Why isn't there a "no star" option?
I'm shocked this place is still in business as I just came across my invoice from US Engines.
I bought a "longblock" engine 10 yrs ago from US engines to "upgrade" my tired old 330hp 454 mercruiser engine and it was a nightmare.
Took forever to get it, than came with zero paperwork. Nothing about the "7 year warranty" that was advertised.
Had it professionally installed and it ran maybe 2 miles before a rocker arm broke and 2 others came flying off when the nuts came off.
Called for this amazing 7 year warranty, talked to a few "Mike's" (Could never get a last name..,, There was Mike C and I think Mike A) and they told my mechanic they used old rocker arm nuts "because there just aren't good ones on the market anymore".
My mechanic buddy still jokes about this on a regular basis wondering how Chevy ,Ford, etc are getting by on their new rocker nuts?!?!
Anyways after being towed home we fixed it ourselves and than had to fight to get my $500 core and none of the Mikes wouldn't return my calls or emails regarding my core $$.
Finally a friend who does professional cold calls said he would hassle them to the ends of the earth with numerous phone calls a day to get my core charge back and they finally told him my head and block were cracked and to go ahead and get a lawyer to fight the $500 core they refused to pay (I didn't send them a blown up engine.)
The worst thing was the "upgraded 400hp engine" was weaker and slower than the 20 yr old tired 330hp engine I was "upgrading" and one of the Mikes kept telling us to get a 9/16 wrench and tighten the intake manifold bolts and kept saying "horsepower doesn't matter so much in a boat, it's the torque".
Well a new 400 hp engine should be much stronger than a 330hp with 2000 hours on it.
My buddy who installed it said the only thing "400" about the new engine was the orange crayon saying "400hp" written on the block. He figures it was a base 300 to 330 hp 454.
It did seem odd that they had no "400hp engines" and were "extremely backordered" but the salesman Mike suddenly found one "on the shelf" the next day.
When it first broke down the nice sales Mike said they would help with labor and parts than got passed to the prick Mike who liked the old rocker nuts and argued with my mechanic on the phone.
The worst I've ever been burned in my life and lots of hard feelings to this day...
If they want to dispute any of this I still have all the email correspondence when they actually (rarely)responded. read more
