Cathe is a gem. This store started in 1977, (I believe), in Carlsbad, with the original name of Aphrodite's Closet, and has been serving up timeless Goddess attire ever since. Cathe personally oversees the hand curated collection, which consists of everything from high function, feminine pieces that go with everything, to fully assembled, accessorized looks that make you feel like you're just absolutely fabulous and just walked out of a museum. You would never find these looks or unique pieces anywhere else because Cathe has been putting the store assemblage together for decades with a keen artistic eye. The store itself is lovely and they have all the outfits accessorized with jewelry but disappointed in the over charging. I picked out this necklace that had a price of $18.99 on it but when I got to register it was actually $32. They must have forgotten to take away the real suggested retail price before they wrote their own $32 in pen on the back. To not be embarrassed and call them out, I just decided to buy it anyway. When I got home and looked at the receipt I was charged a total of $36.09?! On top of tax there was a non cash adjustment added. Really?! That added insult to injury and I was not told it would be up-charged for using credit like it's a gas station! I can guarantee they paid like $5 for this item. I've worked retail. I will not be coming back. They really should just refund me. Super disappointing. read more

This is a really special, unique, quaint little shop. The lady that owns the place is so freaking sweet. Not only is she warm and welcoming, but she makes you feel good about yourself. Every woman needs to feel good when trying on clothes. She's got a lot of really cool new age vintage stuff that would make a cowgirl feel classy. The prices are kinda high, but there always seems to be stuff on sale. This is my mom's favorite store..she has found some really unique dresses along with some really fab jewelry. I tagged along one day and even found a black light weight cotton dress made in Mexico. I totally love it. I browsed through the jewelry and found a bunch of cute things I wanted. Most of it was Guatemalan and she even had a picture of the Guatemalan ladies making the jewelry. She had some really cool costume rings that I loved, but I decided against in the end. Every time I went to the Saturday farmers' market I had wanted to check this place out, but was always in a hurry. It would make sense to go BEFORE I have heavy bags of produce in tow, but I never think of that. Anyhow, I was drawn into the boutique by a cute wrap-around skirt I saw on the rack outside. Upon entering, the place is larger than it appears from the front, and is filled to the brim with flow-y, lacy clothes. There were several female customers and 3-4 people working. It was difficult to know who was working versus who was a customer because everyone was so friendly and eager to compliment each lady emerging from her fitting room. The fitting rooms were clean and appropriately spacious. As mentioned by other reviewers, there is a wide variety of eclectic, feminine items. In general, most prices were a little high for me, and the target demographic a little older than me, hence not a 5-star rating for my needs. That said, you may find a bargain as I did; the skirt I liked on sale was high-quality, adorable, and reasonably-priced ($20)! In fact, one of the other customers liked it as well and tried to find another one in the same print, but had to settle on a different print in the same style. So most items are unique. Service was perfect. I believe the owner (the blond lady in the pictures) helped me and rang up my purchase. Upon leaving, I noticed that the sign on the sale rack said "cash only", and felt bad because I had paid by credit card! Typically I pay cash at independently-owned businesses, but had spent all my cash at the market. I thought it was sweet of the lady to not call me out on it, and for that I will definitely return (and bring my cash)! read more

