Yes I've been there twice now. Two weekends in a row around 8am. Both with friends and all trying something different from the menu. Everyone had only positive things to say, except maybe the portions were large and they shouldn't have eaten it all. If you're going for breakfast they are not going to have your typical breakfast foods. But who doesn't love a lunch style menu for breakfast. Regardless, you'll have trouble deciding what to have. It's an eclectic menu and if you prefer something on the lighter side there is a bakery onsite as well. I was told the chef likes to play around when I asked about a particular biscuit/cookie. Think red velvet biscuit with marshmallow inside. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving recommendations with regard to what might satisfy your craving when you've narrowed your decision down to two. For my part there were a lot of meals with eggs which I'm very fussy about so typically just don't choose it (makes sense ). But there were a couple I just really want to try next time and was told some accommodation could be made. Having said that the ingredients in each meal are so well thought out I would really not want to change things up. Unless it was to maybe ask for the egg on the side. Will I be back. Yes definitely, even if just for a coffee and pastry. I will try to not be so excited to eat and even take some photos.

We didn't booked, because it was a rainy Saturday, surely, most people are still in their cosy warm beds. We put our name on the wait-list when we arrived. It wasn't too long before we were shown to a table. Tick! We promptly placed our orders and sat back to chat, enjoying the buzz in the space. Interiors was clean, simple and homely. We liked that. Front of house was staffed by a young team. Most of the staff was friendly enough, but looked to be under the pump and it showed on their faces. However, a couple of the girls looked disinterested and lacked a smile, which is very important in a customer service-oriented industry. My girlfriend ordered a coffee and it arrived in a timely manner. We thought, this is a good sign, perhaps the food would soon follow, as they seemed to be an efficient team. Two tables arrived, we peeked and saw that they ordered similar dishes to ours. We got excited, thinking we would be next. Nope! 40 minutes passed with one waiter reassuring us that our food is only, but minutes away. We accepted their response and continued to wait patiently. Our food finally arrived after we enquired about it again. With a rushed apology, she set down our food and vanished. We enjoyed the food, it was very well presented and was super tasty. When we finished, our plates was immediately cleared away and we were asked if we wanted more coffees. All this happened while we were in deep conversation. After refusing further coffees, we were handed the bill without asking for it. This is a very rude thing to do, as the establishment is implying that we need to move on. As a person with a massive hospitality background, this is a big no-no in the industry. It is rude and leaves a sour taste in the customer's mouth despite the beautiful food. I cannot recommend this space, as they need to life their game with it comes to customer service. Food wise, not much to fault from my one meal. I later found out that my girlfriend frequent this place often and every time her servings have been bigger for the same dish.

During the week Blue Poppy offers the usual range of espresso-based coffees and teas, as well as a number of juices (and poppers!), pre-packed sandwiches and usual café fair that is thick cut banana bread and other small sweets. During the week only pre-prepared food is available, though they do offer a cooked breakfast on weekends. The banana bread that I had was nicely toasted, and pretty thick given the price. The coffee, made from di Bella beans, is excellently pulled. There is no bitterness in the espresso and the beans are well balanced. If you can get in between 7.30-8.30am, the coffee comes in at an astounding $2 for the regular (single shot) size. Cold pressed iced coffees and iced chocolates are also available in the fridge. The place has a warm suburban feel, and the staff are exceedingly friendly. Despite being staffed by a single person, the service is prompt and quick. Dog friendly, though the dogs are kept outside.

Yep, Eugene (one half of the Campos Brisbane duo) has created something here with his new venture, The Baker's Arms. It's on trend, accessible and a fresh life in a fickle strip of eateries. Sporting a vast array of freshly baked goods that vary daily, it certainly fills a certain void in the area. The feature point leather-wrapped espresso machine, tiled counter, coffee bean sack wall and exposed brickwork from the factory that was previously on the site, all add to the curiosity and inviting nature of the bakehouse. There is no food menu as the dishes change daily and choices are made off what it available in the glass displays cabinets. Options typically include sandwiches, wraps, pies, pasties, sausage rolls and salads. There is also a selection of cakes and pastries for the sweet tooths. Lunch on this visit was a curried lamb pie, a beef sausage roll and an orange and pear juice. Served with a side of salad in cute metal school camp-style plates, the pastry on the pie and sausage roll instantly highlighted their freshly baked nature. Flakey and crunchy in the outside, slightly soft on the inside, it was perfection. The juice was also freshly squeezed and served in a quaint glass jar. Tucked away in the Logan Road precinct of Woollongabba, The Baker's Arms is a must visit for those in search of some fine baking.

