I did some homework on Dr. Martin's background, and while I was looking for someone more in the field of classic pain management, he seemed to have the appropriate skills, and was willing to see me on (short notice) with an open mind. At first glance, Dr. Martin is part of a very busy practice so I was worried about his not taking the time to listen but was pleasantly surprised there. He listened, digested my data, answered a salvo of a dozen or so questions I had for him and did not hold back details which is what I look for. Another interesting thing about him is how he augments his eyes and hands with a sonogram device, and he's a purist on that (he does his own sonograms). This was a big twist for me. My previous pain management specialist was more of a drive-by feel physician, but it seems Dr. Martin uses this tool as a very interesting safeguard and targeting system, again, all good. The other interesting thing is Dr. Martin's core skills, which seem to be heavily baked around kinetics (kinesics?). This added an interesting perspective in how he looks at the areas he treats not as static body parts and he heavily take into account how muscles move and pull on other things that can cause issues.

The Surg Center staff kept saying it had been sent to CVS although it had not; I had to spend an entire afternoon after my surgery pursuing the issue. HOWEVER, staff at Metro Orthopedics (MOST) were extremely helpful (even though the issue was not theirs; the mistake came from the Surg Center). Both the MOST front desk and the surgery coordinator Dorinda were very supportive. Dorinda had to spend a lot of time on the phone to get my issue resolved and finally made sure that CVS received the prescription. From this experience, and also from previous interactions, I give 5/5 starts to MOST staff.

I went to see Dr. Gazdag and he was wonderful. He was funny and an excellent professional. We took more X-rays, so if you see a light in Rockville, it is just me glowing at night. I am in a boot and a cane, but no surgery needed. Amen! The people who work with Dr. Gazdag and Ortho Bethesda were awesome. They were very nice and helpful. I got great care and I have respect for the office. And, thank you, Stacey for making sure I was taken care of.

TLDR- I went here with the impression the OT would get my healed fractured wrist back to working…read moreagain, but he did not and the professionalism and care seemed to exist for exactly one month of appointments- which doesn't seem like a timeline based on rehab/healing- but insurance or the bottom line. I could be wrong. But my wrist sure doesn't work, but I "graduated" in exactly a month. I've never had an injury like this before. I broke my wrist really badly. Or more specifically- I had a left distal radius fracture with associated distal ulna fracture, then ORIF surgery/ open reduction, internal fixation- so I have a plate in my wrist now. I'd already tried a physical therapy mill where you learn and do your own exercises independently, you even timed yourself- so Danny the OT here was a huge step up. He seemed like he genuinely cared about what he does and the patient's successful recovery. After the last experience I felt finally someone will help me get my hand and wrist back to working order. On our first appointment he scheduled us for the next month of appointments. And funny enough, I "graduated" on that last scheduled day. I had no idea it would be the last day until the end of the appointment. It was also the first time he had a student/intern or something shadow him- which I felt uncomfortable with. It is just a hand, but talking about your defects or the vulnerability of not being able to do very simple things- is not something I feel comfortable talking about in front of a person I never met. It felt very impersonal. And despite the joy they expressed at my "graduation"- from the OT, the intern, and the OT's assistant. They all congratulated me. Which felt confusing, because I can't open a medicine bottle. I can't clasp anything on my back. I can't really twist any cap. I walk my dog with a waist leash because I don't have the strength on dexterity in that hand to walk him anymore with my hands. But I graduated. I was told this as if it was cause for celebration but I just thought- no one's going to help me. I took the steps instead of the elevator as I left the office for privacy because I started crying. I cried walking down the stairwell. I felt just abandoned with my often painful weak wrist and severely limited ROM. I don't know how to fix my wrist on my own and no one seems to care enough to treat me until I have a working hand/wrist. He was obviously done assisting me but as I looked up certified hand therapists - the best ones are in his office. He was done assisting me, but why didn't he recommend his colleague? A CHT. So I can open medicine bottles, and honestly just clasp my bra in the back. Or really a hundred things that come up every day. I don't understand why he couldn't help me fix this. It seems so wrong to just not at least refer me to someone. Every metric that determines a successful wrist rehab is abominable for me. By the range of motion numbers, I desperately need OT or a certified hand specialist. I was still dropped without notice or a path to figuring out how to tie my shoes in one try. I felt just hopeless about it. Like he thought this was good enough. My trust and hope is near depleted. It's just a hand. I know. But it's a part of me. Every time I can't do something I used to be able to do it's like a reminder I'm not whole yet. And I wish I didn't have to fight for the most basic rehab care. I'll start again, when I can muster the emotional energy to at least act like I have additional reserve of trust. I don't know if this is what people have to fight through, but it's not right. Especially when you're at your most vulnerable. I feel bad for everyone just trying to recover, who is left with a defective piece of themselves and the confusing task of navigating a way towards just being whole again, or even just regaining the ability to clasp their own darn bra.

