I've been coming to the Portland branch at 400 Congress Street since I moved here last year, and it's not an exaggeration to say that it's always an uplifting experience. All the staff are super knowledgeable and helpful (even the slightly grumpy guy), and when I was in a transient status for my first few months here they were especially great at helping me finesse multiple mail forwarding/PO box/re-forwarding stages (which can get all kinds of complicated). Sure, there are lines sometimes; even when I've had to wait here, they move things along at a good clip (and don't forget that USPS isn't funded or staffed up as much as it could be, which isn't the fault of the employees). It's the little interactions that make daily life better, and coming into this branch is one of them.

The one clerk, Lindy, was great and running the show on her own while several other employees popped their heads out, saw the growing line, and disappeared again. While standing and waiting, six people joined the line, waited, and left after seeing how poor the service was. This seems like a place where service is not valued. Except Lindy. You go, Lindy.

Replacement p o boxes vary in price depending on if you go in or order online. I recommend going in person when possible for the best results. They have standard business hrs. The post office clerks have always been helpful and kind to me. They do have peak hrs. So if your have business you need to get done. Call ahead and ask for a good time to go. Getting into the post office / leaving can be a bit of a pain due to cars blocking view while trying to leave or the street light being right in front of the main entrance.

It's a smaller UPS compared to many others, so it can get congested with customers quickly; like just three or four people and it feels claustrophobic. The store is usually very clean. And when there's no one else in line, you can get in and out very quickly. It's easy to drop off prepaid boxes (though there's not a lot of counter space; one big box and you'll have to start stacking), it's easy to have them scan/process QR codes for Amazon returns, it's easy to email the store for prints (and they're super patient helping with that). The biggest issue is their staffing. Sometimes there's only one person working (it's infrequent that there's anyone within sight when I first enter the store; sometimes the person in the back will shout-out a greeting though)!. Picture this - because it happens often here -: three customers (one who needs thirty prints in color, one who doesn't really have their box taped or even the address they were sending their cookies to, one who needs to just drop off a return) all walk in at the same time vs one employee. Let's be patient and appreciative out there, folks. Open 7:30am to 6pm Monday through Friday; open at 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays.

A very relaxing…read morelibrary The very first thing that you notice when you walk into the South Portland Library is that it's comfortable, pleasant and relaxing. Nothing harsh or authoritarian about this library. Everything looks soft and inviting, from the large windows that give lots of natural light to the plants and art that grace the walls. Lots of space inside, nothing is cramped or crowded, very easy to find a spot to spread out and read a book or do some research. Side rooms for when you wish to talk or quiet areas when you want to be alone with your own thoughts. Of course it has computers and Wi-Fi as well as a nice selection of periodicals and other library necessaries. The librarians were friendly and helpful and you could tell that they enjoyed their jobs of helping people. South Portland isn't the largest, most historic or cutest library in Maine. It is one of the most relaxing, friendliest and useful.

There are concrete poles, and installed poles to keep this from happening, but y'all literally drive up and onto the sidewalk in through the crosswalk areas to get into the square. Wtf is wrong with you? They were kids running around, there are people trying to walk through, including people with disabilities. I get that sucks having to do deliveries when you have to park far away and I understand that sucks but guess what Portland just has bad parking and instead of putting everyone else's safety at risk so that you don't have to inconvenience yourself it's a pretty messed up move.
