We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

He set expectations well and said he couldn't be 100% certain, but he would start with the least invasive solution, order the part, and we could schedule the actual repair when the part arrived. He also let me know what I needed to do to prep for the future repair, which was helpful. I was contacted to schedule repair when the part arrived a few weeks later. Jake arrived promptly at the scheduled window, shut off my water supply for me, replaced the part, and set expectations that I could possibly see the issue again because without going more invasive, it's not entirely possible to determine the root cause, which made sense for a plumbing issue. He was clean, finished in less than an hour, and also sent pictures of the WIP while he was repairing. I appreciated the promptness, professionalism, and transparency.

Would recommend Jake for anyone needing furniture installation that requires some real muscle and precision. We'd call on him again for future fixes.

I submitted a project through Yelp to wall-mount a Swedish ladder, and Bay Assembly reached out to…read moreme first. My Yelp profile clearly shows my name and photo, so the claim that they had no way of knowing my gender isn't believable. They quoted me $575 for assembly and mounting, with me providing all the materials. When I said it was too high, they said they'd like to lower the price but $200 was too low for assembly and mounting. So I offered to assemble the ladder myself and only needed the mounting service. Instead of giving a new quote, the reply was: "If you think it's easy, you should do it yourself and save the money. Good luck with that." This wasn't a disagreement about price. They brought up lowering the price themselves, and when I reduced the scope of the job, they responded with sarcasm instead of a quote. For context, I've assembled all the furniture in my home myself, including a solid wood bed frame, solid wood electric adjustable standing desks, and 5-drawer solid wood dressers, etc. Other providers quoted around $400-475 for full assembly and mounting, and when I said I'd assemble it myself, they quoted $180-200 for mounting only. That's the normal way to handle it. Overpriced and unprofessional. It honestly felt like they saw I was a woman and assumed I didn't know anything, so they tried to overcharge me.

This is a detailed review of our experience in the entire kitchen upgrade project from start to…read morefinish. We wanted to do a facelift of our old outdated kitchen without breaking the bank, with new cabinets and countertop. Being well aware of high cost of everything in San Francisco, and our house an old 1980's construction, we had a tough job of keeping the project within affordable budget. For the project, we started by first finding a cabinetry place. We went with Timeless Kitchen, as they have good quality mid-price semi-custom cabinetry and they also have design service. The cabinets usually take 6-8 weeks to arrive. The next step was to find someone to do the cabinets installation. This was the craziest, I called almost every kitchen contractor in SF. Many came home to look at the project, then provided ridiculous quotes. Also many were being pushy to make us do additional work like flooring, changing electricity, plumbing, etc, which could easily double the cost! We were so discouraged that we almost gave up on the idea of this kitchen project, seemed like we would ever be able to afford in this city this lifetime. Finally after persistent research we found Bay Install, through Yelp. David, owner of Bay Install came by and gave a reasonable quote for the work we were looking at. He is straightforward and honest, wont spare time in small talks. His initial upfront estimate included costs of demolition and dumping fee of old cabinets, cabinets and countertop installation, hood and lights installation, hooking of plumbing and dishwasher. He also called out during initial quote itself that there would be a small additional cost for materials and if any surprise comes up. David was always responsive on phone or text for all our queries. This was our first home renovation project and we went with David with all our heart. The project took 3 weeks from start to finish. Here i am breaking down the steps. For the cabinets delivery needed coordinations between David and the cabinetry company which went smooth. He was informed of the exact date and time of the cabinet delivery. Based on the confirmed date, he started the demolition work 2 days prior. At this point he demolished and hauled the existing cabinets and sink, uninstalled all appliances - sink, diswasher, stove, exhaust fan, then prepped up the plumbing, electrical and patched the walls before the new installation starts. On day of cabinet delivery David ensured to be present on the venue to confirm everything was delivered correctly without any damage. Next day he started to systematically install the new cabinets. At this stage he showed exemplary skill. Our house being really old 1980's, he was challenged with tricky problems like walls and floors not level or the roof being too low, so he had to figure how to adjust height of cabinets without being noticeable. David took his time to work around those issues, and showed his highest skill and experience. Meantime, we had to choose our countertop stone. We checked out many places around the Bay area like and finally we chose beautiful textured natural Quartzite stone slabs from Artistic Stone Kitchen & Bath. They reserved and held the slabs at the store till the day of installation. On the day of countertop installation, David himself picked up the slabs from the store early morning. He has a countertop installation team who came in at noon, they cut and honed the slabs at our site and quickly installed the countertops. The countertops were installed within half a day. We are very happy with the outcome. The joins of the slabs look seamless. We also had a piece of slab installed as the stove backsplash which looks gorgeous. David completed the fine finishing of the kitchen with attention to every detail. Every gap is patched with fillers, installation of the new farmhouse sink, under cabinet lighting, re-plumbing the sink and dishwasher, hardware installation on drawers was all perfection. David is a man of few words, he likes to carefully work on all details taking time, he is skillful and will make any challenge work, he is sincere and honest with his work, takes great pride in the outcome of his work. We were very surprised by how he would tidy up the space at the end of each day.. very rare to see such details. We are extremely happy with how our old kitchen turned out and all thanks to David to making our dream a reality. Can't stress enough how lucky we were to find David!

I used Yelp to send a project to five companies that stated the nature of the problem and photos of the damage, and for those that responded within 24-hours, I asked specifically how they were going to repair the door frame. The cheapest quote stated that he would push in the damaged frame and glue it in place. Next . . . The most expensive quoted $150 an hour, plus materials. They stated that the entire door frame needed to be changed. Hmm. Maybe . . . The second lowest quote was by the Be James Team. They stated that their rate was $99 an hour (minimum two hours, but this project took longer), plus materials. Based on the photos they recommend a partial replacement of the door frame. They had a next-day opening in their schedule, and sent two technicians to the condo. The inspection revealed that this particular frame was problematic due to the construction and materials used, and replacement would be a two-day job. After a discussion with me stating that the time and cost of replacing the entire frame or even one side would be astronomical, they decided to replace a portion of the frame around the shattered door jam area, and then reinforce the side - a cheaper, but still a strong option. Six hours later, a single technician completed the job. The frame looks like new, complete with matching paint. The technician also cleaned the area of dust and debris. I am happy with the results. Thanks to technician Roland for his hard work.
