Tried sending a package twice in the same day and nobody was there. I came at noon and there was a sign "on a break, will return in 15 minutes" so I waited 30 minutes for someone to come and nobody did. I drove back at 4pm today to send the same package and again nobody is here. read more

I came to the Fendale Post Office on March 9, 2026, around 4:30 PM. The black lady with thick, long fake braids was the only clerk working at that time. I asked her how many stamps I need to mail a letter in a vanilla envelope in the blue box. She said rudely that she needed the area code. I said it's going to Madison Heights, and she then responded that she needed the area code to give me a price. I left and went to my car to get information and give her the area code. I returned to her window to ask her some questions, and she started rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing, taking her hands to her forehead as if she had a headache. She then got loud with me and said she had already told me how much it costs. I said for two separate letters, to which she responded, "Oh, you didn't say two." I tried to ask other questions, but she continued to be rude, so I returned the energy. We both got loud, and I asked for her name. She said she did not have to give me her name and that I should leave because I would get nothing there. I said I would call her manager, and she said to do so because she's going nowhere. I will still be here. She's right, and that's why people would rather do business without the stress of unprofessional workers who do not fear consequences for their actions. read more

I tried to call the postmaster.... the AI wouldn't allow a call directly to the Ferndale Postmaster or representative??? After a long fruitless list of options, I couldn't get to a human representative. Such a sorry state of communication and customer service. read more

Called about 10 times to try to deal with an issue and didn't get an answer. Showed up a few days later and waited about 10 minutes for somebody to come out. Once the guy finally appeared, he was really rude and treated me like I was stupid. Apparently any address/package issues- you need to go to the livernois location. read more

Amazing service happened today. I couldn't find a package that tracking said it had been delivered. I filled out the form stating I had an issue. I received an email back the next morning and then a call. The woman spoke with our carrier, confirmed with GEO tagging (I am guessing) that it was officially scanned at my home. Emailed me more details and asked me to follow up when I found it. SO kind, patient and understanding..when in the end..I had the package all along (another family member had brought it in). Holidays are no joke with packages coming. They handled my issue beautifully! read more

Came in around 12:20 pm with a line. Sign on the window saying they would be back at 12:30 after their lunch break. A postal employee strolls in behind the counter and starts organizing things, while there's a line waiting to be assisted. Comes to the desk and takes the taped on sign off and says "Can I help you". One employee working there and clearly is doing the customer a favor. Make sure you don't go there during the single employees lunch hour. Royal Oak Post Office is a mile down the street. THE WORST. Zero accountability, zero professionalism. I've called numerous times every day this week with zero answers. Today (Saturday) they answered the phone and asked me to hold for a minute. That was 29 minutes ago. ***EDIT: after writing this review, I stayed on the line and continued listening to office banter and laughter. I walked to the post office to see no other customers, and a bored-looking employee behind the glass. I held my phone to the glass, showed her I've been on hold for 50 minutes, and asked her if she intended to pick up the phone. I always forget how slow this post office is. I don't know the internal structure or problems but always SO slow. This morning I go in, close to Christmas, and there is only one woman helping customers. There were at least 5-6 people in line, some with multiple packages. It's also very small so when. The Ferndale Post Office was nearly a casualty in the Battle of Ferndale fought in 2011, but the brave defense of the citizens prevented USPS from closing the little federal-style building peering out over Woodward. The decision turned out to be providential as Dollar Castle's closure removed the only other postal counter and source for stamps and reliable postage at hours favourable to the full-time worker. Besides, nearly every shopper comes to appreciate sneaking guiltily into the unmetered lot at the post office rather than paying a quarter at the perennially overflowing lot shared between One-Eyed Betty's and Anita's Kitchen. I thought better of the Ferndale PO, but the more I use it, the more I understand the frustration of locals. I get better customer service in the Meijer self-serve lanes. When you need to contact a postal employee, the only successful way is face to face. No one ever picks up the phone during posted business hours, and the line rings without the consolation of an answering machine. Could we get with the 1990s and have an answering service as consolation for our woes? When I have a missing package, the 1-800 USPS line instructs me to contact Ferndale for confirmation of scanning, but I can't get a warm body on the line to answer the question. What's a girl to do? I use the post office pretty much exclusively for buying stamps and tossing envelopes into the postal slot. I'm not exactly a heavy user. Like a bitter ex, the post office doesn't make visitation easy. Heavy line-ups at 5:00 PM glut the tiny foyer and employees seem ready to knock off 30 minutes before. They act like we've done something wrong trying to get their attention. The bulletproof glass sort of sucks, especially for hearing soft spoken agents clearly. I understand the security precaution but find the additional barrier frustrating for communication, audibility, or stuffing something through the slot. The cramped interior also makes long lines troublesome, though I imagine the main branch in Royal Oak alleviates some of these concerns. I haven't used parcel pickup here so I cannot comment on the efficiency. At Christmas it's probably a better option than leaving your parcels out where someone can walk off with them, but again, go with Royal Oak if you can (better access, better hours). I like the idea of having my own post office right there without need to fight for parking in Royal Oak, especially on my way home. But in execution, this location is barely functional for simple services. read more

