Less than a year ago Uptown Dawg re-opened the store. I went in within a couple of week of them opening and the prices were quite higher. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? single chain stores are typically higher priced than multi-chain stores? A bag of my cat's $2.00 treats was near $.50 higher; that's quite the jump. As well, the owner had her dog locked in a kennel behind the front desk. Not impressed. Last week i was going to foster two dogs and out of desperation (didn't have time to get to the pet store i usually go to: Pet Foods N' More) went there to buy a leash splitter which i couldn't believe was $30. it was as much material as a basic dog collar. i ended up not getting the dogs so a few days later when in to return the splitter. as i was waiting i saw the sign on the wall: no refunds, exchange/credit only. I expect this from used store places (Value Village) and Loonie stores, but a chain pet store when it wasn't a food product and it was only 5 days after i purchased it????? i asked for the owner's contact info from the manager as there's no point in complaining to managers anymore. all they do is repeat policy. I was told "you can't contact them, but they can contact you". wow, now it's some big corporation with untouchable owners.

They also had a modest selection of aquarium supplies too. I was looking for fish medication, and they had the one I needed in stock. But, this store is predominately for canines and felines; probably 2/3 of the store is dedicated to dogs and cats. They do have some live fish for sale, but the selection and prices are pretty sad. Staff are very helpful and enthusiastic, which earned them an additional star. Parking is ample, and you can visit the Safeway, Earls and several banks in the same plaza.

I asked why they did not mention the fact that our tank is not suitable for fish particularly for beginners. The lady said they are trained to sell all fish tank sizes. Seriously shady to sell us a tank with 3 fish when you know that the fish won't survive. I guess you are counting on us to return every couple of weeks to buy more fish. The manager at Port Coquitlam office calls me and says Petland corporate will not allow full credit on tank and offered me $5 off next tank. No thanks. When we arrived one of the groomers said they couldn't get at him with the air because he didn't like it so they just washed and brushed him. He was covered in hair, it seemed like he was shedding more than when we dropped him off. we brought him home and brushed him and got a plastic bag full of hair. It felt like I took a long time to decide what natural dog treat bag I should choose but there was so many options (which is wonderful!). While browsing, several customers were shopping (with & without their dogs) at the same time & looking the extra advise. I was impressed with the level of customer service provided to everyone. Also, the animal care knowledge this guy provided was very tactfully shared for the different levels of pet ownership. I should have asked if he was the owner or just a really dedicated employee but either way, I was impressed. In the future, if I'm looking for anything pet related, I'll certainly think of this place first.
