Although there is a long line, staff is nice and willing to answer your question when you are waiting. It is not a easy job. Some staff are old people and they have to stand there to work for a long time. Be patience to them. read more

I see a lot of people nitpicking about this and that. But nobody is really talking about the most glaring problem, the TERRIBLE HOURS. I get off work around 5:00pm, and it takes me an hour to get home, so that means I will NEVER be able to use this place because the entire place shuts down at 5:30pm Monday-Friday and they aren't open at all on the weekends. Wouldn't it make more sense to allocate the majority of hours that it stays open to the evening when people aren't trapped at work? As it stands now, this place is just a meaningless building with services that I can't use because they are unavailable to me. read more

The retail portion of this office closes at 5:30. No big deal, that sounds about right. The lobby closes at 6:30. That's a little weird, probably because other offices I've visited remain open 24 hours a day. Usually at those locations you can use the automated post machine and drop your letter or package into a slot or the big barrel container, any time day or night. Not this one, apparently. So there's an hour window between when the retail portion closes and when they lock the outer doors. I stopped by on a Monday evening sometime between 5:30 and 6:30. I use the automated postal machine to buy postage for a package. I apply the label to the box then attempt to drop it in the barrel thing. It felt like it was jammed, so I pulled on the handle a little roughly. There was a piece of painted plywood covering the letter slots, mentioning that any letters going out need to go into the blue boxes outside the office. I didn't really think this applied to the package container, as there was no other sign indicating so. So I yanked on the barrel a few more times. An employee came out from a door next to the barrel and nastily pointed out the letter slot sign. I asked if she could take my package, as it's labeled and ready to go. She acted as though I was asking a ridiculous question and said 'No, the office is closed for the day, you'll have to just send it out tomorrow.' Well, I understood that it wouldn't be processed until the next day, but I just bought postage and expected to be able to drop the package. Nope. So why have the lobby open for another hour and then limit the services to what, only PO boxes? That's about the only thing you can do between 5:30 and 6:30. And buy postage from a machine if you're interested in labeling your package but also toting it around for the rest of your trek. Lastly, and I hate to contribute to a stereotype (postal workers are stereotyped right?), but the only remotely pleasant experience at this post office, and every other I've visited, has been with - can you guess? The automated postal machine, of course! I can't figure out if the employees get some gratification from the power they wield, or if they're mistreated regularly; but the takeaway is that they could not care less about your shipping needs, let alone your basic needs as a person. Just once I would like to have a normal human-to-human interaction with someone who works there. Nothing fancy. Just a nice enough person who will talk to me like the adult I am, and help me if I need it. And certainly not act like that's the last thing they're interested in doing (you know... their job?). Sorry for the rant, but perhaps someone will read this and act. Not likely. But maybe. Because if this office and others continue to operate like this consistently, then the entire US Postal Service deserves to run their business straight into the ground. I'll happily use UPS or Fed-Ex for my shipping needs :) read more

I freelance and rely on paychecks being sent to me. my carrier is from this branch and has misdelevered THREE of my checks within an 8 month period. that's so stressful. (UPDATE: it hasn't stopped happening. at this point they have now lost a total of FIVE checks in less than a year.) ugh. the worst thing is that I have no choice. it's not like I can choose who my clients use to send checks. read more

Just went at 9:15AM on a Friday to ship a package. No wait, friendly attendants.

The first time I came here when they were open inside, a lady had about 10 things to mail out and went to the line that was 1 item only. I waited about 15 minutes, and went to the one item line with two items, and he wouldn't wait on me after waiting on someone with much more to mail out. I waited another 10 minutes to finally send out my two items. The last two times I've gone in , it's been self-serve, and there are no pens for writing the address it goes to. You have to buy one from the counter from the guy with four pens hanging in his shirt pocket. If you HAVE to come here, bring your own pen. read more

Loving the downtown Seattle United States Post Office on 3rd and Union. There are employees actually working the windows and helping customers and even a postal concierge walking through the line with a smile on her face asking if there is anything she can assist with so you don't have to wait in line if it is not necessary. This place is like Disneyland compared to the miserable excuse for a post office in the international district. Where you have a line 20 deep and one nasty woman to eventually help (and I use that term loosely) them all. Well, almost all, about half end up walking out with their packages still in tow. Thank you downtown USPS for making one of my errands a positive experience today. read more

Conveniently located near my work but there's always a line. I like the machine around the corner where you can buy a book of stamps out of which makes it faster. It's a little dingy inside but you're there to ship stuff or pick stuff up so no biggie. read more

Usually I would not have to ever go to a post office. Who does really? So anyways, I got a not in my mail box saying "... sorry we missed you..." well you know the yellow slips they give you. So they didn't deliver my package, great. So I went to the post office on Union St in Seattle and walked up and put my yellow slip on counter. Lady working had her back turned away from counter and sorting out what ever she was working on. I said hi and no response. Another lady worker that saw us from afair and yelled " hey its a customer" she then turned, grabbed my slip and wobbled away. Excuse me if that's not a word but that's what she did. She looked for it and said she wasn't sure if they had it then wobbled away to look for it in the other section of the office, she was gone for a while it seems like 10 min. Then when she came back she decided to talk to one of the guys that was working there also. I was in a hurry and really needed to get to work. That's why I came to the post office an hour before work starts. My work is up the block. Lol maybe I shoud of came much early. " Excuse me package" she then wobbled back to me annoyed I interupted her and said not sure if its here but let me check. She then went back to looking for it at the first area again and there it was. She handed it to me and said sorry it was that one spot I didn't check cuz I thought it wouldnt be. there haha she thought that was really funny. What a careless employee! I go to this post office all the time. I do agree that the lines and wait are long at times, but to me that is what is expected when visiting a Post Office. I haven't had really any of the experiences that others have mentioned. The staff is always nice to me. Yes some are friendlier than others, but I have yet met anyone that was just down right rude. As far as the homeless people hanging around, well it's downtown, they are everywhere! I think some people are just naturally impatient or always in a hurry to go no where. If that is you, I would suggest not to come to this post office. read more