The WORST post office. Every employee is rude and on a power trip. You'd think that during the holidays there would be more than one window open, but the only person "working" has held up the line for twenty minutes and counting, because "the computer is down." I do not have any issues with this post office or with the mail delivery service. The office is worn down but it adds to Ferndale's charm. The employees do not make or break my day. The ample parking lot in back should be shared with Anitas. read more

I consciously try to avoid the word 'lucky', but I suppose there always exceptions. From the other reviews, it seems as though I am lucky. Employees I've encountered have been not only helpful, but pleasant. An aside: I only visit the post office to pickup flat rate shipping boxes, or specific stamps (Maya Angelou, Batman, Pixar, etcetera). I'm typically pretty excited to buy said stamps, and as a result enter the post office in giddy anticipation. read more

This isn't so much a review of the office, rather somebody who delivers mail for USPS in Ferndale. I was jogging north on West End Ave toward Nine Mile road last night. I was in the street near the curb about 7:00 pm (dark). A tall white van turned off Nine Mile road toward me. The passenger side headlight of the van was not working. As the van passed me the driver yelled that I should have reflective clothing on. It was a postal van. It struck me, as odd, that the driver would admonish me when he was driving an unsafe vehicle. Please fix your van. It is not a good reflection on your post office. read more

Does anyone like going to the post office? Doubtful. But I'm floored at all of the one star reviews. What are you expecting?!? No lines? Organization? Friendly employees??? Geez, if I ever had a postal worker smile at me I'd be worried that it was their first day and my package was probably going to end up at the bottom of a trash can. I usually end up here in the morning hours, and I am mildly shocked that they don't have anyone working the counter until 10am. They open the doors earlier, however, so it never fails that at 9:50 there is at least one confused elderly person wondering where everyone is. Seriously, 10am seems insanely late to open for a post office. But pretty cushy for the employees, you'd think they'd be in a better mood. Speaking of employees, I've only ever seen one woman working here. She seems fairly competent, but curt, because it's the post office. All of my packages have arrived on time. I don't need collectable stamps or that sort of nonsense so I doubt I've been the sort of annoying customer that civil servants seem to despise. So she's all good in my book. What I like about this place? Well, free lot parking is pretty sweet. And the historic building is downright nifty. And it's about a half mile from my home, so pretty convenient. If this is what people think of for a one star experience, I can tell you that your life is going to be full of disappointments! read more

Been selling online (ebay and such) for nearly 10 years now. In that time, I've had the pleasure of dealing with many post offices. This is hands down the absolute WORST post office I have ever been to. Incredibly slow, terrible hours and extremely rude uneducated staff. Oh, and there is never a manager there. So when even if you want to file a complaint forget it. The managers all reside at the College Park post office. Which in my opinion, is the better of the two in the area. Geez where to begin.. I come into this PO at least twice a week and usually my bill is around 100.00, I always have everything ready with it addressed, stickered, etc.. Today I go in and Reta was incredibly rude to me, in the span of 30 minutes I was there she was snappy, raised her voice, and made me feel completely unwanted. Seems like if you shell out around 200-300 a month somewhere they can at least pretend to be nice. The ladies who work at the window are pretty awful. When I brought in my taxes to be mailed, I asked that they be postmarked that day. The lady just threw them in a box in the corner and ignored me. "Will they be postmarked with today's date?" I asked. "They'll get there!" she snapped back. Right before that, the same lady was yelling at some poor confused young man about something. Worst damn post office ever. They regularly close early, they're not friendly nor helpful, and their mail delivery sucks. They never have pens to fill out their forms, they're rude, and they won't lift a finger to help you out. What's worse is, even the mail carriers suck. I constantly receive registered mail (I'm a lawyer, I actually get a lot of registered mail), and the carrier never knocks for me to sign for the receipt of my letters. They just leave the card in the box and force me to go pick it up, 10 miles away. What great service... Garbage. read more

I needed to mail a large box to Hawaii. I arrived at the post office a half hour before they closed. There was only one clerk and 7 people ahead of me in line. It took me about 15 minutes total from arrival to completion of my transaction. The clerk was friendly and efficient with each customer. She helped me get the best deal on shipping my package and gave me advice for saving money the next time I ship to Hawaii. read more

The gentleman that is bald or going bald is not our regular postman. We usually have a girl. But every time he is doing the route we get the wrong mail and he will sometimes just leave the mailbox lid down instead of closing it. Doesn't seem to help calling in and reporting the problem.
