This place is really what you make of it. US Vets will supply you a lock, sheets, blanket, and a pillow. You will be assigned a barracks style room with heat in some rooms, no a/c, and are provided 3 meals a day at the chow hall. Thursday is clean up day for all the barracks. Curfew is at 11pm except for Friday and Saturday which ends at 1am. The food here is actually pretty good and plentiful. They have roll call or headcount, similar to what they do in boot camp or jail. A big determining factor of your stay here will be your room mate(s)! I had an awful experience due to mine, as he was a drug addict lowlife in his 60's that was stealing from me and others, he would often be high out of his mind and brag about what he scored from stealing on the beach. They later moved me into a room sharing with a man in his 80's with sleep apnea and loose bowels. I had to wake him a couple times to change his underwear, but was able to get him to finally shower and change out of the same clothes he's been wearing. These people were double my age and could not manage their finances therefore ended up here. They need to be in nursing homes, or back in jail, not their own apartments (they can at least have 3 meals a day and now worry about paying rent or finances, with a roof always over their head). Off campus is extremely dangerous and even inside of it you will get people here who have no business being here, the on campus security do pathetic job at keeping the campus secure and safe, and when they are around, will cower away from groups of people, intimidating individuals, or stay away from dark areas. On campus drugs are plentiful and is an excellent place to score basically anything you're looking for. Meth is the most commonly used drug upon residents here from what I've seen. I was almost in TWO altercations with tenants here who were both high out of their minds out of the 4 months here, and have seen numerous altercations and fights being here. US Vets is a safe haven for addicts and enables people to acquire cheap housing and use freely with no repercussions. Even if caught, they will not care as long as you sign in, so they are funded. This an AWFUL place for people in recovery such as myself, heroin, meth, and fentanyl are the common drugs used and sold here. US Vets does not screen people or drug test, all they care about is that you sign in daily so they are paid for your attendance. I have seen people AWOL for days at a time, meaning they are not in their room when bed checks are being conducted by curfew. The rooms and bathrooms are filthy, gnats infest the bathrooms and certain rooms have roaches and mice (in my 3 month stay I've had 5 different rooms so I've seen a lot). You supply your own hand soap and toilet paper, I cleaned my buildings bathroom 3x a week and my room once a week with my own cleaning supplies since my eczema flares up with strong bleach odor. You are not allowed to have your own cleaning supplies, they must be hidden in your vehicle or locker. I had my cleaning supplies confiscated by staff as they're a prohibited item, yet they allowed my roommate to store a stolen bicycle inside our room because he could not afford a lock. Ironically, I even opted to sleeping in my car several nights, (when I wasn't sleeping on my floor bed due to uncomfortable beds) because I couldn't handle the snoring, farting, and stench of these old men. The parking lot here is lit and safe at least. The case managers here are complete morons and will give you the runaround if you do not advocate for yourself. They are unorganized, have attitudes, desensitized, and clearly hate their jobs. Based on my experience, if you are a complete dirt bag with no morals, and have the worst odor you will be the alpha, because your roommate won't be able to handle it. This place is a complete sh!t show if you do not have a room to yourself. I have a better night of sleep, sleeping in the car. read more

A shithole. US Vets has turned former Navy base housing into the projects. The entire complex is awash in drugs, alcohol, and prostitutes. Crackheads scurrying around at night, elderly Vets are abused or ignored, so called "veteran service assistants" are more harmful than helpful. Veterans are "helped" according to their race. Many of the veterans residing here have other than honorable discharges and act other than honorable. I am disgusted and sickened that this organization receives federal money to create this appalling environment. I would rather be homeless and sleep on the streets than spend a night here. We are having these " Non Profit" businesses officially investigated!! These again, "Non-Profits" have been getting away with misuse of government funds and abuse of our nations Veterans for over a decade. Incompetent, corrupt, disgusting, all management must be replaced asap before any normalcy can prosper. Management looks at Vets as the enemy and openly treats them as such. Extremely low success rate of 18%! An embarrassment to all veterans! A hell hole of psychological and physical abuse. Entire program must be disbanded and rebuilt from the bottom up.
