First time here for the 7:30 Saturday show with my teen. She didn't want to go but ended up laughing the whole time! We both really enjoyed it. We didn't really know what to expect but the host did a great job and the cast members were so funny! It's just like Whose Line is it Anyway. This would be a great spot for any occasion-date night, family night, girls night out, etc. Tickets are cheap and they're a non profit so the entire cast are volunteers. This was my first visto Unscrewed Theatre and we had a great time! We got there right as doors were opening and were able to seat front and center - we were part of the show. What a fun spot! I have attended many shows, but with COVID-19, it's been 2 years since attending a show. This is an improv theater with multiple troops which perform. The theater offers classes and puts on multiple shows on Friday and Saturday. I went with my husband and another couple last Friday to the 7:30p family friendly show. At $8 for an adult seat, it's well worth it. They sell concessions, so drinks and candy are available. The website will give updates on special shows coming up. There generally are family friendly shows and the later adult themed show at 9, with perhaps bad words, or adult topics allowed as part of the skit line ups. My favorite skits include the Dating Game, and Late for Work. This evening's show was all musical with Cy on the keyboard. I first learned of this venue years ago, as my friend with cancer started attending to get a little more joy after starting cancer treatments. Since the shows rely on audience feedback it's all about the audience. The troop is so talented, I highly recommend checking out a show. Went to the family friendly 7:30p show with my wife and kids and another family and we had a great time. Our kids ranged from 2nd - 8th grade and they all enjoyed themselves. If you've seen "who's line is it anyway" this show is very similar. Multiple improv games/ skits. They did a great job involving the suggestions of those joining on Zoom as well as the in person audience. We were able to buy our tickets online and at $8 for adults and $5 for kids it was a great deal for a funny hour of entertainment that didn't involve any screens! read more

This is such a cool place! I took my husband for a surprise date night! It's improv and you're supporting a nin profit who also supports other local non profits. They offer acting classes here for those interested. They have open night mics here for anybody to broadcast their art. This theater is a wonderful place to watch and learn improvised comedy. The staff and improv comedians are all wonderful people who are incredibly welcoming. I have had the pleasure of watching some of their amazing shows and taking their classes. My personal favorite shows are their improvised musical theater group "From the Top" and their monthly Free Form Friday which features new improv teams from all over Tucson. They also offer classes like Improv Basics for those looking to learn the improv techniques. For experienced improvisers they occasionally have guest teachers come in for advanced workshops. I was lucky enough to take a class here recently with a veteran improv comedian, Paul Vaillancourt, and it was quite a treat! We love Unscrewed Theater! We have gone here with our kids (ages 9 - 14) many times, and we always leave happier than we come. The improv is family friendly (at least during the family hour) and interactive, but they never put anyone on the spot. The ticket prices are reasonable for an hour of entertainment, and we appreciate how the theater also works to support other nonprofits in town. We went there a few days and it was different. The only other place I had been to was laughs on Broadway and that's kind of what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised it was different. The unscripted style was very entertaining. The price, $8 a person, was really reasonable too. Next time I will get a couple pictures. We will absolutely go back. read more

It's been increasingly difficult to find family activities that everyone enjoys as my kids get older. This was a big hit! Family-friendly without being "childish." It's definitely fun for all ages for families but also would be fun for friend/coworker outings, date nights, etc. There's even an online option where you get to watch and be included in the suggestions, so also great if you're bored at home. It was ok. It was not funny enough to make up for having to wear a mask. I was told that following the science and wearing masks was the only way to keep us all safe. It was very funny watching the performers mask, unmask to perform, mask, unmask to perform....because, you know, science! I am disinclined to return until they stop the mask nonscience. read more

This is an improv theatre which means no scripts and just plain fun. It is a family appropriate show. Every show is unique and different due to the audience participation. Always a guaranteed night of laughter. The actors are always amazing how quickly they think on their feet. I love this place. Right now they are in the process of moving to 4500 E Speedway and are doing performances next door for free or a nominal donation until they get into their new home. I've been to Unscrewed Theater several times now and absolutely enjoyed myself every time. Because of the nature of improv, each evening is a completely new experience. The talent is very talented! They really interact with the audience so that the show is a tailored experience each time. There are family friendly shows earlier in the evenings on weekends, followed by the adults-only show. Unscrewed Theater shows are both fun and affordable and the performers are kind an accessible. Four years ago I went to my first improv show there and immediately inquired about taking classes. I met Michael Vightinghoff, a long time Unscrewed Theater performer and signed up for classes. Improv classes were life changing. My best friends were made in my 101 class and they continue performing at the theater today. Wow, this place was soooo much fun. I had no idea it even existed. We googled "what's going on in a Tucson this weekend" and this showed up so we figured why not. We like to give local businesses some love. For a very reasonable $5 you get in. If you want candy, soda, or water you can buy it very inexpensively upfront. If you're looking to laugh like crazy for an hour straight, you need to check this place out. Lastly a very cool side note is that they support other philanthropic entities in town. For an inexpensive but hilarious evening out I suggest Unscrewed Theater's improv comedy. They have several teams of performers specializing in musical theater improv ("From the Top"), Comic book improv, especially suitable for kids ("Comic Chaos"), and the main house team providing short-form "Whose Line Is It Anyway" type routines, "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed". $8 or less for adults for an hour of fun, and for $10 on alternate Saturdays you get two shows, the second one adults-only and completely uncensored. They also teach improv, and they have free drop-in classes so you can try it, no obligation, just to see if it's as much fun to do as to see. A terrific deal! read more

