I am 45 miles away from the vendor. He told me his standard charge is $280 within his county, $330 one county out and $380 for 2 counties away. I do not recommend this vendor to anyone. $400 just for them to drive to your place.

I was impressed by him throughout the whole experience. When he came and provided the quote, one of the things we asked him about was some holes in the brick that we thought needed to be repaired. He explained that they were actually weep holes for water to drain from and needed to be there. We were planning to paint the bricks, and he told us he'd send us a picture later of the sponges we could put in when we painted. True to his word, later in the day he followed up with the details he'd promised. While this may seem small, I've had so many flaky contractors give me quotes and not do what they say they're going to that this was very refreshing. I was also impressed that he had chimney-sweep coloring books for the kids when he gave us the estimate. The estimate was very reasonable in price, and Richard was very responsive as I communicated with him about the project as we were deciding whether or not to have him do the work. When he came and did the work, he was very professional in all our interactions. He put down drop cloths from the front door to the fireplace (something else I've had contractors not do), and cleaned up at the end of each day. He explained everything he was doing, and was just very pleasant to work with. His workmanship was very good, and I plan to hire him again if we ever need additional work done.
