This is a great place to pick-up your seasonal Tennis Permit ($100) or Single Play Tickets ($7.00)…read moregood at all NYC Tennis Courts in all of the boroughs. This office is pretty easy to find, right inside of the old historical building INSIDE of Central Park, facing 5th at 64th Street. Yes the building with the plaques and the cannonballs over the doorway, fancy chandelier hanging in the lobby. Hang a right and go through the doorway downstairs to the basement, past the snack bar area and then go down the hallway to the left. The ticket window is right there. They take your picture and get your badge printed in a matter of mins.. and have all sorts of information to hand out such as a list of all the tennis courts in the greater city of new york! If you are planning on playing more than 14 times from April-November of 2010 then the season pass is the way to go...but note its not a 365 day pass...it is done no matter when you buy it by November of that year. If your crazy avid tennis player friend wants you to join them one weekend for a game, pay $7.00 for a one time ticket, see how you like it, then maybe take the plunge to invest in the season pass. Once you are a season pass member you can also call and reserve a court at a particular time slot in the bougie* 93rd & Central Park West Courts Facility. This location has over 30 courts and is the biggest in the city. However in order to reserve a court you need to purchase a court reservation ticket also... (another $7.00) They try to make it so difficult but once you get the hang of it you are good to go! *You may have seen these courts featured in the film The September Issue when LV decked head to toe.. Although applicants are not necessarily education majors, Teach For America's application process is rigid so that they get the best educators (Corps Members) for our nation's children. Additionally, they provide a summer Training Institute and a lot of support from Teach For America throughout their two-year commitment teaching in a low-income school. My roommate was a former Recruitment Fellow at Teach For America's National Office. After one year of recruitment, she applied to be a Corps Member (teacher), was accepted, and is now in her second year of teaching. She has had a very positive experience with Teach For America, both during her time as a Recruitment Fellow and as a Corp Member. Somewhere during my roommate's time at the National Office, I began temping at Teach For America. Several times a year, they need some extra hands for some high-volume projects, such as during the application process. I have had a tremendously positive experience there. The staff is great. They are really hard-working people who are all strongly committed to fighting educational inequity through this program that ensures: "One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education." The parking situation is the only down side, and can be confusing if you're not from the area. You have to pull into the shopping center (or strip mall; I'm not sure which it would "technically" qualify as), travel 1-way past the Dunkin Donuts (used to be a Boston Market) and a few other stores, and then pull into whatever available space you can find. Pulling in isn't so much the problem as backing out, as the cars that are coming in tend to do so at a high rate of speed. Then again, I've become a timid driver in my old age. Sometimes I'll park on the less crowded side of the (small) shopping center in order to avoid that potential hazardous pitfall. Pulling back out onto Springfield Ave. can be a pain in the neck too. You can only pull out in one direction, which is not the direction that takes me home. A relatively minor annoyance, though, when I consider how quickly and painlessly I'm able to buy my postage stamps. And, on a side note, whatever happened to the Wanted posters that used to hang from post office walls? I never recognized any of the thugs, desperadoes, terrorists, bank robbers or felonious maniacs pictured on them, but I always derived a certain morbid entertainment value from perusing them. I guess "America's Most Wanted" on TV made them obsolete? Inquiring minds want to know... If I happen to be in the area, this is the post office I prefer to patronize. I can't speak for their mail delivery, or how adeptly they handle incoming packages, or how well they process money orders, etc. But if you're interested only in buying stamps, this place is very highly recommended.
