Let me tell you how that came about, The contractors who has what offices, both the Air Force and the Navy wanted the front. After several debates and some insults (all in good fun and the highest amount of respect) The Contractor said lets flip a coin. The Ranking Navy Recruiter pulled out his cell phone and made calls to get approval for the coin toss. Then the Contractor ax'd my if the Air Force had to make any calls. I said "No, I'm the Air Force in The Bronx and NYC and I make the decisions that affect this office. Needless to say the Air Force won the coin toss! What strikes me about this consulate is, how much it reminds me of a home. It's a very homey feel. You have to press the buzzer and they'll open the door for you, you'll be the only one lounging on the sofa in what looks like a living room while you wait for a visa officer to see you, browsing through some interesting books on their bookshelf and admiring the tapestry work on the walls. Hell, they almost even offered me some tea. Just kidding. :) -Very easy, clean procedure -Cheap! Only 20 bucks -Quick as a wink: You go in- submit documents- they give you a little receipt - you go with the receipt a few days later to collect passport. Just spent two days in the Jury Room at 71 Thomas Street and it wasn't awful. It is very…read moreorganized and the staff knows what they are doing. The challenge is that a significant proportion of the public called to duty is either unable or unwilling to follow the simplest of instructions. Prepare to hear the most basic questions answered over and over again, because people show up an hour or two late, they don't pay attention and perhaps, just perhaps, they are really not too bright. The wi-fi was pretty strong when I was there and while in Room 100 waiting to be called for a panel, it was fairly pleasant. Chairs were comfortable and the restrooms were clean. We had plenty of breaks and if they weren't going to impanel some potential jurors, we got to go to lunch early! The voir dire process was a bit excruciating. That's where you really felt frightened for our civilization because the attorneys would ask the same question 15-20 times and then finally, 2 or 3 people would be like "Oh, yeah, that applies to me so I probably shouldn't participate". It was really something to see...but that is why it took a full day to go through the 36 people selected on my panel (only one of whom was selected for the jury). Anyway, I didn't get picked but after two days of service, I received my good conduct medal so I'm good for the next six years. I will say, if you're down there, stop by This is Gyro for lunch. I went there both days on my lunch break and the food was delicious! It's just a couple of blocks away on Church St.
