The cost was much higher after the movers loaded our furnishings into the truck and told me the volume was higher than originally quoted and included two months of storage. However, when I advised them weeks in advance of the closing of our new home it seemed they had to outsource the carrier. We were distressed to find our Sleep Number mattress was strapped to the outside of the tailgate and subject to rain and mud which infiltrated the plastic sheeting they covered it with resulting in a large stain. As such its easily to get the two mixed which I think plays as an advantage for this deceptive company. Secondly, this company (USA Van Lines) is a BROKER company and as such their priority is based on profit and not for customer satisfaction or fair pricing. You will be overcharged; you will get questionable and subpar service and you will not have a pleasant experience. So, my quick review is AVOID at all costs, but should you decide to go with them here are a few suggestions. One, plan early and have a backup plan, you will need it. After these idiots finally delivered my furniture DAMAGED the day before Thanksgiving, I sent them an e-mail dated 11/30/19 with the pictures of my leather couch that they destroyed - which cost me $6K. They also failed to deliver my mattress, and received a phone later that day that they would be delivering it. That was the last I heard from them. I just sent them an e-mail a few minutes ago, informing them that sleeping without a mattress the last 3 months has damaged my health with a bad back. Requested a move of about 1300 miles for roughly 500 cubic feet of household items. USA VL said they could make the move 3 weeks later. We agreed and supplied our credit card number. A few hours later, a different mover returned our call and bid several hundred dollars less than USA VL. So we phoned USA VL to cancel our move less than 24 hours after agreeing. The fine print on their contract says that any cancellation within 48 hours allows them to keep 20% of the $700 we had already paid them as a "deposit". Cancelling more that 48 hours after signing allows them to keep the entire deposit. It has been 2 weeks since we cancelled our move with USA VL and they have returned no money to our credit card. I suggest you avoid USA VL, they are not trustworthy. read more

My stuff got picked up on Nov 23, 2018 by this company and was told and confirmed that It will be in CA on Nov 30. We received out stuff after a month exactly. Been living without it since almost a month. Zero Stars in Delivery and Customer Service! Please read the contract carefully. The contract says they have 21 business days than commitment time to deliver the stuff which wasn't been conveyed first hand and they never delivered even within the contract period. Now I am trying to reach them and their customer care is also one of the worst. No ones picks up the call and if mistakenly some one does, they transfer you to number which no one picks up. I've never been more disgusted in my entire life. I contracted an out of state move April 30 for a June 30/July 1 move. Got an alleged great price for 2 months early and gave a $400 deposit on a $1700 move. Waited for days for confirmation on June 28 and 29, no call. I keep calling and emailing. Finally a call and the company that's coming. Then try to call the mover directly and the phone was disconnected! Closing is the next day. Forced to rent Uhaul, cancel flight and drive 1000 miles myself. Then have to put the deposit in dispute with cc. Stay far away. My guess (opinion) is my great price, no one wanted to take the job and they didn't care. Not to mention pack a truck and be out for closing at 10am the next day. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service and lies that this company gives to customers. I had a move from NYC to Boston, so I called over a dozen companies for quotes. Every company told me that they could not give exact pickup dates/times or drop off dates and that it would be a date range. I have a demanding job that requires me to travel out of state on a daily basis, so I can't just be home to wait for pickup and delivery. When I called A1A I was pleased to hear that they CAN guarantee pickup on the date I needed and also deliver on the date I needed. The ONLY reason I booked with them was because they said this. And they confirmed that it would be on the days I requested several times because this was my biggest concern when picking a mover and I would not give my credit card until they confirmed this. I got a call around 3PM the day before pickup and was told that they would not make it the next day. Luckily I was able to move things around to be there two days later for pickup, but I wasted a vacation day for the previously agreed upon pickup date. The pickup itself was fine (I didn't have much stuff), but then I was told that the stairs are EXTRA even though when I booked the move I told them that there were three flights of stairs. They consider a flight to only be 8 steps, so I was hit with almost $400 extra just for stairs. The worst part comes when I moved to Boston only to find that none of my belongings would be delivered on the date we had agreed and they couldn't tell me when they would until the day before. This is EXACTLY why I didn't book other companies and this company lied to get me to book with them just to do the exact thing I didn't want. I would have gone with one of the cheaper companies if I knew this company was liars. Their response "did you read what you signed?" To be honest, they had