Well, maybe not quite that long, but its history fades into the distant past. Now, it sits across from Starbucks and Gap Body, and cattycorner from the Black Horse Tavern in the middle of the Borough. While the neighborhood has certainly changed, the driving force of FNB&T has not. It remain dedicated to the prospering of those around it. What is most significant is that it takes its role as an anchor of the community seriously. They take good care of your money, and make a real effort to remain involved in the lifeblood commerce of Newtown. In this regard it does a great job. They make their operations training room available to community groups for meetings, and even offer their executives for places on the boards of directors of the many non-profits around town. When PennDot came to town attempting to "preserve" the Centre Ave. Bridge by basically destroying it, the Bank stood up with its neighbors and said, "Nay!" It threw its considerable influence around the right places, and the Commonwealth backed off. First National is a part of our community in every sense of the word. It is not for nothing that it is called a Trust company. It certainly has earned ours.

While my primary financial institution is open for a few hours Saturday morning, they open/close earlier and are usually very busy when I have stopped by. Not so for this TDB. We walked right in to conduct an international wire transfer. Everyone was masked, and the three staff were capable of handling the average of 3 customers doing their business. When we approached the the two tellers and announced what we wanted to do, one of them raised her hand, directing us to a private cubicle where she could take care of us. She knew what to do, filling out online forms with help from the information we provided. Ten minutes later we were signed, sealed and on our way out the door. She asked all the right questions, and easily accepted our explanation for the finer points of the transaction. All the while the professional yet relaxed demeanor of the bank and it's well trained staff kept us comfortable and moving forward. Need a good bank person? My interactions with various employees at this branch has been positive, the location is convenient, and they offer a wide variety of bank accounts and loan options. I especially love the bank's local history and continued focus on Bucks County...they have bank branches all over the county if you'd prefer to talk with someone rather than bank digitally. One other really nice thing about The First is that they are a one-stop-shop, meaning they have various bank accounts, personal and business financing options, their own local wealth management team, and they service their own loans so your mortgage will stay with them also instead of getting sold to some random lender. Great option if you want to consolidate your finances with a single bank.

I don't know how to distinguish one bank from another these days with so many mergers and acquisitions over the decades. Still, I have been through at least 4 incarnations that has emerged as a Wells Fargo Branch. They certainly have the best logo. They handle my personal and business accounts without difficulty and my international business needs are well served by this branch. There are many banks in Newtown (perhaps, too many). My money is at home here.

Seems a better system than making people schedule appointments in advance. Our designated banker took care of us promptly and even realized he had a way to save us a fee for what we wanted to do without being asked. That is smart service that keeps loyalty foremost in mind. Although a national bank, PNC has a neighborhood feel to it. Our other financial shops for both business and personal needs often fall short of such consideration. People aside, the infrastructure here is infuriatingly bad. During my last 3 visits, the drive thru ATM has been out of service. Today, because of this, I had to run in through the heavy rain with 3 kids to make a deposit. Needless to say, I was not pleased nor were my kids. While inside, I noticed that they installed a new ATM. In the past, the lobby ATM (made by Diebold) was quick and easy like in any bank. But they've replaced that perfectly fine one with some generic, Chinese made, multifunction kiosk and it is which is UTTERLY HORRENDOUS. It's slow, it's glitchy, it gives me blank white screens for minutes on end, the screen freezes when it's processing a deposit or about to dispense cash and it makes an annoying "ding" sound reminiscent of a Windows 98 error notification every time I touch the screen. I left thinking I need a new bank. There's no way I'm using this thing again. Hopefully they'll permanently fix their drive thru ATM and correct or replace the lobby one. If not, I'm really going to miss seeing the friendly tellers here.
