Safe Ship

Safe Ship

I really wish I'd read reviews like this one before I booked…read more Safe Ship picked up my furniture for an interstate move. About two weeks later -- the same day I signed my new lease -- I sent them my destination address and move-in date. And then... nothing. I called. I called again. I kept calling for over a week before anyone bothered to respond. Meanwhile I'm sitting in an empty apartment I'm paying rent on, with no idea where my stuff is or when it's coming. Delivery finally happened more than a month after pickup. And the cherry on top? The driver calls me the day before to say I owe hundreds of dollars extra because the truck they loaded my stuff onto is too big for the streets at my destination, so they have to transfer everything to a smaller one. I gave them this address weeks earlier. Weeks to look at a map. Instead they wait until I have literally no choice but to pay whatever they ask. And this is after they already jacked up the price right before my move date -- conveniently once it was too late for me to back out or find anyone else. I'm not someone who writes reviews. I'm writing this one because I spent over a month stressed out of my mind, sleeping in an apartment with no furniture, getting ignored, and then getting handed a bill for their mistake. That's the experience. If you're reading this trying to decide: they're a broker, not an actual moving company. They hand your stuff off to someone else and then stop answering the phone. Avoid this company at all cost!

It's been a while since our move from Texas to Colorado but I feel that I need to warn my fellow…read moreAmericans of how awful these people were. It all began with a phone call. Now my husband made the initial call and arrangements with Safe Ship. They didn't come to the house, simply wanted an inventory over the phone. ADVICE: Use a company who will come into the house and do the inventory for you. This cost us greatly later. They After getting bids from three companies, my husband opted for Safe Ship. He also added on packing services. He had to leave and go out of town so I handled the follow up call. They verified the inventory over the phone. Moving Day arrives. I had packed up actually a fair bit of stuff and I am glad I did. They showed up very late. They looked around and said "you have more stuff than we thought". And demanded a cashier's check in the amount of $3000 or they turn around. We were dumbfounded. Seeing little option we went to the bank and got the check. They took it and went to work. The men were not very nice. The "packing" was abhorrent. My KitchenAid stand mixer was "padded" with my glass tumblers. My paintings were stuck face to face together (destroyed). So many things were broken. And they used this awful brown tape that, to this day, I still have to look at because I cannot take the residue off. The following day a new crew arrive. They are angry because the first crew didn't get as much done as needed (well, yeah, they were 6 hours late). Of course our items arrive super late (no surprise there). The unloaders were better, the main guy was an engineering student so he was on top of things and let us know that he fired the guy smoking in our bathroom. Considering everything else, that was not really a concern of mine. Predatory company. Shady business practices. A lack of accountability. Do not use Safe Ship.

Beware of hidden destination charges! There's no way to predict them and AMID will take no…read moreresponsibility for them, even if such charges are in error. I needed to ship 80 lbs of personal effects from Boston, USA to Vienna, Austria. I was looking for an economical (but not necessarily fast) option. With USPS no longer offering ground shipping, companies that ship by ocean are hard to find these days for a small, one-time shipment such as this. When AMID quoted me $275, I thought it was a good deal. The initial communication was excellent, they provided clear instructions on how to deliver the packages to the terminal in Boston, and good updates on the shipment's progress. A month later, when I went to pick up the packages in Vienna, a nasty surprise awaited. I was told that for various destination charges, I owed an extra 499.88 euros in cash! One item on that invoice was 263.82 euros for transport from Hamburg (the destination ocean terminal) to Vienna, although AMID's bill of lading stated that freight was prepaid all the way to Vienna. At first AMID agreed that this was a double charge, but then they changed their tune and won't be any help in getting this back. Bottom line, I ended up paying 3 times what was quoted, and would've been better off using FedEx, DHL or whatever air shipping service which would have taken a fraction of the time. The value of my personal goods never justified this cost. BTW I'm not very experienced at this, but not a total novice. In 1998 I used a similar service (unfortunately now defunct) to ship personal effects from the US to France, and did not encounter any surprise charges on arrival. So this is definitely a problem with how AMID handles this, and essentially washes itself of any responsibility for what happens upon arrival.

I sent 11 boxes with my used personal goods to my brother in Germany using AMID Logistics, planning…read moreto come later to pick them up myself. AMID Logistics did not tell me I have to be present in Germany to pick up the goods and have several documents and a detailed packing list of the items in German, otherwise I would have to pay almost 1000 euros because my items were considered commercial, which was the case. The reply to my question as to where it is mentioned in the contract that I have to be present in Germany to pick the items up and why I had to pay extra 1000 euros is below. They wrote to me some countries, such as India follow whats called a Gemini rule for Personal Effects, where the shipper and the receiver must be the same individual. They also wrote Germany did not follow this law. I think this company is unprofessional and made me lose money. I paid $320 to send my boxes with them and almost 1000 euros to import them in Germany.
