On what became my year long quest for laser hair removal, Urban Body Laser was the only place professional enough to both respond to my initial inquiry AND actually follow up to schedule an appointment after the consultation. I'm glad it took so long to find a business willing to actually take my money and zap my hair follicles; all of the technicians at Urban Body Laser are actually certified (not sure by who, but still), and I learned that a lot of the things I was told elsewhere were completely untrue (such as needing to wax the area exactly 4 weeks prior). Had I known how simple the process is (all you have to do is shave the area the morning of your appointment; you can keep the area shaved all the time between appointments), I would have done it years ago. Urban Body Laser also has two types of machines, one of which actually works on lighter hair. I had my consultation and second appointment with Brandi and I highly recommend her. The missing star is from my first appointment with another technician who was a bit too pushy trying to up-sell me on aftercare products. They are certainly much pricier than the shady places I originally contacted, but there is always a special going on for first time customers (2 treatments for the price of one, or free underarms with bikini for example). They also offer a discount if you purchase several treatments in advance. Less than a week after my first appointment I received a $150 gift certificate for microdermabrasion in the mail as a thank you. read more

I received 6 to 7 laser hair removal treatments here. The results seem promising so far; much of my hair fell out after the first treatment and it grew extremely slowly after that. It has been several months and most of my hair have not returned. It does help that my skin is fair and my hair is dark and coarse. I have not experienced burns or anything of the sort. The technicians here seem knowledgeable, professional, and are very friendly. They offer you tea and make you feel incredibly welcome. The price of a single treatment is fairly high at UBL but the package price is comparable to that of other very reputable laser hair removal establishments. Well to start off all the girls who work here are amazing and so helpful! I had been waxing for years (12 years to be exact) and being biracial my Brazilian area was very coarse and caused major ingrown hairs. Since switching over to laser I have never been happier! I no longer experience ingrown hairs and my hair (what grows back) is very thin and takes forever ever to grow back after shaving. Came here 3 months ago and again a few days ago and I have always had a great experience with my laser treatments. I always come on time and they don't make me wait to see a tech. The laser treatments are a pinch and might be painful for some, but that's laser treatment across the board. Very unprofessional, she was trying to get me to buy a package of 12 laser hair removal sessions, it seemed all about money and not about my questions/concerns. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone who's looking for BBL or IPL treatments. , I bought two sessions of their BBL Treatment ,at the consulate , they recommended this treatment for me and they told me this treatment" FOR SURE" works for your skin condition ( melasma)" , but it made my brown spots 10x darker , they burned my skin. I waited two month hoping that the dark spots would fade as they told me , but unfortunately it did not , so I booked an appointment with a dermatologist in downtown , she said " BBL is not recommended for MELASMA " and it makes it worse !!!! DO NOT GO HERE! This company has terrible customer service and unclear communication. I booked a microneedling session. Firstly they failed to mention the cost of the numbing cream that I was supposed to use on my face before the procedure which was $50. When I spoke to the manager, Jeanine, about this she only offered me a discount of $10. Secondly, they provided me with a list of ingredients in products that I should not use on my face after treatment. This list does not say that I shouldn't use these products before treatment. I came in for my microneedling, covered my face in numbing cream and then the technician asked me what products I had been using. She went to look them up on her computer. She came back 20 minutes later to tell me that I couldn't have the microneedling done since I wasn't supposed to use the products I was using for up to 2 weeks prior to the treatment. She said that I could reschedule. I had to go home with a numb face that took 8 hours to wear off. I called to reschedule my appointment. The person I spoke to was Katie who told me to come in at 10 am. Even though she didn't tell me to come in earlier I figured I should probably come in 20 minute earlier to do the numbing cream however I checked their website and it said they didn't open until 10 am. I showed up at 10 am and called them from the parking lot to ask how long I should park my car. Katie said that I was supposed to be there at 9:40 and now my treatment time would be cut in half. I explained to her that the website said they don't open until 10 and she didn't tell me to come in earlier which is why I didn't come in in advance. She said that she would have her manager call me. The manager, Jeanine, called me and told me that I couldn't have the service done that day and I would have to reschedule. She wouldn't let me speak and continued to speak over me. When I asked her why she wouldn't let me speak, she said she didn't want to argue. I asked multiple times for higher management contact information but she kept saying that there isn't any. When I first experienced Urban Body they were very helpful. They explained what could be done for me and made me excited to get treatment. I got the "Guaranteed" hair removal that takes two years, treatment every few months. The first treatment made such a difference and throughout the process you could definitely see that there was a major difference. It fluctuated in results but never majorly and always for the better. On my last treatment they put me in the hands of a girl who didn't even know what I was getting done, i had to tell her what to do. They then thanked me for my business and told me that some hair will probably grow back but nothing significant. Within two week of my last treatment I could already tell something had gone horribly wrong. ALL of my hair from the VERY beginning had grown back and although thinner it was now longer and unsightly. I called Urban Body to explain my extreme disappointment and asked them if they could help me. I went in for a second consultation and the girl looking me over was surprised on how much hair had grown back and I could tell she know something definitely went wrong. However instead of giving me one last treatment free or even at a discount they just told me I need more treatment and will have to pay. The pain and process and money this cost I am extremely disappointed with my results and Urban Body's lack of responsibility in the fact that it did not work at all and it was supposed to be "Guaranteed" I would not recommend long-term processes at Urban Body ever. read more

