This was my first visto Unscrewed Theatre and we had a great time! We got there right as doors were opening and were able to seat front and center - we were part of the show. The improv troop were great - we laughed our @$$ off! Friendly staff, great location, clean venue, good vibes. We will definitely be back!

Thanks for a great show 7:30pm Saturday... hoping to set up a fundraiser for April. This month the charity is Wings for Women.

What a fun spot! I have attended many shows, but with COVID-19, it's been 2 years since attending a show. This is an improv theater with multiple troops which perform. The theater offers classes and puts on multiple shows on Friday and Saturday. I went with my husband and another couple last Friday to the 7:30p family friendly show. At $8 for an adult seat, it's well worth it. They sell concessions, so drinks and candy are available. The website will give updates on special shows coming up. There generally are family friendly shows and the later adult themed show at 9, with perhaps bad words, or adult topics allowed as part of the skit line ups. My favorite skits include the Dating Game, and Late for Work. This evening's show was all musical with Cy on the keyboard. I first learned of this venue years ago, as my friend with cancer started attending to get a little more joy after starting cancer treatments. Since the shows rely on audience feedback it's all about the audience. The troop is so talented, I highly recommend checking out a show. If you decide to attend two shows the same night there is a discount! This is a Tucson Treasure

Do they serve alcohol at this venue? If not, can you bring it in?

Hi Jessica! Unscrewed Theater does not have a liquor license, and we would request that you do any alcohol consuming before entering the theater. Thanks!

It was unfortunately really hot in the theater and not sure if they don't have AC or it was down, but the only area that was cool was by the front doors, not in the main place where the show was held. We came in on a game show day. The actors tried their best, but it just was really one note, lackluster and not funny, at least to us. It seemed like there could have been more of a mix between more advanced actors vs newbies/students...or at least it seemed that way. They did take audience recommendations, like Who's Line, and that helped keep us engaged. Things seemed to drag on, otherwise, and we wished there was more creativity, quickness and wit displayed. We tried this place out and it's just not for us.

The instructor emcee had a buzzer which I found a bit irritating. She kept things moving forward, albeit, so fast scenes were not allowed to develop. It was a student showcase and the theatre was full. After the student showcase was an Improv Troupe, I forget their name. They were good but I lost interest after about 10 minutes of the same game. The cost is reasonable at $5 plus the cost of refreshments which are available in the lobby. We lucked out and found parking in front. Others in our group parked down the street but it didn't seem to be difficult to find a space. I love supporting local theatre and would definitely go again.

I almost didn't even recognize the place. It still has a very down-to-earth local eclectic feel, well also giving modern new and fun. This is the kind of place that makes you proud of Tucson and want to bring your out-of-town visitors! I was in love with the outdoor movie screen setting they now have as well. I can't wait to partake in that. I also enjoyed the snacks that are provided. They have some vegan treats as well which is nice to know for those with different food needs... and they also looks yummy too! This time around I just got a lemon cookie, which was everything I needed it to be. I also love that the theater houses local film festivals, and what not. I know that they also show films for the culture , yet somehow they're never playing when I look up Showtimes here. I really wish they would do this more often. Definitely check out the loft if you haven't been here, or even if you have. I will definitely throw the theater out more when looking for movies with friends!

Then the venue suddenly changed from Dante's Fire (Grant/Tucson Blvd) to the Viscount Suites (Brdwy/Swan-ish). Location wasn't problematic but part of the appeal (and brightly underscored in their advertising) was the gourmet meal at the behest of Iron Chef Ken Foy. The circumstances for the abrupt change had absolutely Nothing to do with Magic Dinner Theater (MDT). Rather, Dante's themselves had the rug pulled out by their building's owner when they announced sudden closure of the premises for remodeling leaving both MDT and Dante's without a venue. MDT did a remarkable job (as explained by the boss and MC, Ross H.) finding a replacement venue and relocating all of their equipment in a matter of one week. Suffice to say, the dinner was a bummer, at merely cafeteria quality (green beans, mashed potatoes and thin turkey slices with gravy). I didn't even bother photographing it. That said, the "theater" part of the MDT was a joy, with the entire event running from 6:30 - 10pm. There were six tables of 10 people each and it appeared that every table was sold out. With the exception of one table that had four kids, it also appeared as though everyone was "coupled." Starting (almost) promptly at 6:30p each table had a solo magician performing various (very impressive) card tricks right in front of you. After about 10-12 minutes the magicians would rotate. For nearly an hour you are literally blown away by the sleight of hand of each magician. Then there's a pause while "dinner" (ahem) is served which takes about an hour (salad; turkey; cannoli). Iced Tea is included but wine ($7) and well drinks (simple cocktails at $8) can be ordered from the wait staff at those super reasonable prices. During dinner is when the murder mystery takes place. Everyone is provided some clues and characters along with a police report and you have that dinner-hour to solve the mystery as a table. Three tables (including ours :) identified the character who committed the murder, the motive, and the lethal instrument (all three are required). One person gets designated as the table rep to collect a (inexpensive) gag/prize. The main event follows dinner and consists of another 45 minute show on the main stage by the featured/headliner magician. Throughout the show a handful of folks will be selected to help the headliner. All were female and none flatly refused. The magicians were all gracious whenever making you part of the public show and that is appropriate. After the show I asked how frequently the mystery changes and I was told there are 3-4 different plots so having gone to one doesn't foreclose another viewing down the road. The Viscount proved to be a valiant stand-in venue, save for the food. If the food doesn't/cannot elevate I would strongly urge Ross and Co to shrink the fanfare surrounding the food (and shrink the ticket fee) accordingly. Other than that, this was/is a really nice time.

The performers move effortlessly between humor and amazement, and the pacing never drags, every segment lands. What really elevates the experience is the intimacy of the venue. Sightlines are excellent, reactions are contagious, and even from your seat you feel part of the show rather than just watching it. The cast clearly loves what they do, and that energy travels. Dinner service is smooth and well-timed with the performance, so you are never distracted or waiting. Staff are attentive, organized, and welcoming, which makes the evening feel polished from start to finish. Perfect for date night, celebrations, or bringing friends who think they have "seen it all."