Anybody who has had significant back/spine issues can tell you there's no clear path out of the pit…read moreof despair that is constant pain and inability to live an active, full life. And there's a bit of luck involved -- finding the right doctor, selecting the right treatments or surgery, and with the latter hoping you're not going to be among the % of people whose surgery is unsuccessful. There are reviews on here from people who no doubt were on the wrong side of that, and it's awful. Maybe something went wrong, maybe they were among the tough cases that Dr. O'Brien takes on despite the risks involved. But my experience was different. Dr. O'Brien was the right surgeon, with the right surgery (lumbar disc replacement) that ended my several years of agony and dread of lifelong disability. I had a previous surgery with another doctor, which did not fix the problem. Disc replacement was an absolute godsend and Dr. O'Brien and his team performed mine flawlessly -- plus his office was able to get insurance to pay for it, which was not easy (and not available to everyone, sadly). ADR is a difficult surgery -- there aren't many doctors who perform it regularly, let alone consider it a strength/specialty. But Dr. O does. I conducted extensive research prior to my surgery and he's among the top 2-3 docs for ADR in the D.C. area. If you're a good candidate for ADR, don't hesitate -- it's a way better choice than a fusion. There's a Facebook group you can search for, where you can learn more from actual patients. Just choose your surgeon wisely.

I can only attest to my experience with the scheduler, biller and front desk reps...the customer…read moreservice was outstanding. In 12/19, I had a full hysterectomy procedure by Dr. Mackoul. It exceeded my expectations! He's called "Magic Hands" for a reason. Months prior to my surgery, I read (HysterSisters.com) other women's experiences concerning different hysterectomy procedures. Namely, the Divinci /robotic laporscopic procedure..the recovery is up to 6 weeks, you may have up to 6 incisions and some other organs (colon, bladder, nerve endings) could be nicked/damaged. That's when I did an extensive search for other procedures in my area. That's when I discovered Dr. Mackoul. This was my first surgery EVER, so besides pain, I wasn't sure what else to expect. Immediately after my surgery, I felt NO pain...meaning I didn't take any pain meds AT ALL (I left it at CVS). I had only two 5mm incisions (1 in the navel and 1 below the bikini line). I was up and walking the same day (as directed by the nurse)...on day two I was walking up to 1/4 mile..and I was up and running again within 1.5 weeks. Based on so many blogs, where women who had a hysterectomy, experienced pain, discomfort among other problems. So, I kept waiting for the "other shoe to drop"...because..again..this was my first surgery. Yet, here I am, 1 month later and nothing. I'm back to running daily and strength training. This Doctor was a game changer in my life. Dr. Mackoul does not use robotic surgery. However, the 1st doctor consult did and he was within my medical network. So, it would have been cheaper for me to use his services. Yet, I chose the procedure that was minimally invasive and had less recovery time. It worked for me! Ladies..PLEASE do your research. I'm truly overwhelmed by my experience because I've read so many negative remarks about hysterectomies. I did 2 cycling centuries last year, 2020, and I'm training for 2 triathlons and a Spartan for this year, 2021. I had the privilege recently to thank him. As Michael's wife, I have watched him deal with this hip pain for most of our 33 years of marriage…read more I've seen how much it affected the way he walked, what he could do, and just his everyday life. More than anything, I wanted him to finally have a real chance to get out of pain. Traveling from California to Maryland for surgery was a big decision. Michael has been an attorney in San Diego for decades and knows many of the top surgeons here, so going across the country was not something we took lightly. The doctors we saw here were talking about a much bigger open surgery. My husband, being my husband, had an enormous list of questions. A lot of the answers were already available in the information Dr. Christoforetti had put together, and his physician's assistant, Brian, answered many of the others. When we met with Dr. Christoforetti, he carefully went through everything with us and never made us feel rushed, even with Michael's never-ending list. One of the things that made me feel much better was understanding that doing the surgery through small openings did not mean he could see less. With the camera, he could actually get a very detailed view of what was going on and repair what he found without putting Michael through the much larger open surgery that had been discussed. Over the years, Michael tried just about every type of treatment available -- injections, physical therapy, and other non-surgical treatments -- without lasting relief. It meant so much to me that Dr. Christoforetti was finally trying to fix the actual problem instead of just treating the pain again. As a wife, there is a different kind of trust involved. Michael had to trust the surgeon operating on him. I had to trust the person I was handing my husband over to. Dr. Christoforetti made that easy. I felt that he truly cared about Michael and treated him the way you would want someone to treat a member of your own family. His whole team was wonderful to us. Being so far from home made both of us nervous, and having a direct number to Brian, his physician's assistant, gave us a lot of comfort. As strange as it may sound, I couldn't help but to feel like I am guilty of wasting everyone's time there, and I felt rushed and flushed out of there quickly. Yes, I love physicians who are on time and the office so efficient that I waltz out of there happy and ready to get on with the rest of my day.
