I went to Up Close Beauty Max the owner Michelle Mai had told me $250 for a balayage when she was completed with my balayage I looked at my hair and I noticed there was orange spots that I pointed out to her she added more product to reduce the orange and proceeded to charge me extra for that and total with everything it came out to $350 plus tip. As I began to style my hair for the first time since the service I noticed that my hair was not done correctly. You see orange spots , blonde to brown , not blended etc. I reached out to Michelle and asked for a refund but she refused because of the all "time" and "product" she used. I understand that part but you didn't do it right! And now I have to go spend Another couple $100 dollars to get my hair fixed and color corrected which is so expensive! My hair is everything to me so this really broke my heart and I would really like a full refund!! Wow! I went here to get partial highlights, toner, a cut, wash & blow dry using a Groupon deal for only $51! My hair looks like my friends hair & they spend 100s for the same treatments. I have never had my hair professionally highlighted before and omg this is the best my hair has ever looked in my life. She transformed my hair from yellow with horrible split ends & damage, to incredibly sleek, natural looking blonde. My hair dresser did the job quickly & effortlessly & she was so sweet! The customer service is amazing, everyone greeted me with a smile & made sure I was happy the whole way through, offering water when I had to clear my throat & giving me an iPhone charger to use when my phone was dying. He CLAIMS many years experience but it is evident he does not care for his practice. Your relaxation is not his concern as he kept trying to have a conversation... SHUT UP CAL. On the paperwork it asks if you want a "breast massage"... that should have been my first warning to run. Michelle is AMAZING! I drive all the way from Sugar Land to have her do my hair. She has colored my hair, done keratin, facials, and today I am trying the Japanese hair straightener! Michelle takes her time, is always very personal and professional. She is amazing! Well - one of the bad reviews is from someone that didn't even have a service done and the other is from someone booking a massage through an independent contractor that leases space from UBM. Totally ridiculous that people are allowed to review salons that they have never used. Yelp needs to have some type of verification process to make sure reviews are from real clients and not people upset that they were not greeted "correctly" and left the salon angry. Especially if these reviews are going to show up when you just ask for directions! Seriously. If the stylists are busy when you walk in just let someone know you're there for your appointment with whoever your stylist is. Don't you want to go to a salon that is busy? That obviously means they have a lot of customers which means that they do a great job! I always look at online reviews and so do a lot of others so if you have used Michelle or another stylist at UBM please write a review for them so that their business does not suffer from angry high maintenance people that have never even tried their services! I unlike the other 2 reviews am a real customer of UBM that has used their services many times and am happy to speak to anyone if they have any questions. I called to get an appointment for a consultation to have my extensions maintenance on 8/28. I was excited to hear that Michelle could fit me in immediately for my consultation. While in the chair I informed Michelle this was my first set of extensions and this would also be my first time having them maintained. As some may know if you have extensions your real hair most likely is not as long as the extensions. Michelle toyed with my hair pulling on my actual hair and began laughing then asked "why did you do this to your hair?" Feeling very offended by someone who is supposed to be a professional I held back the tears that I could feel start to blur my vision and I informed her "I have cancer" very snarky. Michelle replied that she didn't know and that clients cut their hair. Not even an apology. However the damage was done. I knew right then I would not allow her to work on my hair. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this salon due to the lack of professionalism I received. ----- since it appears my reply was not posted I want to share it ------ Not once did I act or say the world owes me for my necessities. Laughing at someones hair and asking them "why they did something to their hair" is very rude no matter what the situation. If I had cut my hair myself that's not for a stylist to laugh and comment on. Most people with extensions have their natural hair shorter than the length of the extensions. Since you have cameras with audio listen to Michelle laugh and comment on my hair. VERY RUDE! Yes I got snarky I admitted that in my post, I don't deny that. I'm also not going to apologize for it. I purchased 2 separate groupons for this place. One for a massage and another for haircut & highlights. When I called to make an appointment, no one ever answered the phone. Additionally, the owner Michelle was extremely difficult to communicate with and got easily frustrated when I could not understand her and asked