Unleashed has a dog trainer, Sophia, who is an excellent teacher. Our 1 year old pup signed up for Adult 2 and after each week we (as the humans) and our pup got better and better. This resulted in a happier walking doodle :). Sophia takes time to explain why you do things in a certain way, shows us how to do the task then we do it with our pup. We are already signed up for another class and would recommend Sophia to anyone looking for a better behaved dog! As for the store itself, it is your run of the mil Petco. Excellent staff that is knowledgeable and helpful. Pretty much the moment you walk it, a staff member is greeting you and asking if they can help you. I come here all the time and make good use of the staff's knowledge. They are all pet owners, and can advise you on pretty much any topic. On some weekends, this location has rescue dogs outside. I got an English Bulldog puppy and pretty quickly realized that I needed help. I enrolled in Petco's puppy class with Melina because it was super affordable and conveniently located. From the start, I was really impressed. Melina is calm and confident with the dogs and she is a great communicator with pet owners. She is positive, affirming and SO knowledgeable about what works for you and your dog. We did a second group class with Melina and I was equally impressed. My bulldog and I are currently in private classes to address some recent behavior issues, Two classes in and she is definitely improving. I would highly recommend Melina to help identify and address any training issues you might have with your doggie! read more

Five stars for dog trainer Melina who did an amazing job with our beloved little girl, Roxie! We began one-on-one puppy classes during the pandemic, and Melina took great care in teaching Roxie commands. Although our success in reinforcing lessons was at a slower pace at home, Melina was fantastic at holding Roxie's attention, keeping her focused on task, and challenging her with new tasks each week. Because Roxie had such a great time, we signed up for a second round of lessons with Melina to work on tricks and agility to help us learn constructive play forms to challenge Roxie and keep her from being bored during the long quarantine period. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Melina -- you can see how much she loves dogs, loves to train dogs, and she was always very kind to curious customers who sometimes interrupted our lessons. The minute I walked in I was greeted by one of the staff members. Already a great start. Store is big, prices displayed clearly, and the signs make it so easy no navigate. I knew what I came here for, but couldn't resist adding few treats for my BN. Overall Unleashed stores are good (although they have that specific smell in all their stores from the dogs and cats foods). Good pricing and lots of cool things for pet owners. Have been mildly curious about this chain of mini off-shoots from Petco's big box stores so we stopped by after dinner on Friday. Immediately we noticed the cute pet and owner seating near the front and the board advertising upcoming events, vaccination clinics and training classes. I'm sure being a smaller store - class size is probably smaller too which is always better for owner and pet providing more attention. This place just seemed cold and sterile though. Everything you'd expect to find in a pet store (food, toys, grooming supplies, treats, etc...) but nothing I couldn't get elsewhere nor an environment I found I could get excited about. I guess this type of store has its place - taking advantage of the buying power of the mega stores for prices in urban areas where a box store won't fit. Hopefully staff was just tired and having an off night as neither employee greeted us or asked if we needed help (we were the only customers in the store - and wandering a bit). Its OK, but I don't see myself returning. For shops this size I just prefer small, preferably locally owned and family run pet stores where you find a sense of community and culture that the big box stores rarely offer. read more

I was so very excited when I saw the sign for this place go up, because the next closest pet store to me was still incredibly inconvenient. I'm happy to report that not only is this store very convenient for me and my neighbors, it's also well-stocked and staffed by excellent, friendly workers. I'm in there every month or so to purchase dog food, and the staff members are attentive without being overbearing (or doing that thing where they stalk you through the store, trying to make sure you aren't stealing). Every single time I've been in there, someone has offered to carry to 35 pound bag of dog food out to my car. I really can't say enough about how clean and well-organized the store is and how attentive the employees are - it's rare to see a retail establishment with such a high level of customer service from every employee you encounter there. The only complaints I have about this location are: the parking lot is often very full and the store is rather small. I also think their focus is mainly on dogs and cats, so I don't know what they offer in terms of bird, fish, or small pet care and supplies. read more

