A favorite museum of mine. Always bringing in exciting new exhibits with lots of color, historic (often ancient!) artifacts from across Asia. I've been here a few times already and seen a gunpowder exhibit, a Bali/Indonesia exhibit, a Japanese exhibit, and now an exhibit focused on mythical creatures, and all of them have been expertly curated, beautiful, and give something to art fans and history fans alike. I particularly like that they often offer free entry and host great events, like the lunar new year. Worth the trip no matter where you are in LA. Looking forward to the next exhibit!

I came to see the Cai Guo-Qiang exhibit on a Sunday because parking is free and entrance into the museum was free and I was really interested in his work since his medium is the use of fireworks and gunpowder. Who doesn't love fireworks and gunpowder. He also recently started doing some experiments with AI, which I think is really interesting since I feel that most artist are against the AI trend. I also learned so much about him as an artist, I could probably spoil it by talking so much about everything that he does, but I don't want to do that because there's nothing Better than experiencing it for yourself and I don't wanna ruin it. One of the volunteers or workers recommended me spending some time to watch the video and I was really impressed and glad I took his advice. There's so much of his work that can be seen and experience through video and the stories that that can be told only through video. Did you know that there is a Netflix documentary called sky ladder that highlighted his work with fireworks? Also, as an artist, he spent time in New York, New Jersey, and Japan?

This is a very small museum. I would suggest to research what current exhibition is being featured as when we went today, 90% of the museum was dedicated to a specific artist. I overall enjoyed the exhibit, but it wasn't particularly interesting for my 7 and 9 year olds. We were in and out within an hour. They do have a kid friendly/interactive room that was kind of fun, but also small. Pros: free parking, kids (under 18) free, very clean restrooms. Cons: very small and $20 per adult for admission.

The USC Pacific Asian Museum has art collections from Asia and the Pacific Islands. Pro Tip: 2nd Sunday FREE!! I LOVE FREE!! In addition the 2nd Sundays will have activities featuring art making, live presentation of dance and music, and crafts and accessories. They have a small parking lot that was completely packed, but luckily my boyfriend is familiar with the area and he was able to seize street parking within walking distance of the museum. We started off walking around their permanent exhibits: Ceramic Galleries, Crossroads: Exploring the Silk Road, Art of East Asia, Dr. William W. M. Lo Chinese Art Gallery, Art of the Himalayas, Art of South and Southeast Asia, Art of Pacific Islands. There was this one photograph of a Buddha ice sculpture in ice that spoke to me. The melting of he ice back into the river was conceptually like reincarnation. From nothing to something then back into nothing, water into ice, then back into water. So deep! It also happened to be the very last day of the "Imprinting in Time - Chinese Printmaking at the Beginning of a New Era" exhibit. It was neat to see the printmaking of modern Chinese art and the not so low key propaganda behind some of these. Fascinatinggggggg... The museum is a quick visit. For museum lovers who linger, we only spent about an hour and a half here since there wasn't too much to look at compared to other museums. Nevertheless still a fun visit. Hopefully they can get some generous donors and more art pieces for their collection in the future.

ALL MONTH OF MAY IS FREE ADMISSION due to AAPI month and a very generous donor! We have been wanting to check out this place for awhile! It is a great museum with lots of interesting and educational art!! The courtyard itself is very artsy and representative. Fun for taking pics as well :0) Their bathrooms are really clean too! The employees are very friendly (including the security guard who told us to have a good day)!! They have a cute gift shop too with adorable & beautiful pictures on socks, adorable asian onesies for babies, and all sorts of other cool stuff! It was a great experience and I will definitely recommend to many people and return!

    And the kiddos^.^

I wished this museum was bigger! It's great for young children they had an area where kids can play music and use ancient calligraphy (sort of). I love that there is a museum dedicated to Asian culture...hopefully it'll expand more in the future! Def recommend if you're interested in Asian art!

The beautiful inside court gives a charming and serene environment, and the permanent gallery offers a great but brief glimpse into the many cultures from Pacific Asia. Having its own parking spot so close is already a great sign every visit will be convenient, but frequent free Sundays make this the perfect place to swing by and catch the amazing work from the temporary exhibitions. This museum features Asian Americans doing their best expressive work from film to painting to crafts, and I think the recent years with the pandemic have given it more time to launch new and engaging art exhibits that feature a diverse group of artists. I've been to most museums and galleries in the LA area, but I can't help but keep coming back for more AAPI artwork. Often I find myself surprised by art installations that come and go!