her to clarify. Upon arrival at my hair/highlights appointment, I was notified that the stylist called in sick but no one called to notify me, even though I had contacted them an hour before to confirm the appointment. They had to reschedule me for another day. As for the massage groupon -- I made an appointment at the beauty salon and was told it was confirmed. However, when I showed up for my appointment, Michelle told me that the massage therapist was not available and that I should speak to him directly to schedule a massage. The massage therapist told me that he let Michelle know he was sick that week and wasn't making any appointments. Ultimately, I made 4 trips to this place - the hairstylist was good, the massage was average and the customer service was horrible. I will never go back to this establishment. The fact that the owner is replying to these Yelp reviews in a defensive manner is just an example of how rude she is to her customers. NO THANKS P.S. The Owner did reply to this review just to harass me for my opinion. Apparently, being a business owner is hard for her and I should try to run a business myself. I bought a living social deal which included haircut, highlights, and deep conditioner. It was quick and easy to make an appointment someone answered the first time I called and they have a really cool texting system where you confirm your appointment and get notifications! I appreciated that reminder! My appointment was for 1:30 I got there at around 1:15 and patiently waited while Rosy was with another client. I was called back around 1:30 - 1:35 and asked to change my top in the restroom (they have hangers for your clothes) I was a little awkward that my shirt is hanging in the restroom lol I wish they had a separate changing room but that's a separate issue. Once I was seated I showed Rosy a picture of what I wanted and she told me it would be an additional $25 for my length (which is justified I have very thick and long hair and every place charges me extra so nothing out of ordinary) and told me if I didn't like the color after the bleach it'll be an additional $25 for toner which I was okay with and I'm glad she told me early on than being surprised while checking out. She spent her time and made sure I was happy with the final look! I'm so happy she did an amazing job and I've been getting so many compliments! This was the look I was going for because I don't like yellow blonde highlights on my hair and she tried her best to tone most of the yellow out. She also explained their keratin treatments available that I can do next time because I have so much frizz. I walked out of the salon at 4pm feeling fabulous! This is my very first time leaving a Yelp review but I feel it necessary in order to spare someone from the rudeness of this person, Michelle M. I mean all you have to do is read her yelp responses to get an idea of her personality. So this was My experience, for approximately 1 yr I have been going each month to get root touch up at Up Close with Rosa who is very genuinely nice, and does a great job however because of Michelle I will not be returning. All the other customers that have reported Michelle actions of insulting clients and being rude are 100% accurate. I got to experience it today 6/21/2022 first hand. I went in for root touch up, Rosa called me to sink to remove hair dye and I walked up to the sink area. Michelle was occupying the sink that Rosa was going to use to rinse my hair. In front of all the other customers and employees she tells me twice in a very loud tone "YOU NOT IMPORTANT" "YOU NOT IMPORTANT" referring that the extensions she was rinsing were more important than me. It was a humiliating experience. There was an awkward silence and I could tell her employees were embarrassed by her behavior. Rosa apologized to me for her. I do not think Michelle even realized how out of line she was and most certainly did not try to apologize to me. I was appalled at the lack of professionalism and just plain rudeness of this lady. I should have walked out at that point but I was literally dumbfounded by her mean, disrespectful demeanor towards me. I was not going to say anything and just let it slide because I really like Rosa's work however honestly I cannot find it in me to continue to support an establishment that has such a rude, callous, unprofessional business owner. I normally don't give reviews but I decided to tell about my experience. I got a facial and a massage using Groupon last month. Melissa did a Great job with my facial. This was my very first facial and it was very relaxing. My face felt refreshed after getting it done. After my facial I had a massage with Cal. His approach was Not super friendly at all. When I entered the room he gave the instruction about laying flat on my stomach, and removing my jewelry, then he said you can begin removing them now as we speak since you have a lot of jewelry on. I felt very rushed. Keep in mind I only had a few pieces on, it will only take less than 30 seconds to remove them. He came back in and began the massage I told him my place of concern which are my neck and my shoulder blades. He then told me he would do the massage with the vibrating machine. I've never heard that one before. He only spent 10 minutes on my upper back with his hands, 5 minutes on my