Five stars go out the US postoffice, and 5 extra stars to the nice guy that helped us. Wow, he…read moreknows wat service is all about. The US Postoffice should cherish this kind of employees. They make your business. We're on a roadtrip for 3 and somewhat weeks, visiting from The Netherlands. And of course, again, I bought too much Christmas ornaments. - Little note, on every trip I try to buy some local ornaments so when Christmas arrives I can look at a tree full of memories. - This time a Departement 56 Harley Davidsons motel. And that are not things to get in our already overweight luggage easily. So we considered sending it home. We first made inquiries at FedEx in Nashville because we walked by. Estimated costs: over $200. For that price I a can buy an extra suitcase and pay for extra luggage. So we looked further. In Gatlinburg we visited this post office learning that our package can be send to Europe for a little over $50, including our map and two travelguides we didn't need anymore. Huge difference. But that's not the only reason for the 5 star rating. The guy behind the counter is. He took all the time in the world helping us to fill in the forms, get the stuff boxed, and giving advice about some choices to made. In the mean time he helped several other local customers with quick questions without giving us the feeling he wasn't totally there for us. And in the post office hangs a painting depicting him and a little boy. Make sure to ask him about it. It has to do with 9/11 and I had trouble keeping my eyes dry. And no worries, he wasn't pushy, I asked him about the painting and that made him tell the story. And excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes. English is not my first language. And if that isn't bad enough, my Apple device keeps changing words into 'proper Dutch'. Yes, you've guessed right, my first language.

In many countries these days, it's practically impossible to 'mail' something with an expectation that it will arrive unpilfered or undamaged. Not so with our USPS! Pilfering is virtually unheard of, and anyone found doing so is severely punished. Occasionally something arrives squished, but THATZ a rare occurrence. During 'rush' times there can be a line, true. But the clerks always take the time to insure that every customer ahead of you is fully served, just as they do with you. Quite often, they offer advice regarding the 'best' shipping options, too! I like that they offer shipping supplies, and there's a decent rack of holiday, birthday, and Thank You cards in stock. Yesterday there was a line. A line worthy of Christmas. An elderly gentleman was having trouble understanding the process of sending a package. The clerk was unruffled, and took all the time necessary to help the fellow ship his gift. All the while the smile never left her face. Even when grumbly patrons, tired of the delay, stood at her counter afterwards. And even when I approached asked detailed questions regarding changes in passport application procedures! ADA access is excellent. Parking here is good. The facility is clean. Exiting south (left) onto Maynardville Hwy can be a bit dangerous, but the light at Emory Road crossing will provide the needed gap for a safe entry if due patience is exercised. Are they perfect? No, but when measured against the oft failed norm of other public institutions, their dedication and attitude stands worthy of emulation!