me sign dozens of pages with fine print when they picked the stuff up and I verbally confirmed that what I was signing said that delivery was August 1st and that I was all paid up. They confirmed that, but neglected to mention that I actually signed saying delivery would be within 21 days of August 1st. I did get my belongings, but had to pay someone to be home to let them in because I was working out of state. I understand the policies, but lying is the worst business model ever. Zero Stars!!! The general business practices of never returning phone calls is a non-starter. With a quoted list of 82 items and only 71 on the truck, my estimate went from 1,428 to 3,000, because items are bulky/ un-stack-able. When trying to get a hold of anyone at the office for 7 days my phone calls where left unanswered, messages where never returned, and when i did get a hold of someone they would say someone would call back and never did. Also, I didn't receive a call on the day of drop off till an hour before, when I was assured that I would get a call the day before. I witnessed them standing on my furniture to un-stack it in the truck, and the general condition of my furniture was not in good shape after delivery. My TV was protected, covered with a lot of cushions and in a box that I bought at home depot as Alicia recommend me to do, no matter what I did the TV arrived broken with a big big crash in the screen, a big big hit in the screen, I´m still paying the TV!!! and I can not use it because the crew was so rude with it. Well a that moment I was saying "well it is only the TV", but when we started unpacking we discovered a lot of boxes with the FRAGILE text outside... everything was broken inside these boxes, 10 cups, 15 glasses, 10 wine glasses, even one of my king bed leg was broken. Worst move ever! I've moved within the US and internationally over 15 times and this was the absolute worst move ever! I estimated my cubic square feet and sent to to them for quote. They were the lowest quote by far so I went with them. I had NOT noticed that they took my estimate and only used one third of my estimated cubed feet in the quote they gave me. The driver who came to pick up the stuff was very upset as he wasn't planning on the large amount of stuff (my estimate was almost dead on.) The price ended up being quadruple the price which they didn't tell us until the truck was already loaded. In hindsight we should have had them unload it then and there. The communication on eta of my goods was abysmal. It arrived 4 weeks after estimated date and when it finally showed (5 hours later than driver had said) only the driver was there to unload even through my contract stated 2 to 3 people. Rather than send my stuff away, I helped the driver unload. He actually did a great job for only being one person, but it took a very long time and it only worked because I had sold my heavy furniture before moving. But this company has been a nightmare to work with, and i think people ought to know what they'll get into before signing a contract with this unprofessional, incompetent and rude movers. If I can give them a negative star, I would. The sale guy Ian O'Reilly is as helpful as a dung beetle. He is very prompt and helpful when he is trying to con you into signing..once you agreed and signed a contract, he disappears like a bubble. He doesn't return your calls, texts or emails, as if he doesn't exist...Beware of this guy. Since we live in a high riser, we were scheduled to load our stuff from 9am-1pm and on top of that we have to pay $140.00 to the condo for security fee. I've communicated the details (i.e.where to park, go to the front desk to let the condo know they've arrived, etc) to the sales guy Ian so the movers are aware. Ian reassured me not to worry bcoz he will take care of it. Moving day came, July 12 the movers did not show up until 11:30am instead of 9am and it took them 8hrs to get the job done. They showed up not knowing we live in a high rise condo, so they were unaware of where to park, who to talk to, etc. It was a disaster. Tried calling Ian, and couldn't get through to him, shocking. Not only did they show up 2 hrs late, clueless, but there was only 2 movers instead of 3 as promised that's why it looked them longer. The whole experience with this movers and the company have impacted me negatively and left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE! They charged us more than what was discussed. We requested our furnitures to be delivered from Miami to California for July 26, but it wasn't delivered until Aug 8 at 7pm until midnight! Everytime I call to f/u, the supervisor, Steven always have an excuse that they are still looking for a driver to deliver our stuff because we live in a secluded area in California. The sale guy Ian, knew exactly where to deliver our belongings and we made him aware multiple times that we will be moving in the middle of nowhere, and he said it won't be a problem and it will get delivered on the date as discussed. But now that they have our furnitures hostage who knows where and money, they tell us that they can't deliver it because of the location. On to top with all this situation, some of our belongings were damaged, tv media stand completely ripped off the base, head board bracket was bent, clay pot was cracked and broken, glass lamp shattered during packing and missing TV stand/feet, all of this items were packed by the movers... I moved from Boston to Florida. Great price and very good service. I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger