Well it is a transfer station. It is a dump. It is on Deer Isle Maine and it is necessary. The crusher machine is the coolest thing ever. Chris who is the dump master is so gentle and kind, truly a gentleman. We have been coming here since the 1980s and we have family who dates back 100 years plus. We live on little deer Isle and think it is magnanimous. Please note 8 AM to 4 PM closed Mondays and Thursdays. Recycling is not a thing here on the islands. If you know where recycling occurs please take your recycling home with you. Best to all who know that single used plastic is the scourge of the entire world. read more

So, I live in a rural area and bring my trash and recyclables to the transfer station near me. Additionally, I've gone with my mother to her transfer station so I'm not naive about what a transfer station is like. We rented a house on Deer Isle and one of the check out instructions was that we need to take our trash to the transfer station. It was one of the most disgusting places I've ever been to. I grew up in a city that had garbage strikes so smelly trash I can deal with, but this was just horrific. There was a trash compactor that oozed the most vile liquid I've ever smelled, construction material was heaped in a pile at least 30 feet high and they don't recycle anything but returnable items. Really, Deer Isle is great, I don't actually generate a lot of trash, next time I'll bring it home with me. read more

The Deer isle transfer station is without question one of the finest establishments on the island. The service is second to none and the layout is absolutely perfect. It's a perfect meeting spot for friends on any day but specifically Sunday morning, I could spend all Sunday at the dump and not feel like a second of my day was wasted. It smells how it's supposed to smell, like a dump. By far the best parts of the dump are the take it or leave it pile which is always full of some valuable and useful treasures just waiting to go home with me and the scrap pile that's always full but can't pick over sadly but it's nice to just sit there and look at all the treasures. Also personally love hanging around the burn pile whiles she burning and slamming back some cold ones with the boys. Overall absolutely a 10/10 experience and a great place to spend the day. read more
