With brass post office boxes and drive by mailboxes on both sides of the street. This post office serves a population of about 350, and is located across the street from the East Broad Top Railroad. By the way, if you're in PA, you've got to take a ride on this vintage railway established in about 1870; it's the oldest narrow-gauge railroad in the US. While traveling back home from Niagara Falls towards Massanutten on our summer vacation last year, I came across a directional sign saying "Turner's Covered Bridge" and I couldn't help myself. Situated about 1/2 mile off Hwy 31 along a dirt road, it was an easy detour to make since it didn't take us too far off course. BRIDGE FACTS Year Built: 1892 Builder: Unknown Length: 89 feet Also known as: Diehl's Bridge Truss type: Burr Arch Location: Raystown Branch of the Juniata river FINAL THOUGHTS I think all historic covered bridges are beautiful, but this one is probably one of my least favorites. Surprisingly, despite its wispy appearance, this bridge is actually still drivable. However, it is riddled with painted graffiti as well as names carved deep into the wood truss. This is one of a very few covered bridges that I would probably not recommend visiting. It's pretty beat up and decaying. Torrential downpour yesterday from Ida and once again I had water seeping into my basement through…read morea crack in the foundation. Should have had that fixed long ago but didn't. Not the first time for this. I usually tackled that job myself, many times in the past, but I'm waiting for back surgery and have to be real careful. Called around to buy a pump but they were all sold out. Then I thought to call Imgrund's, known him for many years, and asked if he took care of that kind of thing. Long story short, he was there to size up the job in a couple hours. We decided to let it go to the floor drains overnight until it quit seeping in. He showed up as scheduled around noon with his crew and they jumped on it. Sucked up about 50 gallons of water and the floor was almost dry, then sprayed disinfectant where the water had been. Set my fans in place and done in about an hour. So, Quick response, job got done fast and very well done, and the charge was very reasonable. These guys were the best and I can't say how thankful I am for them coming to my aid. BTW, they do the same good work with carpet cleaning. I've seen a few. Awesome business ethic. You don't need to look further.

Earlier this month, my husband and I took a road trip from New Jersey to Chicago and back. The…read morefirst leg of our trip involved traversing across Pennsylvania along the PA Turnpike. Our westbound drive included going through the Mountain Tunnels - Tuscarora being one of them. It's a cool experience to take this scenic route and drive through this tunnel. Forewarning, beautiful but there's a risk. We took this route on 6/4 and we were stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for hours because of a closure at Allegheny Tunnel due to a vehicle fire inside the tunnel (150 people were evacuated from the tunnel). If something happens in the tunnel, there isn't room to easily detour cars out of the tunnel.

George Washington's Whiskey Rebellion was headquartered here. "The Big Coffee Pot" as it's known was created by David Koontz in 1927. It was actually once a lunch stand and after that it became a bar. It now sits on the Lincoln Highway and has become an historical landmark much like the town and the highway it sits on. The pot is a museum and it also has a little gift shop. A must-see if roadtripping through the area.

I have fond memories of the place, and it reminded me of so many roadside Americana spots I would see in Southern California where businesses turned to these types of structures as advertising opportunities for products and services (think big barrels, gigantic donuts and yes a big coffee pot). It's well worth a stop just for the fun of it all.

This rest stop is located in Fulton County, and a few miles east of Bedford, PA. The Sideling Hill Service Plaza is one of 17 stops along the famous PA Turnpike, which connects the state from east to west. There are currently 7 storefronts in the space, and 3 of those are open 24 hours. It includes a Dunkin', Baskin Robbins, Auntie Anne's, Sbarro, Burger King, Popeye's, and a 7-11 Convenience Store, along with Sunoco-branded gas pumps. The building itself is open 24 hours for the use of facilities and gas. As stated, there are 3 stores that are open 24 hours - Dunkin', Baskin Robbins, and 7-11/Sunoco Gas. There are plenty of parking spots here. Along with the gas pumps, there is a private parking lot on the side of the building. You will have no issue grabbing a spot just a few steps away from the entrance. There is plenty of seating, as well as other amenities, located inside. Along with traditional and accessible restroom options, there are so many tables for travelers to take a break at and enjoy their food. I would be surprised if someone visited and was unable to find a table, as there are a lot. Also, there are some massage chairs around the perimeter. I loved the fun Pennsylvania map art that hung outside of the restrooms. Below this area were several free pieces of literature about different areas of the state. My stop here was on a Saturday in September around 10:00 AM. It was not too crowded, but there were travelers both inside and out of the rest stop. None of the lines inside were very long at this point in the day, with the exception of Dunkin'. I was traveling with my dad, and we came to take a few minutes, grab breakfast, and fuel the car. I had no issues with the restrooms, as they were clean and serviceable. Next, I visited the Dunkin' located across from the restrooms. It was busy, but it did not take too long to get my food from start to finish. It was less than 10 minutes overall. They have kiosks to order from, but I wanted to use my Dunkin' account to pay, and I truthfully could not figure it out. So, I placed my order with the cashier and had no issues doing so. The quality and taste of my food was good. My dad got a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Bagel, and I got a Large Iced Coffee. I will write a more detailed review on the Dunkin' on their Yelp page, but thought it was worthwhile to include some on this review as well. We also filled up the car with gas at the Sunoco pumps. No issues here, and all pumps were serviceable at the time of our visit. Obviously, with this rest stop being on the Turnpike, the prices are a little higher than if you went to your local shop. I did not think they were too crazy, though. This includes the gas, but that all is the price you pay for traveling this road. The Sideling Hill Service Plaza is a spacious stop along the Pennsylvania Turnpike that has a plethora of options for dining, resting, and refueling. There is a lot of seating, so it would be a good stop for groups. Plus, with so many eateries, everyone will find something they like. I will definitely be stopping back here on future trips along the Turnpike!
