Great source of information also for peripherals, software, hardware, tech talk forums and of course many times you will get a free cd with your magazine that is loaded with all kinds of stuff.

I dropped by the office of the Palo Alto Weekly to pick up a copy of the Almanac. I had placed a…read morequarter page advertisement, and wanted to see how it came out in the published newspaper. I grabbed a copy from the rack just inside of the door and proceeded to make my exit. My complaint is mostly with the receptionist who demanded that I immediately pay her fifty cents. That rubbed me the wrong way. $650 for an ad and now she wants fifty cents. Sure, charge it to my debit card. Ridiculous! I got a little heated and told her that I just wanted to see my ad. The whole experience made me feel like an unwanted customer, a nuisance, and a newspaper thief. To the Embarcadero Publishing Company, why is your newspaper free on the streets, but if I want to pick one up from your offices, I get fined? Find a receptionist with less attitude!

I saw this free paper, The City Star and gave it a read through…read more Not bad, I thought - and I like their color scheme as it matches my company. *Very seldom used light bulb* I called Benjamin Buggs from the info listed in the paper to see about getting my business an advertising hole. He was very helpful and quick to adjust his conversation with the typical bar, clothing retailer or whatever to understand the needs specific to a 24 hour locksmith service. He gave me a very thorough and very reasonable price list and we hammered out a size and daily run deal. He asked me a few questions and he said that he'd have his graphic arts department look at my web site for design cues and come up with a proposed piece. What they gave me was so near perfect that I only had to make two minor adjustments. For those that don't know - that's incredible. They get it. They very efficiently put all the information that I wanted listed as well as a fairly good print of my bird logo for a great price. All the while, Benjamin was brainstorming and coming up with quality ways to maximize exposure and minimize cost. If you're a business looking to advertise for a good rate - try the Examiner and Daily Star. I could not possibly be happier with the outcome.

For myself personally, I have been writing with them for the past 2 years on a range of topics from Sports, Politics, movies, and concert. As a current volunteer and prospective and future UCSF student, I read this paper fairly often. The…read morearticles are always current, insightful and entertaining. There is always a funny article and then the very informative ones. Most articles are written by students from the college of pharmacy so if you're a prospective pharmacy student, you'll enjoy this paper even more. The paper gets minus one star for having +1 page of ads when the entire paper is usually only 6-8 pages front/back. Overall, an enjoyable read during your free time.

What makes this mag unique is the real world movement they are portraying through cool as hell narration and photos from contributors all over the world. Planet is broken up into hyper-segmented parts like Satellite(worldwide cultural surveillance), Greenspace, Voices (pivotal peeps in the one world vision), Interzone(talk on places like tijuana, prague, barcelona, afghanistan and other spots that rock in cultural convergence) but holds together well as a whole. This was my source on discovering incredible artists like bebel giberto, seu jorge, lady sovereign, and m.i.a. Also the ads don't overrun the pages and actually have cool brands like medium, penguin, hengst, and pfflyers. If you are stuck on the whole US tunnel-vision way of seeing things and want to expand, this is a good start on learning about transglobal-ism.

Well,…read moreI have to say, Yelp might not necessarily be her biggest fan base, because we are not all about self-love, creativity, and spirituality...those are just a few words I would use to describe some of SARK's topics covered in her books and workshops. SARK stands for Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy. Camp Sark is, I guess, her media/empire/company. She publishes with one of Simon and Schuster's branch of publishing, Fireside. You would undoubtedly recognize her hand lettered posters, cards and books, with titles like "Eating Mangoes Naked" and "Wild, Succulent Women". I eat this stuff up. I'm often full of self loathing/doubt/fear and whenever I feel fearful about my desires or feel anxious about money, my job, my ideas, or relationships, SARK has some good advice to kick down. She doesn't take herself too seriously and is not self righteous, she does not claim to be some higher, enlightened being. OK, since I don't know about the business aspect of her whole deal, other than that I have benefited greatly from reading her, I'll just say that SARK, love her or hate her, is a San Francisco icon. She's wonderful and I send her many thanks and lots of LOVE! for her work.
