I bought a couple cheaper ones last year to make sure I would enjoy wearing them and after deciding I like to wear kilts I decided to order one to my proper sizing. This thing looks and feels great. The material feels very durable and the buckles are much more heavy duty than the ones on the cheaper kilts. It was well worth the money. I had a kilt made in Scotland and they made some very large promises of which they sadly failed to deliver on any of them other than delivering the kilt. In stark contrast USA Kilts has exceeded my expectations with every order I have put in with them and their shipping is somehow both cheap, fast AND accurate. I had a 5 yard kilt made in my family tartan in a different fabric than the "Deluxe 9 yard Hand Sewn Kilt" I had previously had made in Scotland (the folks that made that kilt removed that kilt option from their listing after I asked them why I didn't receive any of the promised services they offered but I never heard back from them). The 5 yard kilt from USA Kilts I received arrived faster than my Scottish made one even though USA Kilts couldn't get the tartan fabric due to the Scottish mill being back ordered. The quality of the 5 yard kilt is certainly the equal of the Scottish made 9 yarder with the USA Kilts leather fasteners of higher quality along with providing a better all around fit to the kilt. The Scottish made 9 yard has a bit more swoosh in the pleats but really not that much more than the USA Kilts 5 yard version. Where USA Kilts really dominated the Scottish maker in quality was in the Fly Plaid as I only got a piece of cloth that really was too short by a couple of feet for a Fly Plaid from the Scottish folks while USA Kilts did a proper sized piece of cloth with the quality addition of a pleat stitched into one corner to make it far easier to wear. Overall USA Kilts has really outdone the competition offering excellent value for superior quality along with hitting excellent marks on time to completion and customer service. USA Kilts also has a LOT of YouTube videos covering all manner of things related to Scotland, kilts, tartans and pretty much everything you might need to know about ordering, wearing and respecting the culture of the kilt. If you have been thinking of ordering a kilt and think maybe you don't have a tartan well they have a great search feature to let you check out the possibilities of that and then they also have other options for you that they can help you with finding a suitable tartan so definitely contact these great folks. I wouldn't have guessed that though because they're basically in the middle of a forest on a quiet road and the building looks like it was abandoned or something on the outside. USA Kilts has so many choices for ordering your made-to-order kilt with the finest of materials and the best of traditional craftsmanship. My "Leatherneck" tartan semi-traditional (in poly-viscose) was super affordable, arrived way sooner than promised, and looked better than the $500+ kilts on other companies websites. I became a fan of theirs and ended up researching the company for a college business class project. The entire USA Kilts family lives the kilted lifestyle and their company is more than just a store front, website, or manufacturing plant. I bought a Premier pub kilt package (8yard kilt, ghillie shirt, sporran, belt, hose & flashes) from USAkilts back in April. While entering in my measurements online, I screwed up and put my hip measurement in both "waist" and "hip" dialog boxes. I received this wrongly-sized kilt and the rest of the package in June, a full two weeks earlier than promised. After a few e-mails and phone calls, we discovered where the screw up happened. Despite it being my fault, Rocky took back the kilt and made me a new one in the correct size, at cost. There were a few hiccups along the way: My fiancee initiated a dispute with the credit card company over the wrong-sized kilt which had to be smoothed out, the fabric I wanted wasn't available from the mill for the do-over so Rocky had to find a replacement. He warned me that since this do-over was a courtesy, it would likely be later than their usual 6-10 week turnaround, and that was before we hit any of those other bumps in the road! I received the replacement last Monday, a full month earlier than I was expecting. I'm not sure if Rocky planned for the kilt to arrive on my birthday, but I wouldn't put it past him. The workmanship is fantastic, and I'm continually bowled over by their customer service. Every step of the way, Rocky was calm, obliging, and patient, even when he had no reason to be. We bought 2 full outfits for my son's for ones wedding 2 years ago. Now we'll have to go back to get one for our new twin grandson. I'm sure we can find something there for his twin sister. I am not very happy with my purchase. I purchased the 8 yard kilt. My order took much longer than quoted. When I inquired about why it was delayed, I was told they had to order the tartan from overseas and then when it arrived it was the wrong one, so had to send it back and wait. (I was not notified of this. Only told because I had contacted them.) When it finally arrived almost three months late, there was not one fraction of material extra. It was cut to the exact fraction of an inch of the measurements I gave them if the buckles were fully extended. No allowance whatsoever for temporary water retention or heavy meal. Even the hem was shorter than expected. The pattern was not very attractive either. They made the darker lines cross horizontally on the front apron so it emphasizes the width and looks awful. This kilt was not at all what I was hoping for. After reading so many positive reviews, I was sorely dissappointed with my purchase. read more
