The work and expense to keep horses is not priceless, unfortunately. They see the vet, farriers, require medications and eat constantly! It is unusual to get a young, healthy, trained horse surrendered. They get the best care by knowledgeable, experienced horse lovers. The whole program is geared to teach young and old, it is organized and well planned. It is easy to volunteer! Volunteering has been the best! It can be hard dirty work but it feels so good and is better than any gym.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and took the time to recommend restaurants, coffee shops, museums, hiking spots, and live music based on my interests. Thanks to their recommendations, I discovered several places that ended up being highlights of my trip. One of my favorite parts of visiting was catching the Blue Plate Special, a free live music performance held every day from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and recorded live for WDVX, Knoxville's local radio station. It was really cool to discover an artist I wasn't familiar with and experience Knoxville's local music scene in such an intimate setting. The visitor center also has a gift shop with a great selection of Knoxville souvenirs, locally made products, and unique gifts. I also appreciated the comfortable couches and booths, making it a great place to sit, get some work done, or simply take a break while exploring downtown. Whether you're visiting for a weekend or considering a move to Knoxville, I'd highly recommend making this your first stop. Between the friendly staff, local recommendations, free daily live music, and welcoming atmosphere, it made my trip so much better.