The only complaint I have is that I found it hard to relax during my micro-derm as my technician was recommending products during the treatment. They introduced me to Colorescience which is amazing and I will be back to purchase the sunforgettable from them. When I started looking into getting laser hair removal, this was the first place that I went to and in a way, I'm glad because the staff was really friendly and the atmosphere is very spa-like but I wouldn't go here again because it is too expensive!! I am a student, and with a "student discount" I ended up paying way more than expected (and later found out I could've gone somewhere else for way less -.-) for two sessions... And when I started talking to my friends about other places I found out that other places charge way less for the same job... I mean, if you have the money then by all means, definitely check them out, the staff is super friendly and the ambience is very spa-like - but if you're looking to get lasered and you don't want to spend that much then definitely check out some other places because I do feel that they try to sell a lot of other beauty promos. Also, I went in for a complimentary microdermabrasion facial (when I bought my sessions) and when I called to say I was running a bit late, the lady on the phone was really rude about it - I felt like she didn't even want me to come into the facial because it was free anyways... Don't offer something if you're not willing to do it! Other than that, the Colorscience (?) product is pretty cool, super lightweight on the face which is great. read more

When I started going to Urban Body Laser in 2015, I bought the "Guaranteed Service" Brazilian Bikini package; The Brazilian Bikini Package came with 12 treatments, and you were "guaranteed" to be satisfied with their service. The technician told me that most people don't even use all 12 treatments, and that if I didn't, I would receive a refund for the treatments I didn't use... I decided to buy the package, but couldn't afford it up front so I financed it over 4 months - over $600/month for 4 months (IE: about $2,500 total). I was willing to pay the money if it was guaranteed. Well, my treatments happened slowly over the course of 2 years with their recommended scheduling times, and I was seeing some results but I was VERY far from being hair free. Not only was it expensive and ineffective, but I had a different technician EVERY SINGLE TIME I went in for the first 6 treatments - I think after all 12 treatments were done, 7 different technicians had been up close and intimate with my vagina and bum line. I didn't appreciate that at all. When you go into an appointment, and the technician has to tell you to lift your butt cheek, I'd rather keep the damage to a minimum and have the same person see it every time. Some of the technicians are not awkward at all, and some of them got really weird and silent while they were doing my treatment. I literally saw every technician in the entire store. As for the effectiveness, at every treatment, I would tell them what was giving me results and what was not: one machine that feels like a ton of tiny hot needles sticking into your skin was entirely NOT effective for me, but I would see massive results when they used the suction machine, which thankfully is much less painful (if at all). I told them that I would like to use the suction machine only, and they said no, because they need to alternate. Later, I found out that the "hot needle" machine is actually not a hair removal machine at all, but a hair thinning machine, and that the suction machines are the only ones that are effective in hair removal. I also found out that big companies don't like to use the suction machines because they are extremely expensive, and stop working after a certain amount of uses... I literally spent $2,500 to be ripped off and not given my so-called "guaranteed service". At the end of my 12 treatments, I still had a very large amount of hair (full bush, and it was dark brown, and some of it was still wiry), so I told them that I was unsatisfied, and that I would like to keep receiving treatments, since I had "guaranteed service". They told me it's actually NOT guaranteed service, and that they will only provide me with one more treatment because I complained, and after that, I can pay another $600 up front again, and get a "discounted package" for $99/treatment, otherwise pay as I go for $150/treatment. Needless to say, I did not buy the package. That is such an extreme rip off, and their service sucks and is ineffective. I went to a different company called simply flawless who charged me $100/treatment, and have received only 2 treatments with only the suction machine, and I am now almost completely hair free - I've seen more results in 2 treatments than I did with Urban Body Laser, ever. Also, there is only one technician who runs the business, so I don't have to display myself to even more people. Do not go to Urban Body Laser!!! They are a complete rip off, and they're fine with showing off your private areas to all of their technicians without being sensitive to your privacy. read more

