So, we called Village Chimney Sweeps to find out why the stove wasn't drafting as well as it should. Now, there was a little mix-up in what time our appointment was. It got moved up but that seemed to get lost in the shuffle, but I'm not going to count that against the business. Didn't ruin my day and shouldn't ruin theirs. However, if you find they're running late, you might want to call to make sure everyone is on the same page. Once the chimney sweep was here, he was neat, courteous and very good with our curious dog who seemingly was entertaining a career change into chimney sweeping that day. He found an abandoned squirrel's nest in the chimney, took photos and showed them to us. Then, he went to work clearing the clog and left the house just as it was before despite having a bunch of equipment set up and the soot he sucked out. Before he left, he made a few recommendations to consider over the long-term to keep everything working well but didn't put on a hard sell. Even though I hope we don't have to meet under the same circumstances, I wouldn't mind if we did.

The fireplace insert is in a huge stone fireplace and it puts out enough hot air to keep the whole place toasty. The old gas fireplace stove had been running sporadically. Mike came out to do a regular cleaning/service/safety check. He took the whole stove apart, cleaned all the parts and put em back together. This took over 2 hours and was included in the basic annual service charge. He even vacuumed the exterior of the fireplace, stove and hearth - that really please my wife. Called them for Chimney and Fire place inspection and to service gas logs…read more Received inspection report with photos of Chimney stack they are proposing repair work but no photos of interior inspection of chimney. And, more importantly, very little information concerning chimney condition and integrity of interior lining. Received proposal to Replace chimney Crown, Flashing, power wash and seal bricks. Estimated at a little over $4,000. The Technician that came to my home was polite and professional. I did watch as they worked -- cleaning fireplace, did not see them inspect interior of Chimney. Technician also showed me random photos from internet of Chimney stack (above roof) tops to explain issues with "crown" but did not show me pictures of my chimney. Then he went to truck and returned with tablet (ipad?) to have me sign and pay inspection bill. Said I would receive inspection report and a proposal for recommended work via e-mail. Did receive them. No contemplating recommendation -- proposed work.

I had not had it cleaned in 30 years. When they showed up (on time) he inspected my chimney flue with a mirror and light and informed me that there was no creosote buildup in the chimney at all therefore no cleaning was needed. They could have very easily pretended to clean it and charged me but didn't. He saved me about $180. Thankfully they were honest with me. That type of integrity is rare in the business world today. Oksana kept me apprised of the date of installation and ETA. They were on-time, and polite, took photos of the materials and final installation on the roof and hook-up in the basement, and sent them to me. That evening the boiler never came back on so I texted the installer (Walter's son) and he put me on a Facetime call to help me find the switch. When that didn't work he called Walter to report the problem and then let me know that Walter would be here in about 45 minutes ... they wanted to be sure I had heat overnight. Walter arrived at 9:15pm and quickly rectified the problem by finding the "reset" switch. The boiler immediately started up. Within two hours I was blown away by how quickly my old 2-story house had gotten toasty warm!!