I just moved into the area a few months ago and came in here. The lady was amazing. My sister was visiting from Uganda and we came in dressed in our African clothing. The lady at the shop was so sweet and said so many nice things to us. Sometimes you never know what your gonna get being a person of color and it's usually the eyeballing or following you around the store, but this shop wasn't like that at all. I couldn't remember the location of this store or the name because I'm new to the area and live near the lake so I just decided maybe I can figure I out on Yelp! So glad I did! I promised to come back months ago to shop. I loved everything in the store and am so excited I found it!! I will definitely be in over the weekend to fill some shopping bags!! Probably the most beautiful clothes in all of Inland Empire! When you visit "Up your Alley" you are surrounded with feminine beauty everywhere you look. It doesn't matter what size you are - there is something for everyone. I purchased a long duster type top, with crystals all down the back, crystal bracelet to match and black leggings. Beautiful! Definitely not child friendly! My son is 3, was sitting his his stroller, watching his iPad and the lady asked if i could take my sons drink from him. And offered that i could put it on the counter if i wanted. (About 30 seconds after walking into the store. Yes i will give her it was a red juice. But it was in a cup, with a lid, and he wasn't even touching it.) Then my friend wanted to try a dress that was on a mannequin. (Last one in her size) she offered her every other dress it seemed like in the store before offering to take the one off of the mannequin. I tried on a romper and the lady starts small talk about my kids. And says your baby (4 month old) is so good! That you always get one good baby and one troubled one. I looked at my friend with a confused face because my 3 year old was singing along with the iPad. How is that a troubled kid?!? For the average price tag in this store you would think customer service would be outstanding. This is by far the best store I have ever been in! I had to go to a wedding in Temecular, and wanted something special. When I told the owner that a US Senator would be there, and a little about the setting she picked out the most beautiful outfit I could imagine! Had the in-laws in last weekend and walked good ol' Old Town, as anyone would do for their out of town guests (tourists). The women wanted to stop in here, as neither (including my wife) had been in it before. As far as the offerings, the other reviewers are spot on when it comes to having very nice, modern, feminine, attire and accessories. There were a few items worthy of purchase and the wives were leaning towards doing so. But what, pray tell, stopped them from dropping their hard earned monies at this business? It was the constant trailing by one of the employees, watching (staring) at the women as they looked over various items. This was the type of trailing / watching / staring that one would, and we did, associate with someone concerned of thievery. You need to be more discerning on whom you perceive may be potential thieves! Middle class, nicely (modern) dressed middle aged women are NOT your potential thieves. If this was not why you were following them around and peeking over and around at them then you are one odd woman, to say the least. They were so disgusted and irritated by the behavior they chose NOT to patronize (spend $$$) this establishment and left. Your loss!!! read more

While I agree, the clothes and accessories are very pretty, but expensive ~ the store owner, Cathe delivers the worst possible customer service I that have ever experienced in recent memory! Here's what happened: 3 weeks ago I purchased sandals from the Farmer's market. I wore them 1 day, they caused pain and even blisters on my feet. I came back the following week to see if I could return them, even for store credit. I was never rude nor disrespectful to any of her employees. I was told it was against store policy to return sandals once worn. I can understand and respect their store policy, but I thought I would try. The employees told me nicely that I should talk to Cathe. I tried again last week at her store, but she wasn't in. So this morning I finally caught up with her at the Farmer's Market. I greeted her with kindness, said good morning with a smile, and proceeded to tell her what happened, showed her the scars from the blisters on top of my feet, caused by the sandals... but she cut me off and rudely said "I know, you've tried to return these worn sandals ~ I'm sorry (non-apologetically), it's against store policy" I said (still patiently) but they hurt my feet, I was hoping that you would consider in good faith and in good will to help me... She never even looked at the condition of the sandals... Now here's the part that got to me: She said, and I quote verbatim; "I cannot believe that any human being would even attempt to return worn sandals, that's like trying to return dirty underwear!!" ~ I guess I'm not human ~ (Cathe, if you read this, don't even deny this truth ~ and you totally missed the point!! ~ for the sake of good will & good faith, you could have helped me, even if you didn't refund me, perhaps you could have offered a discount on something else!!! You chose NOT to!!!!) This infuriated me to no end and I said I cannot believe her level of customer service and said I hope she doesn't rely on word of mouth business, I actually wanted to purchase a dress I liked, hoping to at least get some store credit or discount... She repeated that "can't believe you'd return worn sandals, it's unsanitary! At this point, I gave up, dropped the bag with both pairs of sandals at her feet and said I have no use for these and walked away... If only Cathe had treated me with an once of understanding and respect, this encounter could have turned out completely different. read more