on using them because their price was very low compared with others I got. I'm glad I did. I've lived in 6 states and this was my eighth move. No moving company is perfect so I'm not going to write tedious reviews about little miscommunications. Talked with the Vice President Steve after his contracted Paul had his crew dump my personal belongs and furniture on the side of the curb. Steve requested photos. And photos were provided, My new fifty-five inch Smart flat screen laid out of the box in the grass. With the three tier tv stand pieces missing. I told Steve I would be happy to resolve this. I sent him photos as it was taking being done at the Public Storage with the employees watching. Public Storage moved me to a ten x ten I already paid for a five by five which was more than I needed. Steve said he was going to call Public Storage employees. He never did. Driver Paul said to me, in front of the Public Storage employees, my furniture and personal belongs were not worth his time. Steve never called. Paul also stated as one of his workers dropped a hand carved chest my father made and box with Waterford Crystal, "If it did not get broken on the road probably is now" Once again in front of the Public Storage employees and Mail person. Moving my sister with CPTSD and nephew with Autism and other learning disabilities from Ohio to Texas. Was told it would take 7 to 10 days and we are on day 30 with no answers. Every time I call dispatch I get a different answer as to why my sisters things aren't here and even where her things are. Probably THE worst experience ever! I worked with Ian Oreilly as my sales person. He was great until things started to go wrong and then he basically did not respond to my NUMEROUS texts, calls and emails. We had a contract for a move to Atlanta GA .Pick up was in Boston and NY. I was never told that our furniture would be on an 18 wheeler CRAMMED in with many other orders. We were moving 1 bedroom, chairs, household items and 5 boxes of clothing. Contractual pick up dates were 7/29 or 7/30. The 2nd pick up did not happen until 12:15 am on the 31st, so an 18 wheeler arrived in a residential neighborhood after midnight! My husband lost 2 days work waiting for the truck that was literally promised to us all day on the 29th and 30th. The dispatch people were rude to say the least. The movers showed up wearing slippers and smoking cigarettes. They spoke very little English and were rude. Upon leaving the neighborhood at 12:30am they gunned the gas because they were angry that my husband made them put their cigarettes out before loading our items. Neither pick up was made in the time frames given. As of 12:01 on the 31st A1A was in breach of our contract. Delivery in Atlanta was even worse. The 18 wheeler pulled up with the driver and mover who spoke so disrespectfully to me that my son had to step in. They REFUSED to carry our furniture up the ONE flight of stairs that contractually they were bound to do. The driver then refused to reassemble the one bed that they disassembled, which was also in my contract to be done. I had to show him the contract in order for it to be done. They tossed many of our items off the truck because they were angry. They broke a leg of one of the arm chairs. The mover took a picture of it admitting he broke it because I saw him toss it!! I tried calling Ian many times during this encounter and no reply. Again they arrived after the time frame given. They were extremely disrespectful and watched as a 58 year old woman carried furniture up a flight of stairs that I paid to have moved. I will be reporting this company to the BBB that has your rating on your website as A- ???? What a joke, F- is too good for this company. I will also be contacting the VP of this company who I have already connected with on LinkedIn. From start to finish it was the ABSOLUTE worst customer service ever. My advice to anyone about your company is " If you can find any other moving company i highly recommend you do." First the men who came and packed my things on and off the truck were great! No issues there. My issue came with the price i was quoted and what i had to pay in the end. I completely filled out the inventory with everything that was to be placed on the truck and was given a quote of $1200. When the gentleman placed everything on the truck i was then told that they underestimated the cost and it would cost me an additional $500 for my items. I talked to one of the owners named Steve whom was RUDE AND CONDESCENDING!!!! I was also told that they would look over the inventory and get back to me on why THEY underestimated the room i needed on the truck and guess what i have heard from NO ONE!!! My second issue is trying to locate your items once they are in route is IMPOSSIBLE AND INEFFICIENT!! They give you a number to "dispatch" no one ANSWERED EVER!! I called several times a day as well as emailed with no reply!!! This was the worst moving experience EVER and im a traveling nurse so i have had to relocate or move plenty of times. If I could give them a negative review, I would. The hassle that these people put you through, WILL give you a headache. First off, they lie. They make promises about delivery dates that they KNOW they can't keep. I hired them for my move from FL to NY back in October for a move in November. They arranged my delivery date and the guys came late. They give you a bogus dispatch e-mail that NO ONE answers to. They contact you whenever they feel like it. My delivery was scheduled for early in the morning and after