Local newspapers are hard to find. Even harder to find is one that hasn't sold out to developers…read moreand political power in the town. The Independent is a good local paper that posts honest reviews, and openly allows debate from all sides of issues. I do not always agree with the editor, but when she states her opinion, she states it AS HER OPINION. So editorial honesty is present. When our City Council sold out to a developer to pack the downtown and ruin its parking and atmosphere, she stated so. And she also printed opposition to her opinion. That is fair journalism. The Independent and Carmel's PineCone are two papers everybody should read. You get a small town approach from people who care. We may have lost control of the two local papers we had, as they are now controlled by outsiders, but we have the Independent. Take a free subscription, you won't regret it.

I very much enjoy this paper, largely for the invaluable listing of all kinds of local events. It's…read morehard to find things like what's playing in all the small local theatres otherwise. One quirky but nifty aspect of a local newspaper in a town with a huge physics lab is that there are always interesting articles about the latest LNLL or Sandia news, with a pretty good description of the science behind it. The Independent magazine which is monthly I think is also very informative about local activities. And it's always cool to see your kid's name in print with the complete little league coverage!

I have read the reviews about poor delivery of the Newspaper…read more I would like to talk about the Oakland Tribune which BANG tries to pass off as the Argus, Fremonts Newspaper. This is a fraud, if you look at the Oakland Tribune, they just change the mast to read Argus. There is very little news about Fremont, it is all about Oakland. The BANG Newspaper group knows this and does not give a shit about Fremont. I have quite the Oakland Tribune Shopper Called the Argus.... Bangnews group has no Integrity, just greed.

If I'd read these reviews before placing my order, I would've saved myself needless aggravation. I,…read moretoo, fell for the poor student scam and signed up for a 6 week, Sunday only option. Piss poor delivery ever since. If I'm lucky, my neighbor waaaaaayyy down the hall gets the paper and I have to trek on down there to get it. Other times, the paper never shows up. Every once in a while though, I am pleasantly surprised to open my door and see the paper on the mat. Ergo, the one star. Calling to claim non-delivery only gets you a credit for another Sunday. At this rate, I'll be getting the Sunday paper for the rest of the year. Luckily, I paid in full for the 6 weeks so when all those credits are finally used up, I won't have to worry about getting charged again. All I wanted was the Sunday paper delivered to my door--a paper telling me what's going on locally. Since that's not possible, I'll hoof it down to the local gas station and pick up the SF Chronicle.
