This review is relative to our experience in the late morning / early afternoon of Saturday, July…read more7, 2012.
My partner and I flew up to Northern Washington to look at residential neighborhoods and homes for several days, along the Hood Canal, Hoodsport, Belfair and Port Townsend, etc. On our way to the airport Saturday late morning, we were enjoying looking at the homes for sale along the water and drove into Belfair to scope out their town. It was great! Looked really charming and we could see ourselves potentially becoming homeowners there - and, hopefully opening our business.
Both of us had to use the restroom badly, so I saw the North Mason Chamber / Visitor's Center and thought, "What better place to stop, get info on the community - and have a restroom break!"
Boy was I ever wrong. We walked into the nicely appointed building which a couple of different businesses occupied. It was Saturday. No other cars / patrons, etc. were there. It was just the 2 of us. The Center was open so we walked in. I began looking at the ton of information around the office, in regards to real estate, community information, etc. My other half politely asked the receptionist if he could use their restroom? She must have been a temporary, or new. She was probably middle-aged, blond and she said, "I don't know." She walked down the small hallway to ask another woman, who must have been in charge - we did not see her, but we heard a small child back there (must have been hers she was babysitting on a weekend) and we heard the conversation: "Someone wants to know if they can use our restroom?" Woman's answer: "No! We do not have bathrooms available for public access. TEll them to go the the hospital / medical center across the way and use theirs." She came back out and at this point, I stopped looking at information and said, "You've got to be kidding me? A visitor's center / chamber, and you won't allow a VISITOR (potential home buyer, community member, business owner) to use your restroom? "
It wasn't like he or I would be in there all day. Drank a lot of coffee and had to use the restroom. Not only, but I have a kidney disease and rather than tell a sob-story, I just tossed down the literature and we walked out shaking our head.
This doesn't begin to describe the lack of human compassion or kindness...it speaks volumes for the type of "community" this is. It's a restroom. We weren't homeless guys looking to bath in the sink or take up occupancy. It was a simple request.
If you are passing through this town, pass right on by. Don't stop. Why buy real estate, or open a business? Obviously if the Visitor's Center / Chamber cannot roll out a semi-red carpet for two professionals, who are interested in contributing to their community, would they be interested in you? Probably not.
Sure was a nice, pretty building though. I guess they can't be doing too poorly...
We won't stop next time we are coming through. Of course this means we would not shop at the grocery store, or grab a drink at Starbucks. If we take up residence down the highway, will not use their medical center. We "vote" with our dollars, and unfortunately for you, are voting you out.
Most certainly, will NOT develop any former interest in the town. What a rude, selfish and unkind experience.
