Unscripted was a nice dining experience in downtown Durham. During the winter, they have igloos set up, which is such a fun way to enjoy outdoor dining. The service was good, and we caught a beautiful sunset, which made the view even better. The food was decent, but the real highlights were the music and chill atmosphere.

The hotel is as central as you can get in downtown Durham. Everything was walkable, plenty of restaurants/ bars and even the minor league ball park. The hotel was pretty cool, definitely unique. And the staff was super friendly, but we were not happy with our room. It was very damp throughout our stay and our shower was not cleaned at all. There were numerous long dark brown hairs on the wall. It also seemed weird that there was only one desk chair and no other seating in the room. Lastly, though not that important, the bar does not have a cocktail menu.

We celebrated our anniversary dinner in one of the igloos and thought we'd just stay one night so we don't have to rush back home. We are about little over an hour away so it was nice not having to drive. The hotel is in a cool area of Durham. Very hipster and industrial which is our favorite vibe. Parking was easy and plentiful (although $25!!!) I don't care for places that charge you parking when you are staying overnight. We got a pool view which it seems like this hotel was or laid out like a motel. I believe there is 4 floors. Floors 3 and 4 have a pool view. We were in room 424 which had a nice view of the pool and the igloos. I imagine this would be fun in the summer when the pool is swimable. The room needed a deep cleaning as the walls were filthy. All it takes is a wet cloth as the wallpaper is wipe able. The bathroom was decent although unsure if the mirror was broken as there was some exposed wiring. There was a very small bar of soap for your hands and the shampoo, conditioner and body wash were nearly empty. We also only had 2 bath towels so we had to go down and get another one as there was 3 of us. The carpet didn't seem to be vaccumed as there was clothing tags and what seemed like popcorn on it. Overall we'd stay here again but would expect the room to be a bit cleaner for the price. 4 stars for the view and vibe but 3 stars for the room itself.

I wrote a review before but I had to come back and write another one. We had dinner on the rooftop inside of the igloos and the night was beautiful. The food was amazing! Everything we had was cooked perfectly.

I travel alot for work and for personal. I spend at least 75% of my life away from home, away from my bed. As a middle class adult, who grew up (very) lower middle class, I don't have high expectations. Just want a clean and comfortable place to lay my head, relax, eat and work out. 1-10 scale on each. Hotel: great location downtown. Very cool and "modern" definitely better than a standard hotel. * Staff- 10! Shanika was kind enough to upgrade us to a king bed. She handled the stress of unexpected technical difficulties like a champ. Janelle moved mountains for us at the patio for dining. * Friendliness: 10 - it's the south. Not used to the sheer friendliness. * Helpful: 10 - again. The upgrade will get you high scores here. * Rude: 0, everyone from front desk to wait staff awesome. Bathroom- modern and CLEAN * Shower: 9 - nice shower. Good water pressure and clean. * Water Pressure: 9 good. * Hot water: 10 - it was nice. Cleanliness- it's a hard score to perform well at. Aside from random stains on items from previous guests. Place was very clean! * Overall: 9.5 * Room: 9 * Hotel:10 Comfort: 8 * Bed: 10, blankets and pillows were high quality. I slept really well and comfortably * Desk: 0: Due to the large windows. The TV was on the desk. Sucked up a lot of counter space. You could not use the desk as a work station. * Couch: no room for couch. N/A * HVAC: 10! It was whisper quiet! I hate waking up to the HVAC kicking on and off. This was silent. * Lighting: 10, it was soft and abundant. Amenities: gym, lots of outdoor space. If the weather was better I would hanging out Entertainment: * TV: N\A. Wifi and dish was out. But they have dish network. Gym: 10 * Clean: yes * Free weights: yes * Equipment: yes Perks: free waters. Which is nice bc I don't have status here. Billing: 10: no issues on the back end. Front end had to email corporate. OVERALL! 9.5! This place is awesome. The art deco was very well done. Staff friendly, great location. But honestly, I would hang at the hotel. I highly recommend and will be my place of choice next time I go back.

We stayed at the Unscripted for our staycation night no. 2. Unfortunately neither of us were impressed with our stay. Here are the pros: A staycation rate was offered. The location was within walking distance to everything that we did. Free parking and a round of drinks were included in the price of our stay. Here are the cons: There were a few larger stains on the carpet and the room had a slight smell to it. The room appeared to be clean but we found a few things that we had to put in the trash. The shower is odd, it was a half piece of glass with no door or shower curtain so water got on the floor. It's loud especially with the events they have on the weekends and even in the room itself when guests are traveling with their luggage. The rooftop pool and patio are very overrated. Even with the staycation rate, it was not worth the price paid. If I had the chance to redo it, I would have chosen another hotel. This looks like it was a nicer hotel when it first opened but it has headed slightly downhill.

