Frustrating experience with Juliano's installation and service in regards to originally installed…read morepool lights. Three seasons in, a pool light fails - ok, not happy, but whatever. Pay my $1,200 to replace. Soon after, another, and then quickly after that the third fails. Seems like a problem. Communicate with "service" manager who says "out of warranty", so sad, too bad ! Could not even admit to a problem that THREE, (all), lights failed after approx 2,000 hrs of use when they are expected to last over 50,000 ! I did get a free 2nd light, (I paid labor), and discounted the third with a promise that the owner would contact Haywood, (light manufacturer), after I pay my bill. I am still out approx. $2,000 to replace lights that WAY underperformed, with NO admission of a problem, (lights or install - either way, how about some responsibility). I chose Juliano's as their reputation for quality was unsurpassed... I am now concerned their obsession with revenue outweighs "standing behind their work". We paid more for quality, (I CERTAINLY could have found less expensive builder), with the expectation that they truly would partner with me on any reasonable issues. I am now afraid to use my pool lights ... another $3,500 in a few more years, and then again every 3 in perpetuity? ... it seems the service manager feels this is normal wear and is unconcerned, as it is "out of manufacturer warranty". Juliano's focus on revenue and responsibility avoidance makes me question my judgement. I have a nice pool that I dropped almost 6 figures into install with promises of integrity, quality, and service. This experience has left me frustrated and looking for other service providers.

Canton Parks & Recreation runs Mills Pond Pool located in Mills Pond Park. There is a 50-meter…read morepool, wading pool, and a brand new splash pad. Before entering the pool area, a fee must be paid. There are options to purchase a pool membership or pay a daily drop in fee; drop in fee is $5 for residents and $7 for non residents. You can bring your own chair/blanket to setup on the grassy area. There are drinks and snacks at the concession stand for a fee. They also offer swim lessons. The splash pad is small and simple, coming from Florida we had so many large and elaborate splash pads that were free. I know that this is New England and splash pads aren't a year-round thing so it doesn't have to be free or elaborate but since I was spoiled, I had to deduct a star for that reason. The pools were large and clean and there were plenty of amenities in the park. There is a free playground, skatepark, tennis courts, ball field, basketball courts, and picnic pavilions. Parking is ample.

Mercury Swim Institute was recommended by a friend as things to do with a two year old. We wanted…read moreto get him swim lessons, but hated the high amount of chlorine public pools have. Mercury Swim is a heated indoor salt water pool, they still use chlorine, but it's minimal. We were very excited to check it out. We called and signed up for a weekend time slot. It's local, and easy to find right off Allen St. in Hampden. It's been around for over 50 years and probably hasn't changed much in that whole time. It's in the back of a house, with plenty of parking. We were even more excited that we didn't have to get in the pool. The teachers take the children, so the adults can chill out, and take pics. My son loved his first time there. He seemed to learn more in one hour there, than any other attempts at swimming. It's $20 cash or check per hour. It seemed like a lot, but then I seen he received almost total one on one attention. It will be great for the winter, when he's stuck in the house, and can look forward to swimming each week. Linda, the swim teacher is great with young kids. You can tell she's been doing this along time. She's very patient, and doesn't get stressed out. She knows how to divert a crying kid, and other ways to get them to do stuff when they won't.

A friend of mine had mentioned a splash pad opened recently in Broad brook, so I hunted it down! To my surprise, there is a clean looking swimming pond with a cute red slide into the water from the raft out there. Bonus! I was not equipped to swim myself today so we made our way over to the splash pad. It is on the smaller side but new, in great shape and not busy at all. There are a few benches for adults to sit nearby while the kids play. I also noted open pavilions with picnic tables and a small playground. Definitely worth a trip for small kids on a hot day. Low key. Note: there is a small fee for non town residents

There is an interclub swim team and tennis teams in summer. Great instructors. We have spent the past two summers here and love it. My kids are learning tennis and love swimming with their friends in this safe and friendly environment. Next door to the Hill-Stead museum, it is considered the gem of Farmington. And we have made so many good family friends there. I cannot recommend it enough.

Oh no, we were there to check out the sixty-five home repair and maintenance exhibitors at the Hartford Home Show. The exhibitors represented a very wide cross section of things a homeowner has to deal with. Want some examples? Of course you do. Here's a few samples of the vendor categories (and you might want to take a deep breath before you read this). Oakwood Sports Center really is quite an impressive facility.
