesy capacity of management when it comes to service at this "restaurant". It appears this place has become the "only place in town" in the minds of the folks at this small town. As a result, management lacks the motivation or ability to properly treat its clientele with courtesy, service, and safety. Safety: This place was packed, and extremely loud, creating a cramped experience - with waiters banging into each other, and its customers, constantly. I suspect there was a fire code violation in this establishment with respect to overcrowding and aisle access! Don't shout "fire" in this place for sure. Service & Courtesy: Upon arriving, we were told that if each of our party of 8 did not appear precisely on time - our reservation would be lost! Upon seating, the waitress was literally falling over us while taking our orders as she was being bumped by other waiters squeezing bye constantly. She was screaming, and unfortunately spitting, to overcome the noise from the overcrowded restaurant. Would you believe - we were told that we had to receive our appetizers and meals at the same time! Talk about poor management! Thereafter, their waiters began aggressively removing our plates moments after the last morsel of our food was consumed - and we were quickly warned that other customers were waiting for our table - so we needed to hurry along. The food was OK - but do not consider this place if you want good service, a peaceful experience, and would like to hear your friends and family speaking to you! Conclusion: I am surprised, and suspicious, by the amount of good reviews this place received on this site. Located in the town of Malverne on the south shore of Long Island this wine bar has stole my heart. Absolutely amazing food and customer service. I couldn't believe that this small-town gem would be so amazing. Yes I've drove by this place so many times over the years but never would've thought what I was missing out on, oh I was so wrong. I could totally kick myself for not coming in sooner all these years and I've been missing out on this hidden little gem. The food is absolutely to die for I started with the meat platter pencetta and the prosciutto 2 for $12 I then moved on to my entrée which I ordered the meatballs. I'll be honest I'm not really meatball kind of person but the photos posted on Yelp looked so good that I had to order. If you love meatballs you definitely have to try there's they were absolutely spectacular the best meatballs I've ever had. they were soft, chewy and packed with just enough flavor and of course goes down great but a few glasses of wine. Great customer service, tentative and not overbearing. Great spot for a romantic date night. I will definitely be a returning customer. read more

In a nutshell, they hyped it up for us and Uva Rossa delivered. Firstly, the ambiance is awesome. Perfect for a date night or small get together with friends. Rustic Italy meets modern and trendy. The restaurant seemed to seat many but small enough that it maintains an intimate feel. The evening commenced with fresh bread and a vast wine selection. Our group listened intently as the waitress meticulously listed off the specials of the day. (side note: don't ignore this part and pretend you're listening. You may think you know what you want already because you read the menu on your way over to the restaurant. The specials are out-of-bounds, creative and are not to be disregarded) We shared various appetizers, Italian meats and could not get enough. I ordered a special rigatoni dish for my main course and devoured it. Didn't need a dessert, but still went for it. Everything at Uva Rossa was on-point. I'm ready for my next visit. read more

It kills me to write this review right now, but it needs to be done. The last few experiences I've had here have been super disappointing. A few months ago my boyfriend and I sat at the bar for some drinks and food. My boyfriend ordered about six or seven glasses of draft wine (awesome feature) and not one glass of wine was on the house. I thought that was weird. Next experience, I came here with my boyfriend on a weeknight. Our waiter came to take our drink order and my boyfriend ordered wine on draft. When he got his glass of wine, there was some pieces of either cork or crumbs, which either way sucks because if it's crumbs then the glass was dirty, if it's cork then they didn't give the draft wine like he asked. My boyfriend asked the waiter for another glass just in case. Then we were told we had to order our appetizers and entrees at the same time... why? I understand they were busy, but I don't like feeling rushed. We ordered the fried calamari (delicious), and the burrata appetizer. When I took a bite of the burrata I immediately wanted to spit it out, my boyfriend looked at me and said it's sour right? Sour isn't even the right word. We called the waiter over and apologized for our second complaint of the night. He asked what we would like instead of the burrata and we said anything that doesn't have prosciutto (because I don't eat it). When he came out with our new appetizer it was spaghetti pie wrapped in bacon, when he put it down he was like it's bacon if you don't eat prosciutto you probably don't eat bacon. I said it's fine I'll eat around it. It was good. Our entrees were good and the dessert was good as well. But what really ruined this night for me is when we got the bill. I am FAR from a cheap person, but when they're giving me an appetizer as a result of the original appetizer being bad, then why should I be charged for it? I was so disappointed. Side note: a hefty penny is dropped every single time I'm here and not once was I ever offered a drink or dessert on the house. Most recent experience, came here over the weekend to sit at the bar for food and drinks with my boyfriend again, but the bar was full. So we sat in the little side room that has the large farm table so we can watch tv and just hang out and drink. Once we sat down we were given water, menus, and bread right away. Twenty minutes later, not one waiter or waitress came by to take a drink or food order. We got up and left and no one even noticed we were walking out the door. I can't say I'll never be back, because I truly do love this restaurant. But for as often as I go, and for the bad experiences I've had time after time, a much needed break needs to be taken from here. They are looking to make money any way they can, they don't give back to their loyal customers, and their service has come to sh*t. Sorry to say. read more

Uva Rossa pleasantly surprised me. Girl dates are the best I had a wonderful first experience dining here a few times with my girl friends. I've dabbled with a few items on the menu, the burrata, stuffed dates, grilled brussel sprouts, insalata di palma and the Polpetta della nonna (meatballs). Everything is so delicious but I was expecting more from the meatballs. Perks: there is a great variety, even for my pescatarian friends. Its 15 minutes from my house and down the block from my best friends place. I went on a Thursday and it was so crowded, Sundays were a little less crowded. The first time the service was slower. Herman, the bartender, has suggested a Montepulciano Filomusi Guelfi and it is robust and delicious. I'm familiar with this wine from traveling in Italy. I saw some recommendations on Yelp so I've ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. The reviews are exactly right. Roasted in olive oil, balsamic vinegar with goat cheese and speck. Really delightfully different. A nice way to start a meal. This is not your basic Italian fare, it has a splash of Barefoot Contessa flair! The atmosphere is modern and very upbeat. Not really a Malverne atmosphere, more Manhattan, and I can see the folks are not from this town. The main course has arrived. Tagliata Toscana, grilled skirt steak with green sauce over a bed of baby arugula and tomato. Well the steak is cooked medium rare to perfection. This is a lot of food. And very filling. The bar has a contrasting beautiful white bar top set up and is staged with a place mat and dinner setting. We ended up staying at the bar because of this little touch!
