Here's the story if you're interested. My package gets marked as "undeliverable" at 12:43pm, I'm a renter at an address that doesn't have a mailbox, so I left instructions in Amazon to deliver to the garage. I spend a few minutes digging around the USPS website to find it's undeliverable because "number does not exist" and see that it's been "returned to sender". So I look up the store on google. The phone # listed is the USPS national#, not the store#. Call the national number, wade through the robotic operator for about 20 minutes trying all the options before I give up and just keep saying "speak to a representative" at every question and ignoring all the prompts. That works in about 2 minutes and I find out I'll be on hold for 30-45 minutes, and all I want is the phone# for this location, to which I can drive in less than that. So I stay on the line (just in case) and listen to the hold music on the 24 minute drive to the post office, into which I walk to find a lady who stares at me until I say something. "I need to track a package"... This begins a several minutes long process of her discovering it's not in the post office... and then calling the person who's out delivering packages. She speaks to that person for a minute, asks me "are you going back out to the house now?" to which I say "yes" and she says something else to the person on the phone and then hangs up. She turns to me and says "she said she'll bring it to you, she's in a grey van, just meet her out front". This prompts so many questions I struggle to formulate one of them and finally ask "wait, so I just go sit on my porch and wait until somebody hands me a package?" And she says "she'll be in a grey van" "Why didn't she just leave it at the garage like the directi..." "You gonna have to take that up with her" I left and then had the good sense to turn around in the door and say "can I please have your number? You're my only contact to this grey van person" and she gave me the # above. I proceeded to wait outside my house until 4:20 or so, (the post office closes at 4:30) and no grey van. So I call the number she gave me 6 times, each time ringing for about 2 minutes and then disconnecting, until 4:35pm (when it became evident she wasn't going to answer and had gone home for the day) I know she ignored the calls because back when I was at the post office, that entire conversation with the woman was laced with a constantly ringing phone which she ignored for the entire 5 minutes I was in the post office. I also in that 10 minute window received the busy signal twice. My phone listed it as the number for their store after I called it, meaning Google knows somewhere that it's their store#, it's just not listed in the places any logical adult would look for it. Long story short I still happen to be outside at 5:03 when the grey van does in fact show up. The lady inside the van tells me flatly "I don't deliver if you don't have a mailbox, you should put a mailbox in." She was nice enough but obviously wasn't going to have a conversation about how ridiculous her statement is when there are clear delivery instructions about how to deal with that scenario and FedEx, UPS, Amazon, and every other delivery company have no problem with this. So many easy solutions to this issue but thanks for wasting my whole afternoon, St. Helen's USPS. Post your stupid phone# online, not the corporate#. Also answer your stupid phone. Also just ask the lady why she didn't follow the delivery instructions while you're right there on the phone with her instead of making me ask her whenever the stars align for us to meet. Also follow the delivery instructions or don't ask for them. Anyways my toddler's $9 hair wax works fine. If I'd known it'd be $9 and 4 hours of my time, I'd have just shipped it to my own address in Virginia where we have a functional postal service.