Let me preface that I have been a bit spoiled by places such as the upright citizen's brigade in NYC (where SNL stars come from). So overall this is an amazing show... especially given how it is only $5. It provided lots of laughs and they are really big on audience participation... Oh and yes... they seem to frequently have local flare jokes (but stuff out of towners would even get). The reason that I don't give this 5 stars is that there seems to be a huge disparity in talent. Every improv group has its clear j/v guy and its all-star... For unscrewed theater the j/v guy/s are simply horrible/minimally participatory. The others compensate heavily, but it is very easily noticed. HOWEVER... do go! You'll have fun! read more

Not bad. It was a tiny slow, but overall not bad for the price. It was $8 for adults and $5 for kids. I mentioned on the reservation that it was a celebration for my daughter's birthday, but they didn't even mention it. It was ok, maybe with more experience they'll get better. Beautiful theater that is all sparkly fresh and new. Comfortable seating, intimate stage. Enthusiastic performers and the super charged audience that is voracious to participate. People shout out suggestions and readily volunteer if there is a chance to go on stage. The early show at 7:30 pm is family friendly. The Later show is hot and spicy and for the adults who like their comedy mas caliente. At $5 it is very affordable. Tons of parking in a well lighted lot. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase. The cast comes out after each show to shake everyone's hand. Great place to go with friends or just for fun on your own. I've loved this place since I moved to Tucson, such a great place for inexpensive fun and laughs. Love that they're offering live zoom shows and also feel so incredibly comfortable going in knowing they're checking for vaccination status and requiring masks. The owners are amazing people and all the volunteer comedians make my night everytime I'm in. I recommend this place to anyone I know and always bring in guests when they're visiting. Only suggestion I have is to provide more instruction after purchasing an online ticket. We eventually figured it out, but didn't know to get on through email until we called and asked. read more

Unbelievably and incredibly amateurish and unfunny. I'm familiar with improv so had great expectations going in, but it was a dreadful experience. The level of humor consisted of the participants shouting and grimacing at each other. Wit and cleverness were largely lacking. It was awful. That being said there were people in the audience laughing and apparently enjoying the show. I also see the many positive reviews and frankly do not understand them. My wife and I enjoy comedy, but this wasn't it. A word about all the five star reviews:-A large number of five star reviews often indicates friends and relatives of the business. While 5 star reviews are in general a reflection of excellence, too many of them are often suspect. read more

At the suggestion of a friend, we checked out the family show at the Unscrewed Theater on a Saturday evening. The ambiance is what you would expect, close knit and welcoming. From the moment you step in the door you are greeted with warm smiles. Truly, it is like coming home. On this evening there was a line but it moved pretty quickly. There is an option to purchase light snacks and beverages to hold you over which was nice. The cost to see the show was $5 which was definitely affordable and a great way to spend the evening without breaking the bank. Upon walking into the theater you are greeted by the performers who you can tell are there to entertain. With big smiles and warm handshakes, you truly feel welcomed into the intimate crowd. All the seating allowed for optimal viewing and since it is improv, you are invited to give them suggestions such as phrases and words for their sketches. The take away was this: these people do what they do because they enjoy making people laugh and it truly shows. The whole time I was there I felt as though I was at a really good family reunion. The best part for me was that I truly admired the fact that they are supporting creative arts and since they love it so much, you can feel their passion. read more

Have I really never reviewed Unscrewed Theater? I find that hard to believe since I think it is one of the greatest things since sliced bread. They are in the process of renovating their new home and in the meantime are building community and performing at Dedicated, the gluten free bakery next door. We hired Unscrewed Theater to run a special corporate workshop for us at the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law's Winter Meeting in Tucson on January 23, 2020, with a focus on applying improv skills to attorneys such as thinking on your feet and skillfully reading situations. We were not disappointed. Co-directors Chris Seidman and Michael Vietinghoff arrived at the Hilton Conference Center on time and set to go. They quickly put us at ease and divided our group of 24 into two manageable groups and led us through different progressions of cooperative (and uncooperative) dialogues. We are a geographically diverse set of construction attorneys and consultants, and it was a pleasant surprise to watch as an unspoken glue of trust/understanding developed between us as a result of these exercises. They also imparted a kick of positive team energy at the end of the workshop, which led us back into our afternoon sessions. I received a ton of compliments on the workshop and would highly recommend Unscrewed Theater for any private event you may be considering. Awesome entertainment! I stream all kinds of stand up and it takes intelligence, charisma and skill to really tickle my funny bone. These folks are absolutely great!