Cute courtyard, but museum not worth it

The Museum and gardens where beautiful and inspiring!

To be perfectly honest, if you were to ask me how to describe/explain what The Huntington has to…read moreoffer, I wouldn't even know where to start - quite literally. When I've told friends and family about this place, I've almost always been at a loss for words because there is just so much to detail. And yet, if/when they ask me if it's worth checking out, the answer comes out quick, clean, and clear - absolutely! Sitting on what is/was the Huntington family's estate, this place is very impressive. Within their expansive, palatial grounds, there's a library, multiple art galleries and museums, several botanical gardens, a conservatory, a research center, an educational center, a Japanese heritage house (Shoya House), a tea room, a Chinese restaurant, a milk tea shop, numerous smaller gardens, and so much more. What's more, each of those museums, galleries, and gardens are distinctly different from each other - galleries and exhibits featuring American, British/European, and Asian artwork, a Japanese garden, a Chinese garden, a desert garden, a rose garden, a bonsai garden, a California garden...and the list goes on. Despite having spent the better part of a day walking around and exploring the grounds, I'm pretty sure we only managed to get through roughly half of what there is to see here. Of the ones we did make it through, my favorites were the Chinese and Japanese gardens, as they felt the most tranquil and offered the most shade of all of the gardens we saw. Not to mention the fact that we ended up spending a lot of time here before and after stopping in for lunch at the Jade Court Cafe in the Chinese garden. Among the galleries, I also enjoyed walking through the Huntington's Art Gallery, which seemed to hold most of the oldest American and European pieces, as well as historical info about the Huntingtons themselves. Given how much there is to see here, The Huntington is worth the price of admission, even if it does appear to be a little hefty ($34 for adults, with discounted rates available for seniors, students, military, and kids). They do offer free admission on the first Thursday of each month as well, but you'll need to claim tickets in advance starting the Thursday before. Also, if you're short on time, the visitor center has a list of highlights and suggested itineraries, but you'll inevitably miss out on a lot to see. Whenever you do come here, though, even if it's just to go to their tea room, make sure to bring sunscreen and wear some comfortable shoes, as you'll end up doing plenty of walking outdoors. They do have a tram that circles loops around the grounds, but you'll still have to walk from the stop to wherever you want to go. Just make sure to stop and smell the many flowers along the way!

It was really fun playing tourist so close to home - a true hidden gem, I never knew this museum was here even having lived here all these years lol! We did the Fényes Mansion tour which includes admission to the main museum and is the best way to experience the museum imo. The main museum is currently running an exhibit featuring films made around Pasadena and it was so fun to explore and see things like the BTTF hoverboard and Eddie Murphy's outfit in Beverly Hills Cop, and so many more interesting items and info tidbits. But it's small so it's best to pair it with the mansion tour - which is a fascinating glimpse into the area's past and the prominent family that owned the mansion. It even holds the original office of the first Finnish consul, Y.A. Paloheimo, still intact as it was all those years ago, complete with the consul emblem and his photo with Eleanor Roosevelt. The mansion is one of two remaining fully intact mansions on what used to be "Millionaire's Row" - the other is the Gamble House which is a craftsman - but Fényes Mansion is over the top grandeur! There used to be 52 mansions and these are all that's left :-o And here's a fun little fact we learned - did you know Tiffany & Co made elaborately carved wooden chairs?? You can see them in the dining room of the mansion and they're absolutely beautiful! We learned SO many interesting bits of history about Pasadena and the surrounding area - I won't share it all here - you gotta take the tour - it's totally worth it! But I will leave you with one other fun fact I learned that answered a burning question I had every time I would drive the 210 - this is for the locals - do you know how Michillinda Ave got its name? It came from some of the earlier settlers of the area in the 1870s: Michigan + Illinois + Indiana = Michillinda!! The tour is a great experience for local history and I highly recommend it - they're infrequent so if you can get in on a tour, DO IT!! They're around $20 and you can get them in advance via Eventbrite which I recommend bc they sell out (especially on weekends). You can also buy them onsite but the tours are likely to be full. The museum admission is included and they have bathrooms and a small private parking lot available. Shout out to our awesome tour guides Andrea & Paul - tysm for a great afternoon!!

