The trickiest part is payment as it is on the honor system... Payment can be made via single fare tickets, an Oyster card, or any contactless payment device (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Pay, any watch or credit card that has the "Wifi" symbol) Payment via contactless payment will be the cheapest and one merely needs to tap the yellow 3 feet podium before going up the stairs! The station itself is dated, like the rest of London City Airport and needs modernization. Trains have A/C and are on the noisier side...

Very efficient DLR station that brings rail to air. It's located right at the London City Airport…read moremain entrance, so there is not a whole lot of walking going on. Good signage. It's pretty much "Airport that-a-way". I suppose there are people who live in the area that use this station too. It is in Travelcard Zone 3. Like the entire DLR system, there are no ticket barricades. You must remember to buy a ticket or swipe your Oyster card. The DLR system does have ticket inspectors and the fine can be sharpish.

Stratford Station is the train station that we used most often when we stay in London. We always…read morestay at a hotel close to Stratford Station because it is very convenient. So many of the different train lines stop at Stratford Station. As others have mentioned, this station is huge! We've gotten a bit confused a couple of times during our stay. The staff have been very helpful in directing us where to go to get to our destination. For our most recent trip to London, there were quite a bit of homeless folks and litter outside the station. Never noticed any on our past trips to London. Other than that, I have no complaints about Stratford Station.

I have noticed that along certain stretches of lines the stations end up looking a lot a like, but…read morethat is pretty much because they tended to be all built as job lots, and generally at the same time. Still, I did like the place, it was cool.

A simple 2-platform tube station, perched on the line between zones 2 and 3, Bromley-by-Bow has…read morenothing to offer to the travelling passenger. There are a couple of benches on each platform. No food, no drink, and little light. Going up the steps at the single exit brings you face-to-face with speeding traffic on the A12 highway. Not fun, and not pleasant to walk along. There is a single ticket office, which isn't manned at all times. In late 2007, a WWII bomb was discovered nearby. Thankfully it didn't go off. The picture I've added shows it while still being under renovation. I haven't been to see it since early 2008, so it may have gotten a few updates. The District and Hammersmith and City lines pass from it, and even though it does end up cut off from a direct route to the centre on most weekends, there is always one of the 2 lines functioning.

Well, that was certainly the case with this station. It is pretty fancy, and pretty new as well, but I can't really claim that it is a favourite.

It's confusing to write about Canary Wharf Station now as it's really three stations serving three…read moreseperate lines - the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, and the DLR (there is a distinction between all three of these some Londoners will insist on making that is technically correct but really just serves to confuse the hell out of non locals) - but all together it's a sprawling set of linked transportation and shopping options unrivaled in London. What Canary Wharf lacks in soul it makes up for in convenience and choice. The whole design is focused around servicing the clinetel of the region, namely white collar business folks who live and work in the area. History was bombed and made obsolete around here so you're not going to find any remenants of the past save the reappropriated docks. But it is quite modern, clean, and bold in its design and feels quite different than anywhere else you'll visit in London. The older Jubille and DLR areas are by far the most useful as they are situated in the middle of a sprawling mall with a variety of good options; you'll find everything from standard convienience like Boots and M&S to more novel offers like the wonderful Tian Tian Market (dedicated to everything East and Southeast Asian cusine) and a local branch of Malin & Goetz. A smaller selection of mostly food options are available at the Elizabeth Line area. Nothing is necessarily architectuarally interesting at any of the areas of the stations per say although they're big, clean, modern and safe. I suppose the Elizabeth Line has a really sort of futuristic strange spaceshiip look to the exterior but you have to pan your eyes away from the fact that one of London's crudiest attempts at Western regional food (Big Easy) is perched up there. There's a least a five minute brisk walk between each of the stations so keep that in mind if you need to switch between them.

Poplar DLR Station is a key hub on the DLR network and acts as an interchange for 3 of the 6 lines,…read moremeaning it's one of the busiest stations on the network with multiple platforms for different services. It is located right next to a central DLR depot, meaning you can often see parked up trains going in/out of the station. The station is partially sheltered, obviously, it was a nice place to be on a warm, sunny day in London (which is rare) - this is pretty common for most DLR stations though. I also liked how the station gave advance notice of a platform change due to some work going on at the station, even a week before it was due to happen. One of my favourite DLR stations for ease of access, lines and overall view/feel of the station as it is pretty modern indeed! It's also only 2 minutes away to Canary Wharf on the Canary Wharf-Stratford line, where you can easily connect onto Jubilee Line services for London Underground and there are also many shops and restaurants, in a cool part of the city. 4*

I'm not quite sure why Poplar exists - it's barely a stone's throw from West India Quay and only a…read morecouple of blocks from All Saints. Or it should be bigger, since it is the only interchange that touches three of the four DLR (Docklands Light Railway) lines (Lewisham to Bank is the exception). It is in Travelcard Zone 2 and exists without ticket barricades or a staffed ticket station. There is an automated ticket machine and Oyster readers. Poplar has a very cool pedestrian footbridge that crosses over Aspen Way. Like many DLR stations, there is step-free access from the platform to street level.

Yep...its a DLR stop...but...what's there. 3 minute walk to Wakeup Docklands for wakeboarding and…read morepaddleboarding, the local Thai place, a mini beach (yes, actual nice sand), random pubs, ice cream stands... Amazing place to be on a nice day, and still pretty good on a not so nice one :-)
