I was born pre-1950 and I remember the "Mailman" that delivered to the creed: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." We knew our mailman's name and the name of his wife and kids! We offered him a lemonade in the hot summer and my folks gave him a Christmas present because they appreciated what he did for us!
Now it's 2018 and the USPS has changed with the times! Our "Mail Carrier" (gender neutral) drives up to our mailbox (who walks anymore?) and places our mail (mostly bills) in the box! I rarely catch a glimpse of these employees and I sure don't know their names or anything about them!!
But they still do a wonderful job! They accomplish their task and rarely do they hear a "thank you" or "well done"!
Recently, I received a card from my 93 year old mother in Pittsburgh, PA. The handwriting was shaky and illegible! I could barely made out my last name and our zip-code. AND IT WAS DELIVERED TO THE RIGHT HOUSE 300 MILES AWAY!
Job well done! It wasn't the result of some technical machine who electronically scanned the envelope and directed it to the right place! NO! It required human intervention AND THEY DID THEIR JOB'S!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
The next time that white jeepster pulls up to my mailbox and I happen to be nearby, I plan to take a minute to learn our carriers name and personally thank them for caring!!! read more