This is definitely my favorite Unleashed store, by far! Everything is always neat and tidy, and the staff is amazing. Even if I don't intend to buy anything, I still stop by just to visit. Everyone knows my dog by name, and they always offer him plenty of goodies when we come. Everyone is extremely willing to help, and can point you towards the best products for your pets, from treats and food to training gear. A large number of the products that they carry (I would say the majority) are grain-free, so it's relatively easy to pick out healthy things. They also offer dog training here, and from what I have seen, they are super effective. Chelsea and Kara are really friendly and very patient, and the dogs seem happy to work with them. This particular Unleashed is also much larger than most other locations, yet it still has the local pet shop feel. I definitely recommend anyone to stop by, meet the staff, and find tons of cool toys and treats for your pets! read more

This is a review of Sophia who conducts puppy and dog training classes. She is the absolute best! Our 3 month old Corgi was biting, herding, and otherwise being difficult to the point that we were forced to separate from her most of the time. In the Puppy 1 classes, we eliminated most of those behaviors. In the Puppy 2 classes, we worked on extending that out to courteous and responsive behavior. Sophia was patient, very knowledgeable, and explained things to the dog and us very clearly! We were thrilled with our experience and highly recommend Sophia and the classes for anyone with a puppy. read more

SO Glad we finally in Arlington, we have large sized pet shop catering to both Dogs & Cats -- They have tons of cat items, food verity which they carry Blue a top choice. Always a pleasure shopping here. Convenient location, ample parking, very clean/nice/well-stocked store. Staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They've ordered products for us when the store was out of stock (pretty rarely happens, though). When we bring our German Shepherd in for a visit, they welcome him with open arms. Which isn't easy. He is a handful. The folks who work here are very clearly customer-focused and animal enthusiasts. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been in for a visit twice, once with my nine month old puppy. I love how I can go in and find exactly what I am looking for without roaming all around a big store. Since their focus is on cats and dogs, they have a large selection of every item you could dream of for your furry family member. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone came from behind the counter and played with my puppy and gave her treats. I felt like I was in a family owned independent pet shop (even though I went to one in the same day and had a much better experience at Unleashed) I plan to return very soon, even though I have a larger Petco right around the corner from my house. I also plan to enroll my puppy in the affordable classes soon. read more

Perfectly serviceable smaller version of Petco. Which is great because I have no idea why Petco (or PetsMart) has to be as huge as they normally are. Service is surprsingly VERY friendly and helpful, especially for a national chain store. Keep up the service and I'll keep coming back. read more

Pretty large Unleashed by Petco. I went last night for the pup's 3rd round of vaccinations through LuvMyPet and it was probably the least helpful run vaccine event. I noticed it wasn't as crazy busy as LuvMyPet events are during the weekends but the staff was least professional, joking around and didn't really know the answers to my questions (i.e. One of the guys John from a previous visit had insisted not giving the dog one of the shots included in the puppy pack because I did not live through deer....come to find it's a load of BS, my mother had his first shots done in NYC and there's no friggin deer there (unless I take him to play with deer at the Bronx zoo) and a vet suggested he get it regardless because the shot protects him from more than just "deer", never know what's lurking around, what dogs he comes to encounter, rather be safe than sorry, etc.) So I was annoyed at his mere presence but at least this time I had experience and knowledge from consulting with a vet under my belt so I felt more confident to make sure my baby got what he needed. Tip: As a new pup owner, I will admit I was a bit overwhelmed consult with a vet you trust and know your dog's med record and what he needs and if any of the LuvMyPet staff try to sway you or upsell you something, put your foot down! You're paying and it's your pup and like any responsible pet owner, you know what's best for you pup. read more