This is my first real review on Yelp and I think this place deserves a higher overall rating, but I know happy clients tend not to give as much feedback, so don't be misled. I would definitely recommend them for laser hair removal and have referred family. The technicians are super kind and welcoming, even for sensitive areas like your Brazilian, I've always been made to feel at ease and never awkward. The laser treatment itself is very effective, I've already noticed significant hair loss and am not even half way through my packages. Another great thing about this place, if you commit to 4 treatments at a time, you can get a bundle of sessions for free. So your per session cost turns out very reasonable. Lastly, the manager I spoke with was incredibly accommodating and understanding of my personal skin sensitivity situations. Even with sensitive skin I've never been left with any permanent marks like I've heard other places result in. They also really accommodate my schedule appointment wise and keep me on an interval that makes the laser effective. I had repeatedly horrible experiences with the staff. However, a few months after I left the company, leaving my package and money behind in an effort to avoid the staff, the owner of the company contacted me. She had had no idea what had happened and felt very bad about my experience. She apologized and gave me a refund for the money I was no longer able to use in the package I had purchased. I would like to say that after getting burned from my last laser appointment at a different laser centre, and being freaked out the whole incident, this is the ONLY laser centre that answered my questions AND offered to take a look at my legs, in person, at no cost. I called quite a few different places in Vancouver, and either they didn't seem to care, or told me what I already knew. Thankfully the burns went away, and it was due to the fact that the setting was set to high. Janiece, whom I spoke to on the phone, and who I met in person is super friendly, and the manager of the place. I learned so much from that appointment, then I have in years; like the fact that you have to tell them if you've been out tanning in the sun, because that is one of the reasons people get burned, and how the laser works better on different skin types, how you should shave not wax before treatment, how you shouldn't stop the treatments right when the hair growth stops, and how it's the best hair removal treatment if you suffer from in-growns; et cetera, et cetera. I put a $100 deposit down on the Brazilian, because they were offering a very good price, and she said the deal would go away but I would have it, and I could use that $100 for something else if I wanted to. Also it's not more expensive then what I paid before, but is more expensive then other laser centres in Vancouver. My only gripe would be the fact that you can use other cleansers that are PH balanced, and probably have the same results afterward. The aloe vera cleanser and gel that they want you to buy are very expensive, especially if you're a broke student like moi. I was supposed to go for my treatment a while ago, but life got in the way, so I will update once I have received my treatment with them! read more

I have been coming to Urban Body Laser for YEARS. The first treatment I booked was underarm laser hair removal (very conveniently booked with their payment plan which is amazing). After only a few sessions, I noticed incredible results. I believe I had 8 sessions on my underarms (usually 8-12 is recommended depending on your hair and your skin tone). I had no idea it was possible to get the results I received. I was shaving my underarms sometimes twice a day, I barely grow hair there now, my skin tone is clear and lighter - in the summer people constantly ask me if I've had laser/where I go. I highly recommend this place and have sent family/friends and coworkers here and will continue to do so. I did a bit of shopping around before purchasing my first laser package - yes, you will find there are cheaper places in the city but there is a reason Urban Body is a tad more expensive - the place itself feels like a spa and you are treated as if you are at a spa. Staff is professional, knowledgeable, educated, friendly and truly care about your results. Lasers and equipment are top notch. They constantly have deals and specials that they always make sure their customers know about (one of my favorite things about this place is that they always want their customers to get a good deal - if they have a special on or coming up - they make sure you know about it and provide you with all the information as well as offer payment plans to work with you and what you can afford at the time). Easy text and email reminders of appointments. Customer service also top notch - always work with you and your schedule to get you an appointment that works best for you (even if you end up changing it a million times). I was so happy with my underarms results that I booked Brazilian and half leg. Again, could not be happier with my results and it has been an amazing investment - barely have hair these areas anymore whatsoever. summer time is so easy, vacations are so easy - no more shaving constantly or spending money on waxing. skin itself is nicer, smoother, lighter, no ingrowns - almost looks airbrushed! very sparse re-growth. can go weeks without shaving anywhere now :) I have had friends go other places, to save money and go the cheaper route - they have NOT had the same results. My friend started laser the exact time I did, at a cheaper place in Vancouver - after chatting and comparing appointments she realized they were not turning up the laser after each session (something that should be done). She had 6 sessions and wasted hundreds of dollars. I told her she should have spent a bit more, like me, to get best possible results. You get what you pay for. I have also had a microdermabrasion facial here (which they put on my account for free - usually a treatment upwards of $200, as I had to wait a few minutes longer to get in one day - not a big deal, did not affect me at all and next thing I knew I had a free facial on my account). I recently purchased 5 BBL laser facials and very excited to have my first appointment. My favorite technician (Janelle) made sure I knew they had a special coming up and spent the time planning a payment plan that would work for me. She always goes the extra mile. I fully trust her recommendations and advice. She truly believes in the services she provides, as she has had many of the treatments herself and I think that is a very important element which the technicians here exhibit - they speak from experience and from a place of truly caring about you and your skin. I first went to Urban Body Laser 1 1/2 years ago. When I was in high school I was "the hairy arm club" so after talking with Brandy and being reassured that the hairy arm club would be no more I set up all the payments and I had my consultation with Brandy and next thing you know I am setting up appointments to get my entire body lasered. I would like to add that it is fairly expensive. To get my arms, under arms, braz, bum line and full legs ended up costing me 10k(well worth it to be hair free). I spent the first year on the big machine(not sure of the name) it was quite painful but then switched to the BBL(best thing ever). I have had all of my appointments with Brandy, she makes an uncomfortable situation(braz) comfortable. I have recently moved to Toronto but still fly back every 10-12 weeks to get my laser done. I have seen drastic improvement and my arms are now pretty much hair free. After writing my review, I had a manager from Urban Body Laser contact me. I must say that she did a fabulous job in rectifying the situation. I signed up for my six treatment back in November. As of January, they have changed their business practices - they recognized that there had been a few incidents in terms of miscommunication when it comes to their quotes and have since changed that. In terms of the Lidocaine ointment, apparently the one that they provide is gel-based and absorbs better (and therefore more pain relief) compared to some of the oil based ointments that they have had in the past. She was very interested in finding out about the ointment that I had found for $11 and even asked that I bring it in with me on my next visit. If it works well, they would love to offer a more affordable numbing agent to their clients. Lidocaine should be used carefully - you are supposed to use enough so that you feel that it has numbed the area. They found that their clients were not using enough, and as a result, they were not getting any pain relief during their hair removal session. Perhaps the use of the word "slather" may not have been the technician's best choice of words, but after speaking with the manager, they do seem to have a lot of knowledge and experience. She was able to answer all of my questions and even provide a lot of science behind how the whole laser hair removal process works. I am changing my rating to 4 stars. I did not complain to Urban Body Laser directly, but the manager contacted me because she had read my review on this site. I think that a company is only going to take the time to go online and read what people are saying if they truly care about their customers and the experiences they are having. It's unfortunate that there was some miscommunication with my situation, but I am glad that they took the time to discuss things with me and better the situation. I still believe they are more on the high end in terms of pricing. However, I would say it may be worth a little research if you plan to get laser hair removal. There are different types of lasers, and how long you wait in between treatments is important too. I haven't fully done my research so I can't comment in this area, but if I'm paying a higher price for the best results, then it's worth it. read more

