    Working on balance!
    Bridgett P.

My friend Jen suggested I come and try this aerial yoga class with her. I had been seeing it pop up on social media and decided to give it a whirl. I DID look like so much fun and I like to workout, so I had to give it a go! It's at the Hotel Wailea. Free parking. Flavored water. Friendly staff. Beautiful ocean views. I'll add this: I'm not super flexible. But it didn't matter. Dre warms the class up and gently gets people put into position. And some of those real deep stretches, are really good to get. Some of the moves look intimidating, but she carefully walks you through them, and right past the nervousness. I feel muscles working that I didn't know that I had. I push myself and work on balance, posture and breath. I felt a little nervous my first time, but with each class, it gets easier--or maybe I'm getting stronger and more confident? I think that's that it. Dre makes each class different and lots of fun. She will modify as needed. At the end of the class, we go into our slings (like a cocoon) and had a lavender scented cloth put over our eyes while Dre walked us through a super calming mediation. I never want it to end--it's so good. How long has it been since you've hung upside down? It's quite the interesting feeling as an adult. I close my eyes, breathe in the good stuff and let the other junk goooooooo.. I suggest giving it a whirl.

I took the Aerial Silks beginners series and it was amazing. The studio has an amazing ocean view, providing an amazing backdrop to my Monday mornings! Dre is so knowledgeable and provides a comfortable environment for everyone there. I could not be more pleased with this experience! I highly recommend it to anyone looking to challenge their bodies, while having fun with a group of rad ladies around you. Thanks Dre!

Had my second class at uplift Maui. Loved it! I am no gymnast and no prior aerial experience yet the patient and experienced instructor made it easy! It was a great strength and stretch with the added benefit of inversion hanging from the silks.

Her sound healing class is one of the best I have ever attended, it really balanced some issues I have in my vagal nerve due to childhood ptsd. I felt a lot more grounded the week I attended the sound healing. She also knows how to instruct people into difficult poses. She eases the student into difficult poses at the level they are capable of, so they can evolve into the pose without injuring themselves. Her graceful teaching style definitely shows her years of experience and wisdom . Yoga Hale is a cozy beautiful home environment that I really enjoy and gotten a lot of healing from. I highly recommend!

Quick easy process to sign up and sign waiver online. When I arrived, Chantel, the teacher greeted me at the entrance and checked me in. It didn't look like the information was received on her end, but it was again, a quick easy process. After paperwork and payment, she guided me back to the studio. It appeared to be a maze through another studio with curtains surrounding the workout floor and through another with a curtain. This was a smaller studio with about 8 infrared heating elements around the perimeter. There were only three students, including me. Chantel is in incredible shape and she led her class in a way that resembles that. Although I've taken hot yoga classes before within this lineage, she strayed a bit from the normal routine and it pressed me to work harder than I had in the past. Luckily, I survived! She very much tailored the class to the participants, which was very cool. This is a really cool studio with multiple areas for exercise and even a tatoo shop in the back! Hope to return for another class in the future! Keep on Yelp'n!

This place was referred to me WOM (word of mouth), so I walked over from 505 Front to their shop and was able to rent a board for $40 for the day. I don't know if that was reasonable, but nonetheless I had great use of the board for about 3 hours. I mentioned that I hadn't boarded in a couple of years and the guy assured me that it'll be fine--it's just like riding a bike. He was right, once I got the board in the water it was great. The shop is great and the staff was helpful. The only down side is the location to The Breakwall--you have to carry your board to the beach and it's about a 2 block hike. If you don't mind the hike, I recommend renting your equipment here.

Came to Hawaii during the first week of April and the conditions were terrible! 2-3 ft barely in Waikiki and 2-3 ft in Lahaina, while everywhere else was a lake or blown out. Fortunately the lady and I found MSC who offered a great selection of rentals, storage, and outdoor shower! Lolo and a lovely woman (sorry I lost your name!) with an adorable pup set us up with a premium rental ($45) and a softie ($30). This came with rash guards, booties because of the coral, and a locker and a bin to leave our stuff. The shop is big and cozy with a bunch of items from snorkeling to SUP. Nice incense and Hawaiian/Tropical music playing around. Really set up the Aloha spirit and mood. Lolo gave us the lowdown and really explained everything about Lahaina Harbor (bunch of schools and long boards) and the Breakwall (consistent left and shortie friendly). Since I ride a 5'7" at home I wanted a board with maneuverability, but float - and given the sm0l waves I opted for a 6'10" 48L thruster. The lady was just learning so she got a 9'0" softie. Lahaina Harbor was perfect for the lady - especially with the sneak lessons she got from all the instructors. And Breakwall was a dream considering LA/OC has been terrible with the rain and storms (but thankful Cali has rain finally). Really enjoyed the long lefts and exploring the faces. And seeing my lady finally standing up on a board! Just be wary of the long paddle out! Came back to MSC and just had to place everything on the lawn outside. And the staff allowed us to leave our stuff in their bins while we explore. One of the best places we've visited so far and can't wait to come back when Lahaina is pumping.

I'd been wanting to try Stand Up Paddle boarding, but wanted some guidance. I ended up trying Jen's Yoga class, Ty's Bootcamp and Jen's SUP class. I recommend all of them. Both Ty and Jen are great teachers. They listen to your needs and abilities to challenge you, but also give you options if you're rehabbing an injury or have an physical limitations. Ty's Bootcamp is a fun, challenging class. He combines cardio intervals with strength sets...no weighs needed. It can be as intense as you make it. I love this because the class intensity isn't based on the level of the participants. You can push yourself or choose to take it easier. You'll earn that poolside Mai Tai after this one. The SUP class was for all levels. Now if you're very experienced then it's probably not for you, but who knows you could still have fun. Jen taught us how to carry the boards, get them in & out of the water, basic maneuvers on the boards then we did a few vinyasa flows. The soft waves add a real challenge. I fell in 3 times, but hey that means I'm learning...which was kinda the point. Look up getgladmaui.com and go take a class or two wether you're on vacation or live here.

Jen was a patient and very encouraging teacher. She pushes you to challenge yourself and to make sure you're having fun at the same time. Jen specializes in helping women who are new to water sports to get into them. She was also great with my husband who joined me in the lesson. He wasn't initially that interested in spending the money on the lesson, but after the lesson was over, he couldn't stop talking about how great the sport is and how great a teacher Jen was. He was immediately trying to see when he could go out again and how to get his own board. Jen stressed what a good sport it is for families to do together. My kids were so excited that I tried something out of my comfort zone and are looking forward to me joining them in more beach activities (instead of sitting on the sand watching them play). Thanks Jen for making our trip to Maui one to remember!
