I woke up on a Saturday morning with a terrible migraine--starting in my back, shoulder, and neck, traveling up the back of my head and settling behind my eyes. I knew exactly what it was from: too much time working on the computer. While I know bodywork should be preventative (and not just pain-response care), this was one of those mornings where I truly needed relief. I searched online for massage therapy near me and was able to book a 9:00 a.m. appointment around 8:00 a.m. I arrived right at 9, and parking was easy on the street in Ohio City. Walking into Urban Haven immediately shifted my energy. The space is tranquil and beautifully curated, complete with a waterfall and a warm, welcoming receptionist. She brought me upstairs to the spa area, made me tea, and invited me to sit and relax. There was so much to take in--the thoughtful design, the calm atmosphere, the view of Ohio City from the windows. I picked up a book about Cleveland then and now and found myself completely absorbed, especially as someone new to the area. After about 15 minutes, I realized my therapist may not have received the booking in time--which I fully understood given how close to the appointment I had scheduled online. I went back downstairs and mentioned the wait, acknowledging the short booking window. The receptionist was kind and apologetic, and she showed me a CBD salve that could help with migraines, which I appreciated. Then Jafar walked in. She asked if he had a half hour available, and he said yes. While I usually book with a female therapist, I was open--and it turned out to be exactly who I was meant to work with. Jafar is not just a massage therapist--he is a true body worker and healer. Present, intuitive, and deeply skilled. The massage was focused, intentional, and exactly what my body needed. It wasn't meant to be relaxing--I was in real pain--but it was incredibly effective. He worked deeply, loosened tension, and helped restore balance where I needed it most. I left knowing I need to make bodywork a regular practice and that I will absolutely be back to see Jafar. Even with the initial wait, the experience unfolded exactly as it was meant to. Went for the second time today. The space is really cute and vibey and the staff are all great. I tried a new masseuse today who was pretty good. The issue was that the room was freezing cold, making it really hard to relax or get comfortable . I could also hear everyy single word of the conversation being had in the room next door, making it REALLY hard to relax. (This is for the new Lee St. location) You know when you ponder too long about that self-care massage and then by the time you convince yourself "just do it girl!" you're scrambling to find a place? That was me and my partner as we woke up on a Saturday with sore bodies and determination. Cue Urban Haven! We were staying at an Airbnb closer to the 25th location, but they had a last minute spot for a couples massage at the new Lee location. So we washed Friday night off our eyes, threw on some clothes and rushed over and so thankful we did! I had Olivia and she was amazing! Her pressure, flow, ability to read my body 10/10. I get massages 1-2xs a month, and have had them all over the world, so you can trust when I give a raving review. (I know, I know...I just want to give y'all context). My girlfriend had Melissa and she was great too! I know she did more energy and craniosacral techniques and left my hip hurting honey feeling refreshed and new as we both left Urban Haven with smiling faces, relaxed bodies, and gratitude. The space was new and clean-in fact, we were there the first day they opened. The rest of the staff was lovely as well. "Yeah, but what could we do differently?" Well...The one thing I would note as something to think about are after treatment hugs. I'm a mental health therapist myself and so I'm pretty particular about professional boundaries. I understand when clients initiate a hugs and how it's up to therapeutic discretion as to whether or not it's appropriate. Melissa commented on my partner's good energy and hugged her twice. (Note: while the therapist initiated the hugs, they were caring, not creepy, so that is not at all the point I'm making). While we are both big huggers, I find this to be a a grey area in the massage world and a slippery slope as we like to say in the therapy world. Saying "you had great energy" would have sufficed. At this point I was uncomfortable and I felt compelled to hug my massage therapist-who deserves all the hugs, but again, I like to keep therapeutic boundaries. My partner views these things very differently, so her interpretation is far from mine. She's also in a fragile state as both her parents suddenly passed away in the past 6 months and we are in town for her father's memorial. Just something to consider as you never know who your clients are, what emotional spaces they are in and what lines may be blurred. All that said, when these Cali gals come back to visit the fam, we'll be visiting the spa again too! read more

Urban Haven Wellness is literally one of my favorite places to visit for self care. Located in lovely Ohio City. They offer memberships which I find beneficial to taking full advantage of a discount. I truly look forward to my once a month visits. I lead a very hectic and busy lifestyle. The moment you walk in, it's like an oasis. The stress just melts away. The decor is so welcoming and relaxing. It's a female owned business, major plus in my world. The owner takes plenty of care in hiring the perfect staff. I've had massages from multiple therapists and every single one has been top tier. Grace, Lisa and Jasmine are my favorites. They always take care in asking about injuries and pressure. They have a cold plunge and sauna which I do prior to and after my massage. I suffer from lots of sports injuries and migraines. The entire experience is super beneficial to my body. Yoga classes are also offered. I've done a couple drop ins via ClassPass. Instructors Brittany and Arden were great. I did not like my experience here at all. We were looking for a couple thai massage for my partners birthday and called this place to set up an appointment. 1st off my Massage therapist had an amazing energy and she was very kind. So I would like to lead with that. Upon arrival we were offered a plethra of drinks to purchase. All cold Beverages which when we asked for hot tea we were told they do not have any. And then proceeded to try to upsell us on another cold beverage. She literally went through the whole list after we told her We were only interested in a hot beverage. Great start to our Relaxing get away, right? We were walked to a room that looks like an exercise room with random equipment in it. We were not given a change of clothing ( Which for a traditional Thai massage you are given a loose pair of pants and top ), there was no calming music and it was a bit bright in the room. Not relaxing at all. As we lay down on these mats in this random room. We were not asked any questions at all prior to our massage. Nothing about injuries or pain levels or anything. RED FLAG. I have had 5 knee surgeries and had to relearn to walk so I have current knee issues That I would have wanted to talk to my therapist about. But the time started when they entered the room and we just started anyway. Once the Massage started I wasn't given a towel to go over my eyes or anything. So i'm just staring at my massage Therapist sitting on me because we started face up. My massage therapist was over 175lbs. She did not ask me if her weight was ok, and she sat in places that put extreme pressure on my Abdomen and knee/hip. I was extremely uncomfortable. The way my arms were being pulled as well was in the wrong way and it hurt, so I just asked her to stop and rub my shoulders. She is blind And had such a sweet demeanor and I didn't want to be rude. I sat there in discomfort until it ended and I believe she felt how much I did not enjoy it. Now I get a thai massage once a month for the past six years to aid with a injury. Maybe because I am not currently in ohio that this is a standard now in Cleveland. But trust me this is an overpriced, upselling experience. When the massage was over we were not offered any hot tea which is another big red flag and a indicator that there is no real space of understanding for a traditional thai massage. Maybe just the training. Thai massages are supposed to be a very connected and healing experience. Lastly, I told the woman that I did not enjoy my Massage When we went to pay and she said nothing. But, she did say " how would you like to pay". She made me feel guilty for not wanting to TIP By Repetitively Asking me "Am I not going to leave a tip"?? I repeated myself and I said I did not enjoy my massage at all and I did not want to tip. The Massage ended up being at $248. I typically always tip but I genuinely just did not enjoy this experience at all And felt as if it was a total waste of my money and time. My partner hated the experience as well but just have the lady a $20. She then asked "is this for both or .....? I was over it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more