waiting for hours, they contact me and tell me that they made a mistake and that they went to pick someone else's move before mine in a different state. So they changed my delivery timeframe. They loaded my things up in the truck and of course, charged me more money because it took up more space than they thought. I was okay with that because I expected that. Then, my delivery date arrives and I dont hear anything from anyone. I call and call and not one single person answers or calls me back. Finally, they tell me that the "expected delivery" doesn't mean that thats when I'll get my things. They had my things in their truck and I'd get it within a few days. Those few days pass and again, playing cat and mouse for someone to give me answers. They call me back days later with another estimated delivery date. They did this several times. Finally, my actual delivery date comes and the timeframe I was given, the delivery guys didn't show up for... I left work early for this and the guys show up at about 10:30 pm. The guy shows up and says that they need to charge me more money because of the steps and blah blah. I get frustrated and tell him that I'm not giving him any more money because supposedly, on my contract, everything was accounted for. Finally, I give in and ask him how much extra it would be since I wanted to get this over with... he gets in his truck and LEAVES with my things. I had been sleeping in an empty apartment with my toddler and the asshole just left with my belongings. He didn't answer the phone or text messages. The next day, I call the company and Stephanie answers with the most disgusting attitude in the world telling me that if I wanted my things, I'd have to pay over $1000 for the re-delivery and the steps and the extra walkway. And that I had to wire them the funds before they could reschedule me. So I considered it since I wanted to get rid of these people and then she says "but don't think that you're getting your things redelivered soon. We have to wait until we have a delivery going your way in order to come. We don't just send our guys out for one delivery." If you are doing a state to state move, I recommend that you DO NOT use this company. No one takes accountability for what they tell you. You never speak to the same people twice. The move was one of the worst experiences of my life. The two guys who picked up my furniture and boxes were great and amazing! The two men who delivered my furniture and boxes were rude, aggressive, mean, nasty, sloppy, rough, and horrible. They used foul language, said they were in a rush to get to the next job, did not care about my things, and damaged everything! They damaged almost every piece of my furniture, were rough with my boxes and practically threw them down inside my home upside down which caused many dishes and glasses to break. They dropped each piece of furniture on the ground several times causing dents, scratches and buckling in all the furniture reducing it to garbage! They ruined everything. ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever received from any business. I would give ZERO stars if I could. I booked A1A for a move across country from Virginia to California. I gave them a $440.00 deposit, and was told they would send an email with a link for me to electronically sign for the deposit. Alicia sent me the wrong email, and I had to call for her to send the right one. I finally received it (I wasn't able to to sign it until after business hours because I was working-- and Alicia knew I was working and said she would "text me" to let me know when they sent the correct email and what time I should be expecting a truck the next morning.) I called bright and early in the morning because it was a little unsettling that I had already paid almost $450.00 and they weren't communicating with me. When I finally got in touch with Alicia, she put Steffany on the phone, and Steffany informed me that they CANCELLED MY TRUCK ON THE DAY OF THE MOVE because they didn't receive a confirmation.. the $440.00 deposit wasn't enough confirmation?!? I booked another moving company, and tried to contact them about refunding my deposit; yet clearly they aren't good with communication (since every time I got any information I had to call THEM.) I got no response to phone calls, voicemails, emails, or text messages I sent regarding my refund. (When they responded to my review on Facebook he kept telling me that they tried to contact me-- which was 100 percent false; since I have all contact records.) I finally called my bank and they took care of it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm starting to wonder if this is even a real moving company. I know there are a lot of negative reviews for this company, and I should say I am writing this review just after they've picked my things up and before theyve dropped them off at my new place. I will definitely update my review once that happens. What I can say is, they were great with communication the whole time, answered all the questions I had, and on the day of pickup were even on the earlier side of their time window!!! Before their arrival I had wrapped my furniture all up in blankets and bubble wrap, when they came they actually added more padding to make sure things make it to my destination safely. They were QUICK and I mean, got things out of my place in an hour!!!! They showed me the truck after it was all packed up, very well stacked and everything looked to really be stuck in its place. I'm very happy to have gone with this company so far.