And so, following a conversation with this friend, off I went to taste the brew being poured at this Norman Park cafe. I arrived at around 11 and there were a few customers about - two women who I'm guessing had just finished a flex yoga class next door, two mothers catching up and general cafe goers. It was a calm atmosphere even with the air-con technicians attending to the cafe's unit. The space itself is light and breezy. My latte is solid. It's not distinctly any particular blend but it's just a darn good coffee. My friend was right. I also ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough. The bread was fresh and soft - easy to eat delicately and I liked that the avocado came separate to the toast so I could put as little or as much on as I liked. I imagine that locals are loving having this kind of cafe in their hood. And while I won't necessarily drive here specifically for coffee again, if I find myself in this area, I know I have a solid option up my sleeve for a strong coffee.

Since then they have had culinary mastermind Tim Dorman effectively utilise the tiny kitchen space to generate meals that are significantly higher quality and absolutely more creative than the standard "bacon, eggs and sourdough" cafes. Unashamedly using a wide variety of flavours borrowed from other cultures around the world (think labne, sagnaki, chipotle and kasundi) you'll end up coming back for more. If you're still looking for bacon and eggs, try the BRAT (order extra sagnaki though!) which is the best breakfast sandwich in Brisbane. The coffee is some of the best in Brisbane but by god the most reliable any day of the week. It wins huge points with me for serving filter coffee with a proper breakfast menu too.

Most of the menu was unavailable and the chef and waitress having a massive argument in the kitchen for everyone to see, before the waitress stormed off. Not surprisingly, the venue closed a few weeks later. Their loss is our gain as The Catbird Seat moved in. Just opposite the Aussie Nash and The Gabba, they are literally in the Catbird Seat.* It's a lovely little bistro with a simple fitout of warm wood, elegant Art Deco lighting and an open kitchen and not an argument to be seen. We were there for the month long World Safari Dinner offer of a shared classic French meal and a glass of wine for $30 per head. I told myself that I would be have been fine if the dish of the week turned out to be Cassoulet, but was secretly thrilled when we were told it was Duck a l'Orange with an accompanying French pinot. I know what you're thinking. 'Duck a l'Orange. How 1970s can you get?' I'm here to tell you that your thinking is wrong. This segmented duck in a simple orange glaze was at once both sweet and savoury and packed with umami. The meat was tender and the skin crisp. Perfect! Accompaniments of simple green beans, duck fat potatoes (someone had to do it) and a scattering of spiced pecans completed the meal. There was not a skerrick left. A whole duck should have been more than enough but of course, it wasn't. Rounding out the evening, we selected from the small ala carte menu a cheese plate with house pickles and Black Forrest crème brulee. The brulee was a surprise. Deep, dark chocolate with a crisp burnt sugar top and a thin layer of sour cherry sauce underneath, it was a very grown up dessert that suited sharing. There may have also been some Tawny but only one, you understand as it was a school night. But what a night! Between the subtle decor, discreet but attentive service, flavoursome meals and competitive pricing, I can certainly see why The Catbird Seat recently received a 'Hat' at the Good Food Awards. *'The catbird seat' is a phrase used to describe an enviable position or advantage

It has the look and feel of a cozy intimate french bistro which took me back to Rheims, France, where I could take my time & enjoy an amazing lunch. I was salivating looking through the menu as everything sounded gorgeous. "I could eat everything" I thought. Entrees start from $12 & mains from $28. I began with a long macchiato, so I could look through the menu a little longer. Coffee is from "Cup coffee", in Woolloongabba. It was the perfect tonic to give me a pick-me-up. The sound of pan roasted Blue Salmon $25 (the day's special) with warm salad of crisp potatoes, rocket, streaky bacon & horseradish dressing, was music to my belly, so went with it. Absolutely to die for! The fish was cooked to perfection, so much flavour on one plate, especially the horseradish dressing. Dessert being a separate stomach, I deserved a treat, & ordered the dark chocolate pudding with winter berries & mascarpone. Made to order taking 15 minutes to prepare, this bowl of chocolate pudding happiness, is made with love. On a cold winter's day, it was warm & decadently divine. The Catbird Seat Bistro is an impressive bistro. Lunch time specials change regularly. They support & buy local produce, & their fish fresh from the markets each morning. There's a great looking range of Australian & European wines, champagnes, as well as a selection of cheeses, & tempting cocktail list. They do breakfast on the weekends with all day breakfast on Sundays with fresh juices, loose leaf tea & Coffee. Chef & owner, James Guldberg is classically trained in French cuisine but because of his Norwegian background, he brings a Scandinavian twist to his modern Australian Cuisine. 'The Catbird seat Bistro' Is definitely a place worth visiting. Looking forward to breakfast, of warm crepes with banana caramel & crème fraiche. Open daily except Mondays.