This place is complete Disaster. DONT BUY THE BBL LASER FROM GROUPON - these technicians are amateurish. They call themselves professionalist but they aren't. I took personal consultation before buying the groupon because i wanted to make sure that they do treat the darker skin. The laser technician explained that they are efficient and have treated the different skin before. I ended up taking one laser treatment and left with terrible skin, i was really embarrassed to go out because the treatment left me with so many big dark patches on face. I still didn't blame them i waited for like 3 weeks to see if that heals or may be thats how the treatment works. Unfortunately these people play with peoples skin. When i went back to them and showed what their treatment caused, all they have to say is "YOU SHOULD BUY OUR PRODUCTS FOR MAINTENANCE"(which cost around $300). After that all they had to say is its my fault because i didn't use their products, which they never mentioned that it was mandatory. Actually its my fault i did read the terrible reviews on here about them but i stil took risk. Also i didn't have much money to invest. Lesson learnt Never go for cheaper treatments for your skin and invest wisely and read the reviews before going in to any places like this. Thank you for damaging my skin. read more

The prices of treatments were very high and the staff was very unfriendly and always trying to upsell additional products. After the first 2 treatments when they had collected my money for the next 12 sessions the service level I recieved went steadily down hill. I always got different technicians, which made it difficult to keep my treatments consistent. The area directly along my bikini line kept getting missed and I would mention this to each technician and a number were very rude and would try to tell me that I would have to pay extra to get my "thighs" done. My hair does not extend onto my thighs AT ALL and I was clearly referring to the area right on my bikini line...I merely wanted the missed spots to get treated (and they never were). I felt like they were trying to get more money out of me at every turn and I already paid a fortune. This is the last time I will be forced to pay for a service upfront. I had been considering laser for a long time but didn't know which place to trust until my friend told me how amazing her Brazilian laser results were. I decided that it was time to try this place out. I was initially skeptical but the girls there totally won me over. As painful (and yes expensive) the treatments are, I am happy to go because it works! And not only that I look forward to the girl that does my treatment - Jade - because she is like a friend. We chit chat and the appointment flies by! I'm so grateful that I started this - I'm not 1.5 years into the treatment with Brazilian and legs, and I barely have to worry about shaving either. I no longer have ingrowns, and the treatment areas are super smooth! I'm so happy that Jade doesn't make appointments awkward and asks me every time how the results were from the previous treatment. If I have any complains - which I almost never do because she does such as great job - she is happy to go over the area extra carefully on the next session.