We had a fun outing here at the Igloos on the rooftop. For a group of 6+, $50 per person minimum spend is not really bad. The igloos are setup pretty nicely and provides a fun ambience for a night out with friends. Food wise, it is a bit on the expensive side with a chicken burger costing $16, but the quality was more than decent. The crab cake appetizers were very nice. We had a few drinks, and ate with aplomb. They also provide a Sonos Bluetooth speaker for your igloo to play your own music. Our server, Tamarie, was very nice snd took good care of us.

The Durham Convention Center is attached and the Carolina Theare is next to it. DPAC was about a 10-minute walk if that and included waiting for the traffic signals. Valet parking is $30 a night, so I decided to find a place on the street again. So I got street parking right near the hotel for free as it was the weekend. I am not a fan of valet or of paying $30 for parking. There are parking garages nearby if you prefer that. The staff was very friendly and I felt treated very well here as a Titanium member with an early check-in, lounge access and free breakfast. I didn't see any snacks in the lounge this visit. For breakfast, you need to use your key to enter the lounge. Beverages are in the lounge, but you go to the restaurant buffet for the food. It is quieter in the lounge than where the restaurant is located. My room was on the other side of the building this time and I didn't hear the train once. Usually, when I use a free night certificate, I tend to be put in the worst room available. But thankfully, that wasn't the case here, my room had a large window with a lot of natural light. The room had the vinyl plank flooring to look like hardwood and the decor and furniture were up to date. My stay was very comfortable here. This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed and look forward to my next visit. I can see coming here for a staycation.

The lobby is large with a bar that offers up a (very limited and price-gouging) Starbucks menu, with plenty of places to sit even if you're not ordering anything. Speaking of, I recommend you leave the hotel in search of coffee because my very basic iced espresso that's normally around 6 dollars at a Starbucks was 10 dollars here plus tip. My room was pretty basic, don't expect much in terms of a view even though the windows are large. Decent-sized, comfy beds/linens. No bathrobe in the room (not sure if you can ask for one). I was informed that I'd get access to breakfast/evening refreshments in the lounge but I didn't have time to partake so I can't report on that (nor the gym). While slightly dated in appearance and a little basic overall, I feel the location makes up for all of that. I also got it at a decent rate which helps.

This Residence Inn in Durham fell short in ways that are difficult to overlook. The positives: * Convenient location, especially for Duke and medical visits * Spacious room with modern décor * Extra-large bathroom and generous vanity -- easily the best feature * Breakfast area was spacious and pleasant (food was standard Residence Inn fare) The problems: Sleep quality is a basic hotel expectation, and this property did not deliver. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off all night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise. Between the two, restful sleep was nearly impossible. Parking added another layer of frustration. There are very few surface spaces, a very small garage, and guests are charged for parking on top of that. Charging for parking when availability is this limited feels unreasonable. Additionally, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival -- a small detail, but one that speaks to oversight. We reported the HVAC noise and missing body wash to Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). While both were polite, no Bonvoy points or other acknowledgment of the inconvenience were offered. The room layout and location are strong, but between the noise issues and parking situation, we would choose another hotel in Durham in the future.

The hotel is perfectly located close to food, bars, campus, and shopping without the hassle of downtown parking. With a small open lot in back of the building, a covered garage, and a large open lot, there was always space available, no matter when we arrived and it was easy to navigate. This is an older RI property and it shows in some areas. While some upgrades have been made with a well outfitted gym and brand new LG machines in the guest laundry, some of the room furniture was well used and past the point of needing to be replaced. That said, the hotel is clean, convenient, and close to so much downtown. No regrets staying here and would do it again.

The reviews were promising (I thought I saw one or two reviews that stated parking was free or available on the street by the hotel). I booked the morning of my stay for a little over $142 (whereas JB Duke was $191 + free validated parking). I arrived around 5:30pm and parked in the retail shops parking just for my check-in and figured I'd either get free parking in AC's garage or find street parking later (was just dropping off my bag). As my check-in process was almost complete the staff member asked if I had a vehicle - I confirmed and she pulled out a card and asked that I place it in my dash, told me where the elevators were and wished me on my way. I read over the card while in the elevator and see that it's $20 per night for garage parking. I guess no biggie because even with a parking charge, the stay was still cheaper than JB Duke. The room was nice and clean and I was facing the street on the second floor (room 204). When I arrived back later that evening around 8pm I was able to find a parking spot quickly on the basement floor of the garage and entered the elevators to go to the 2nd floor. I checked out the gym as it was on my floor (ellipticals, pelotons maybe?, treadmills, rowing machine and free weights) - decent for a quick workout. I turned in for the night around 8:45 and the linens looked clean but didn't smell "fresh" and then noticed I could hear the dreaded stomping above me... and then I could hear the man next door hacking/clearing his throat. The man eventually stopped but the stomping basketball dribbling seemed to go on until 10:30pm. I did not get a good night's sleep due to the "thin" ceiling and I was awakened by the street sounds the next morning). 2.5 stars for price and convenience to Duke. Will pay more next time to stay at the other place down the street.
