In 2014, I purchased a pre-war craftsman home. The home sits on a rare double lot. The property was littered with rocks that are part of what was a stone 1800's driveway from when the neighborhood was one estate. It was very important to me to preserve the history of the property while creating a lush garden and urban oasis. I interviewed several landscape design/installation companies. I ended up going with URBN as their plan was the most beautiful and most resourceful.
Evan and his team got to work, digging up all the stones from the property and sorting them based on their size. From there they used the largest stones to expand the patio and walkways. The smaller stones/rocks were used to convert a hill into a large retaining wall with built in grill that would allow for two separate entertaining areas in the garden.
Once the hardscaping was complete, they finished moving around some soil, planted a combination of annuals and perennials, shaped up the existing landscaping and Boom the reveal is worth a thousand words.
Throughout the entire process they were respectful, professional and did everything they said they world. While its hard to say exactly how much curb appeal increased the value of the property, I would estimate to say the $12,500 that was spent increased the value of the property by $25,000-$40,000. We already had budgeted a 7-foot tree into the budget, when Evan noticed an Oak tree growing in some shrubs (that had repeatedly been cut back), if you are looking at the image it's the tree above the grill. (This saved us an additional $500 on the project)
The project was perfect. The garden blends seamlessly with the home and the carriage house.
Evan is ultra-creative, resourceful and has an amazing work ethic.
