I wish one star reviews were possible. Mr. Thomas was recommended by Home Depot Pro Services. He…read morewas late to the appointment we made for the next morning to recommend whether to replace or repair an old second-story side deck/porch on my historic home. He said he wasn't familiar with the side decks on these old York homes so I showed him mine with the new support beams and some rotted wood and the one next door, clearly visible, with no beams And in good repair. They have such porches all over this city and others, so I was surprised that he did not seem to know that the support of the porches are built into the walls of the building. I'm in a historic district in York, so I see them all over. Without looking at the condition of the deck/porch, he said he would refuse to move any beams because the original porch was "built wrong" and needed the beams for support. Some porches in the neighborhood have support beams and I am mostly opposed to the placement of the beams on my deck/porch. One prevents my opening my basement door. Without examining the porch to see if necessary support on the original structure was compromised, Mr Thomas refused any further discussion of the job, even replacing the rotted wood. I have recently purchased this house and the home inspection report identified some rotted wood, not structural instability, as a problem for the deck. My house is 132 years old and while the building practices may be outdated, they were not " wrong." I showed him my neighbors' porches that were still standing without the additional support as proof that the building practice had withstood the test of time. Mr. Thomas was not impressed and I was not impressed with his speed in leaving and refusing to actually examine the deck/porch for deficiencies.

Job was to replace toilet, bathroom vanity and top, bathroom faucet, and a kitchen faucet…read more Technically all those things were done and so far they all work. Jeffrey showed up early and worked hard. But: "Unfortunately, the trash is yours." It would've been nice to know ahead of time that I was going to end up with a busted toilet and sink in my yard. It would've been nicer if he'd cleaned up after himself. Unprofessional and uncommunicative. The lack of cleanup wasn't limited to the bulk debris. He left a pile of wallpaper in the hallway. He knocked a bathroom floor tile loose and only fixed it once I pointed out that now there was this cockeyed tile that wasn't flush with the floor. He made no attempt to replace the escutcheon he removed during the toilet install. His marker "got away from him" when measuring for the vanity faucet, and now I've got permanent marker on my bathroom wall. Maybe use pencil next time, idk. This job resulted in competent work surrounded by unprofessionalism. Would not hire again.

Our Kitchen Project: (Just Completed)…read more My wife and I had been wanting to have our kitchen remodeled for several months. When it finally came time to do it, we started going through the process of trying to find the right contractor for the project. We spent several weeks researching until we came across Yorklyn Construction. Once we met Ben, we felt like the search was over. The advice, detailed thought he put into our plans brought a sense of comfort to us. The quotes were fair and where we hoped they would be. Starting with Ben, our experience fanned out to the rest of folks working for Yorklyn. Tom, who managed our project, was absolutely in touch with our thoughts as the project transitioned from demo to the "rebuild". He did a better job of "detail nitpicking" than I could have. From the beginning they stated it clearly, "we want it done right for you." They certainly lived up to that and exceeded it. The carpentry work with the cabinets they constructed all the way down to the floor thresholds / transitions were perfect, and I mean perfect. I'm sure a lot of contractors hold similar standards, but where Yorklyn pulls ahead is with how they treat your property, residence and your family. You become a bit more than a customer. If you are looking at having some work done, I hope you give these folks a look. I'm sure you will end up where my wife and I are. (Incredibly happy customers!)

To Whom This May Concern:…read more Typically, we are not people that post reviews. Oh, if we really don't like something we have been known to speak up directly to the company. We have to have very strong feelings to post in a public forum. After all, saying something about a person's lively hood should not be taken lightly. Often people are quick to criticize and slow to praise. We would like to change that. We have a house that was in need of updates and repairs. We also where in desperate need of storage. We invited several companies to come by and tell us what they thought and to give us a bid. Two companies that came by and told us the project was too big for them and no bid the project. Finally, it came down to two companies from the area, Yorklyn Construction being one. Yorklyn shot straight with us. They told us the truth, not what they thought we wanted to hear. The bids came in pretty close but Yorklyn impressed us with their candor and professionalism which gave us confidence that once they agreed to something they would meet their commitments. We were told that the process would be long (several months) and that we would basically be living in a construction site. Like I stated, they shot straight with us and it was a big project. Side note, they did everything they could to minimize any discomfort and were respectful that this was our home. We did have hiccup's but Yorklyn's staff and the sub-contractors where great. In a project this size there are hundreds of small decisions, but I can honestly say that everyone involved looked out for our best interests. If they thought we were making a wrong choice, they spoke up. For example, we chose the color of grout for the shower in a showroom. The tile guy put in the tile but thought we made a mistake with the color of the grout. He didn't just go and let us make a mistake. Instead he spoke up and brought it to our attention. He and the project manager discussed it with us and made suggestions that we elected to follow and are happier for that decision. We had a similar experience with their painter. Trust me things look different in a sample catalog or a showroom than in your house. I also wanted to say that their carpenters are great and their cabinet guy is amazing, very skilled and exact, a true craftsman. Our cabinets are just wonderful. We can also tell you that on the rare occasion that we did express displeasure, they made it right and when a problem was our fault, they were fair. Several of the Yorklyn staff and sub-contractors feel like friends. We have very warm feelings for these people. We have grown to trust them. Not only would we recommend them, we will call upon them in the future when we need skilled professional trades people. Often in business "quality "is defined as meeting or exceeding a customer's expectations, in our book, Yorklyn's work and the people that make up this company are the definition of quality. Sincerely, Sandy and Garry Stewartstown, PA