I started taking my baby when she was eight months old and I found out about their baby room, which is an amazing developmentally appropriate spot for babies to grow. They have carpet which is essential for babies learning to crawl. If you have a 0-12 month old DO not skip out on this! It's the absolute best part of KS IMO. Now that my child is almost 2. She loves the whole place... Her favorite is the stream... Make sure you bring an extra set of clothes and a towel because your kids will get wet! It's great that they change up their theme so often and that they bring in new items to play with all the time... We particularly love the clay table for the spring and I love the sensory bins on toddler Tuesday. Toddler Tuesday is absolutely wonderful. People always ask how it's different.- well, they set up the art room for toddlers so instead of having crafts where you may have to use scissors don't have something similar like painting ice... They also have sensory bins set up for them as well as some fun activities like sidewalk chalk. There are less older kids there which makes the toddlers have more freedom to roam about.

I can almost guarantee the company makes many of the products you buy all the time. The Gamble House in Pasadena is an architectural (Craftsman) gem. If you want to go inside, you need to book a guided tour. Book your tour well in advance or you will likely get shut out. We saw it happen. There are multiple tour choices but the basic option is a one hour docent-led one. I highly recommend it. The docents are passionate about this property and it shows. By the way, if you don't want to spring for a tour (or you get shut out), you can still walk around the porch and/or the grounds for free. You don't have to be an architect or a design junkie to appreciate the tour. If you like style, or even history, you will enjoy the experience. (Or maybe you are a "Back to the Future" fan; yes, the exterior was shown in the movie.) And it is only a one hour tour, after all. The exterior is gorgeous but the interior is beautiful, too. The lighting, furniture, materials, and just the colors are lovely. For a home that was built about 115 years ago, it is in remarkable condition. It is well worth visiting.

I've done DTLA Artwalk plenty.. But Pasadena Art Night? I'm ashamed to say this was my first year!…read moreArt is universal and what's so beautiful about that is how differently it's expressed. Through stages, spaces and mediums. Pasadena had a great line up for all the art they had to showcase. They delivered it much better than some of the artwalks I've been to in the past. How so? Well, let me tell you: Pasadena Art Night is much less flashy, much more community, and much more organized. It's definitely a night for the family as much as it can be for a date. Because this Art Night is much more community friendly and interactive, there's much more heart coming from the community itself either as the showstoppers or the audience! With a huge line-up of art exhibits, my friend, her son and I managed to hit up four destinations to get our fill of the spectacular evening in store for us. Our first stop was none other than, Kidspace Children's Museum! They had the night lighting up with all the kids' best moves whether it was dancing, jump roping or hula hooping and making sure everything from rope to hoops to even bubbles were lit up! It was practically a mini rave for tiny humans and my friend's kid had a blast. Music was also well selected. From there we took one of the many trams reserved specifically for Art Night goers! All trams were labeled based on destination which made the night all that more accessible to every and all interested! We made it over to the park right by city hall. The park was hosted by a nonprofit org called Day One who delivered an Alice and Wonderland "Down the Rabbit Hole" theme! Tea was being served with tea pots and cups hanging from trees, chalk art welcoming you in, a book tunnel leading you right to the stage of poets and story tellers to the left and luminescent trees with happiness keys being hung right along the branches to your right. The keys were gorgeous with blank tags waiting to be written on. After getting lost down the rabbit hole, we fell upon city hall which was more of a quick pit stop. Only leading us to our final destination, Paseo! Paseo's courtyard was being hosted by MUSE/IQUE. They were showcasing a free basic dance class by the hour or so! They had displayed step by step instructions on the ground of different dances. We made it just in time to learn one of their routines! After being taught, they allowed the participants to find a partner & dance the night away. We had finally made it to the end of our little friend's energy and decided to end the night with some happy feet! We got right back on the tram hassle free. City Hall was the only destination that had every bus for every direction come into! As we ended a well organized and run Art Night in Pasadena, my friend and I promised to attend the next one to come as her little one sang us Wheels on the Bus all the way back to kidspace where our cars were safely parked. Will I do this again? Ooh you betcha. Hope you check it out too, yelpheads
