OMG OMG OMG literally the best sushi of my life...in Italy!…read more First saw this place upon entering Amalfi after walking through the pedestrian tunnel from Atrani. I thought Japanese fusion was definitely odd for the area, but we figured why not and gave it a try. Best decision ever. It's pretty reasonable in prices, especially for the fresh quality of the food. The place is very cute and low-lit - perfect for a date night. Starters: miso soup Entrees: 4 rolls of uramaki sushi (dragon roll, tuna with amalfi lemon zest, shrimp tempura/kiwi, and another with tuna/philly cream cheese/potato chip) Desserts: oreo cheesecake in a jar WOW. I was absolutely blown out of the water by this sushi. All of the fish was incredibly fresh and the toppings were so unique. Plus, the rolls were executed flawlessly. We both agreed, however, that the philly cream cheese/potato chip one was the best. The potato chip was HOMEMADE - like each roll had an individually golden fried chip on top. The combination of salty, crunchy and creamy was to-die-for. The miso soup was really good, as were those addicting cheesecakes in jars. After we left, we were so mad we didn't order 1 or 2 more rolls of sushi, they were that good. I will forever reminisce about this sushi and hold all other sushi to this standard.

It's off the Main Street and was away from the crowds and noise of all the tourists. The staff were super nice and greeted us right away. We ordered 4 different rolls and all of them were fantastic. Definitely would recommend.

I would not recommend this place! In fact, for the money we spent I should not have left this place…read moreas angry as I am. The service is terrible--we waited almost a full hour for the raw appetizer for two. Then another 30 min+ for porcini pasta and grilled shrimp. The dishes were ok but nothing special, to be honest. The raw fish was fresh, which was nice, but the terrible service ruined the experience enough that the rest felt insignificant. Additionally, the oysters were not great, not at all briny and a little on the chewy side. The shrimp were the best part of the crudo dish (which was €50). The porcini pasta was good, but not quite as good as other pasta I've had in Napoli. The grilled shrimp were as expected, but a very tiny portion. I will not be coming back and I will recommend others to avoid this place. Not to mention we made a reservation days in advance to secure our spot and were placed in a corner inside immediately in front of the blasting AC. Let's talk about dessert, an order of panna cotta and double macchiato should be hard to mess up--alas they did--they brought single espresso without milk, and the Panna Cotta was terrible. Extremely firm and with a greasy flavor. If you want a nice evening don't go here. I highly recommend these as alternatives: Biancomangiare or Osteria Da Antonio. The former makes you feel like you're at a Neapolitan nonna's dinner table--delicious fresh food with personable and exemplary service; while the later has fresh seafood, very well prepared and with excellent portion sizes, great service, and personal touches. In case it seems that ours was a uniquely terrible experience--the Italian family at the table next to ours also looked very frustrated. Also, it is worth mentioning that smiles and laughter were not seen or heard anywhere in the busy restaurant except the large table in the back who had 4 waiters and the owner running back and forth to them constantly--must have been friends of the owner. We left the restaurant very angry and upset.

It is one of the most beautiful properties I have seen - every nook and corner was filled with bougainvilleas and lemon plants. It is the definition of an instagram heaven. For food, we got the positano style ravioli, sea bass fillet with creamed potatoes, pistachios and prawns and for drinks we got a couple piña coladas. The small portion sizes were expected for an upscale place like this. I don't think the food was memorable and it wasn't something I would go back for. However, I would still go back in a heartbeat just for the view and the atmosphere.

Glad I did cause it had options I like. (calamari, french fries, fried mozzarella balls)! (And for travelers, be forewarned. When they say calamari it's full on tentacle and the other pieces. So if you're expecting just circular pieces, don't.) I love each individually and got all in one place! They should put it on the menu permanently. There are a couple stools and tables to sit outside. The ladies serving me were nice and funny. I had to give it 3 stars cause the calamari wasn't very hot and the mozzarella balls were just that, mozzarella balls where they were fried but they weren't hot and the ball didn't melt at all. Only the outside seemed to be cooked perfectly. Besides the fries, which were great, everything else was just kinda luke-warm. All in all it wasn't bad and I'd probably try other ones if I was there. There were 5 other people that were eating there and they all seemed to really love what they were having! It's kinda off the beaten path (you have to take the path to Piazza dei Dogi to get to it). There is another place in Piazza Duomo that people went to but I don't recall seeing as many options.

Our servers didn't speak much English so I felt like that was a good sign that a lot more locals frequent this place than tourists. We are crazy about that fresh buffalo mozzarella. We ordered a 6 euro bottle of their house white wine which was actually really good. We were given some bread which was excellent as well. For our entrees I had a seafood spaghetti which had clams, mussels, and shrimp, if I recall correctly. My husband ordered a seafood pasta as well. Also great. **Beautiful Views, but a Very Disappointing Dining Experience**…read more Il Capitano has a breathtaking view and a beautiful setting, but unfortunately, our dining experience was extremely disappointing. We had a reservation for 6:00 PM, and three of the five people in our group ordered sea bass. We were told that the restaurant had run out. The waitress then strongly recommended another type of fish. When we asked what kind of fish it was, she couldn't tell us the name but assured us that it was even better than sea bass and would cost less. Unfortunately, the fish we were served was very disappointing. Its texture was completely different from sea bass, and we did not enjoy it. Even more frustrating, we were charged significantly more than we had been led to expect, rather than less as promised. When we were leaving, we informed the host that we had not enjoyed our dinner. Instead of addressing our concerns about the food and the unexpected price, he asked us about the lemon shots. We had not been offered any. In our experience, these complimentary lemon shots are a customary gesture at restaurants in the area, making the question even more surprising. While the view and ambiance are lovely, they cannot make up for disappointing food, a lack of transparency about what is being served, and unexpected charges. We left feeling let down and would have expected much better service and communication from a restaurant in such a beautiful location.
