You meet your neighbors at the Post Office. You make decisions at the Post Office. You see your contractors at the Post Office. And in New London, you pick up the latest copy of the Kearsarge Shopper, the ultimate must-know, should-know, wanna-know, TMI, and why-do-I-know publication in the area. The Post Office provides a huge service in the town of New London. Located a few steps from the local grocery store, it makes a one-trip shopping, errands and mail stop a reality. In addition, a large part of the town's population rents PO Boxes due to the Winter practice on the part of the state snowplows to invariably take down mail poles with the boxes next to each address. Staffed by really nice people who realize they're making a contribution to the well being of the town and the vitality of the community.

Then instead of connecting you with an agent it disconnects. THREE TIMES. OK GET THIS! I had a package of medicine sent from Amazon to an address that I've been sending Amazon packages to for months. The address is a regular one in my amazon address list. The package was not delivered on Sunday like it was suppose to be. Checked the tracking number. It said that it wasn't delivered because only the City and State was on the label not the name and street address. I spent all morning being incredibly frustrated trying to solve the problem only for the package recipient to finally have to physically take her two toddlers with her to the post office to be told that THE MAIL CARRIER DIDN'T FINISH HIS OR HER DELIVERY ROUTE SO JUST WENT BACK TO THE POST OFFICE AND MADE UP THE EXCUSE THAT THE ADDRESS WASN'T ON IT. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The address was on it all along. Typical PO workers, standing around with their thumbs up their butts collecting a pay check. It alway wants you to take a survey but since it disconnect you then you never get a chance to tell them what collosal failures they are. I'd be totally humiliated to work there.

The experience is as follows - a brief outgoing message describing service area, window hours, advice on tracking packages, etc., reporting vandalism, passport services. Remain on the line and someone will be with you shortly, then your call will be transferred to the operator, then the phone rings again for quite a while until a busy signal ensues. No one EVER answers.

I thought my shipment was coming thru fedex but the post office somehow got involved. Given many of the places on the lake are seasonal they just send the packages back to sender that they contract with amazon to deliver. The good news is im sure the Newbury PO will be out of business soon and these guys can all go learn that customer service is critically important - even when you're on the government payroll. Good riddance.