neck, and rest of the massage with the vibrating machine. The front of my legs or my thighs was not massaged at all. The rest of the massage was done with the vibrating machine. The only thing that was done without the vibrating machine was my arms and hands. To be honest I think he didn't put much effort into it because it was with Groupon, because he kept mentioning Groupon a few times. When he was through with the massage, he told me take my time getting dress. I got up and started to dress right away, within 2 minutes I heard a knock at the door. I said to myself maybe it's next door (it has the facial room right beside), so I kept combing my hair within a minute another knocking. I opened the door and he was said I have another client. I was puzzled for a second I told him I was fixing my hair. a little. He came right in as I was still combing it and started removing the sheets for his next client. I still give him a tip because that's just my nature. He didn't even say thank you when I did tip him. He has no people skills. To be honest I didn't feel any different than when I came in I had the same aches. I've had many massages done before and this has to be the worst experience I've ever had. It was also not a very relaxing environment. It's very loud, you can hear all the noise from customers washing there hair which is directly in front the massage and facial room. I made an appointment at this place, when I came in nobody greet me, they seemed to be done for the day, one lady was doing hair right by the door, they other one sitting checking her phone, the other one on the back just chilling, the one on the phone looked at me and quickly went back to her phone. I sat there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to come and get me, but they were to busy on their phones. When I finally got up to leave, the lady doing hair by the door tried to stop me. As soon as I got to my car I received a call from them asking me where I was at, Really?! If you care about your customers, as soon as you see then coming through your door you ask them: How can I help you? You don't pretend to be to busy to talk them. Very underwhelming experience. I bought a Groupon for a 90 minute massage and a European facial. My massage lasted 70 minutes. When I inquired why, the massage therapist told me they told him up front it was only 60. He threw in a 5 minute chiropractic adjustment to "make up for it." The massage wasn't great. Was it relaxing? Yes. Was it therapeutic? Nope. I was disappointed, since he claimed to do sports medicine massages. I thought he would do some serious deep tissue on me, which is what I really need, but it was your typical swedish massage, for the most part. I told him at the beginning that I had a bad back, but he focused very little time there. Also, I've never, ever had a massage therapist pull out a big vibrating massager during a professional massage. I could have had my husband do that at home for FREE. Onto the facial - the facial was nice and relaxing despite the esthetician's efforts to up-sell me from the second I walked into the room and her boozy breath. She told me several times that they were serving martinis because they were celebrating her birthday. Unprofessional much? Overall, this place is way too loud and busy to do massages and relaxing facials because I could hear all of the conversations and giggling outside the rooms, despite "relaxing" music and fake water sounds that just made me need to pee. These people know what they're doing! Ask for Priscilla she's great and really knows what she's talking about, she's very experienced in cutting hair. This place is a little bit expensive if you're normally used to paying $10 to $20 on a haircut but its definitely worth it! They have a wide range of services that they offer rather than just hair. Just got back from the stylist. I am soooo glad I called her. I love my hair it is so much healthier now that she cut off the dry ends, and not a blunt cut either, I have fluffy Jennifer Lopez hair. The cut was great but the best part is Michelle. She stayed open on a Saturday night just for me and she did not act at all like she was rushing to get out. I had a great time talking with her and I now have a great stylist and sooooo close...so glad I checked yelp and found her...Jessica... Went back again today...Michelle is such an awesome stylist. Besides getting rid of my split ends and making my hair come back from the dead. I came here because my mom and best friend recommended it and I found my girl. PRISCILLA!!!! She has brought my hair back to life! She can keep up with my changing my mind on styles and colors. And is very good at keeping up with trends. I have had a short brown bob, am currently sporting the long blonde ombré and now we are headed toward red, and she has made me happy every visit. The pressure was good, setting was relaxing. I felt great after. My facial was great, as well! I haven't had a facial in 10+ years...kinda forgot what to expect....but what I received was wonderful!! Yesterday was my 3rd visit to this salon for a keratin treatment. The first 2 visits were from Groupon deals and yesterday was just because I knew they'd do a good job and I was not disappointed. Rosie did my color (first time here!!) and keratin. She took her time and was very thoughtful.
