Alan had…read moregone to the Camden post office and picked up a couple of large Priority Mail boxes this morning, but they were too small for our purposes so we were going to return them when we came to mail our box. We put our new sweatshirts and t-shirts in, nestled the dish among them, put in more clothing and some chargers off to the side and topped off the whole thing w/ our accumulated paper bags, which we can use for recycling newspapers at home. I addressed it, we sealed it and, since we had time, drove to the Camden post office on the assumption that it will be busier tomorrow (Saturday), when it's open only from 9am-noon. We parked in front. Alan carried the box to be mailed while I carried the two boxes to be returned. He directed me to where they were stored and went right to a clerk who was available to help him. After I put the boxes away I joined him at the counter. We had it marked fragile and chose the slowest, cheapest rate since we're in no hurry. It was almost 15 pounds and came to $46 and change. That's about what we were charged for sending the ceramic fish from the gallery in Woods Hole. It would have been more economical if we had taken it ourselves and just put it in one of the large Priority Mail boxes, as well as it had been wrapped. No matter. Maybe we'll remember next time. The clerk who helped us was very personable and again we were in and out quickly.

It was time to pass it from one generation to the next and the clock needed cleaned, minor repairs and adjustments to prepare it for transport to the next generation. Daniel Beaton of Matters of Time, took the time to do the work and do it well and never once suggested the clock was not worthy of being well taken care of. He even said "it is a privilege to be part of this family's story and this clock is priceless." After initial inspection he quoted the price and a time frame for the work and he kept his word. How many people do we meet in this day and age that care not only for the quality of their work, but the worth and value of the customer? I highly recommend Daniel and his work at Matters of Time.

Their office hours are only 8am-11am so if they forget the trash you can't get ahold of them until the next day for someone to come get it. And they would send someone out the next day. The last straw was they didn't show up to pick up our trash so I called and left a message on their Facebook messenger and never got a reply. Turns out we didn't pay the last months bill but we also didn't receive a bill like normal. Instead of communicating this they just didn't pick up the trash and ignored our calls and messages.

We rented a house on Deer Isle and one of the check out instructions was that we need to take our trash to the transfer station. It was one of the most disgusting places I've ever been to. I grew up in a city that had garbage strikes so smelly trash I can deal with, but this was just horrific. There was a trash compactor that oozed the most vile liquid I've ever smelled, construction material was heaped in a pile at least 30 feet high and they don't recycle anything but returnable items. Really, Deer Isle is great, I don't actually generate a lot of trash, next time I'll bring it home with me.