It's OK. Large, and an accordingly good selection of staples like food and litter. Service is friendly and accommodating. Surprisingly lacking in more specialized areas like cat nip (a grand total of 3 choices, including their own mediocre brand). Prices vary wildly, some treats seem to be priced on par with what you can find online, while others are more than double the price. The convenience for staples makes it worth it but they could improve in other areas. read more

Much more convenient than a Petco or Petsmart in a strip mall, this smaller neighborhood pet store has nearly everything, and the prices are the same as the big stores. The employees are knowledgeable and they all have pets of their own. We are taking obedience classes at this location, which are affordable and have few pets, which means more individual attention. I highly recommend this as an alternative to the big chains or the independent pet shops, which are often more expensive. read more

We have a corgi puppy, and we are big fans of the puppy play class and puppy/dog discipline/obedience classes offered at the PetCo Unleashed location on Lee Highway, especially those taught by Sophia of Tailspins. We learned of puppy play class via word of mouth, and ended up switching to the Tailspins dog classes because of Sophia. Dog classes are as much as for the dogs as for the humans, and we saw great progress with our puppy and appreciate her calm demeanor, patience with human and canines alike, and the ability to ask questions, get feedback and see growth in our dog. The only reason our dog isn't currently enrolled in a class with Sophia is that he has to be one year old for the next class. read more

We have enrolled our puppy in two regular obedience classes and also 'tricks' class. The trainer, Julie, is amazing! She is a dog whisperer! She is patient, organized and incredible at training dogs of all sizes. I particularly appreciate how helpful she has been with me and my dog; at six months pregnant, there are things that are just a bit hard for me to do, but Julie always works with me and assists us to better handle our large puppy. I highly recommend enrolling in one of her classes!!!!! read more

My 16 month boxer mix and I have been coming here for the past year. We come here regularly to buy their bulk treats- there is a large variety for just $5/lb! The store is always fully stocked, and if there's anything you're looking for, they'll check the back or make sure a shipment is in for you soon. It is ALWAYS clean, and usually the other patrons are fellow animal lovers so the atmosphere is always welcoming (although you may come across a certain grouch I had the displeasure of dealing with...) I haven't enough words for the attentive and caring staff. Josh and Cara continue to welcome my dog and me, as well as motivate us to be better trained (we're working on it!!) and give honest opinions and advice. I come here with questions more so than my own vet. This is definitely *our* pet store, and we'll feel guilty going anywhere else! read more

I went in looking for a HUGE dog crate for my puppy who was outgrowing his puppy pen and the sales person was so nice. She knew exactly what I wanted and got it down from the shelf with ease and a smile. I went back and had her fit the puppy with an easy walk harness. All in all, a great experience with helpful and knowledgeable and nice, friendly people. read more

Beware! They sell items commonly available elsewhere for 2/3 more. Even though the item I got was listed as $5.99 everywhere, including Petco online, the store sells it for $9,\.99. That is even more than my vet charges for it. The clerk was unsympathetic. I expect they have done similar mark-ups on most items since they are supposedly "organic." read more

I was happy with the customer service of petco, Arlington VA so I sign up for obdience class for my puppy. I was so disappointed by the trainer' attitude and comment. Her name is Chelsea, and her comment like "you are one hack of lazy dog" and stuff was so unprofessional plus she don't pay much attention to my puppy at all. I've gone in this store several times and the staff are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They always remember my dog when he goes in, which is such a nice added neighborhood feel. It's nice that the trainer is accessible and willing to answer questions, even though I'm not enrolled in classes. It's not your typical pet shop - it seems like they really cater to the higher quality/natural foods/treats. I love that they have the frozen treats/food section too. Everything I've bought here has a fresh feel, and the store is clean and well organized, and fully staffed. I much prefer this store to the big pet chains or the smaller shops where the staff tries to sell you everything whether you need it or not. I'd appreciate a few more sales since it's moderately expensive, but the prices are comparable to other chain stores. Definitely my favorite place to take my pooch for his supplies. read more
