I was not totally jazzed by the selection in this place. And, to add to my woes, I just moved and can't find my corkscrew.

Because we had enjoyed Barcelona Wine Bar in New Haven (Yale), we decided to give the Cambridge…read more(Harvard) restaurant a competition between the Bulldogs and the Crimson. We loved the concept in both places: a wide and varied menu, the chance to learn about some unique wines, and excellent service. The score in this contest was a tie, and we can't wait to try both again for the overtime. We were given a table near the window and despite the fact that the restaurant filled up quickly, it was relatively quiet and felt somewhat private. Now to the review of the Cambridge MA location. Our server, Conrado, was attentive and allowed us to have a leisurely meal, bringing out each course as we had enjoyed the previous selections. We initially chose the "Trust Fall Flight" of 3 half glasses of wines that Conrado chose for us based on our desire to try reds from Chile, Argentina, and Spain essentially cabernet, merlot, and carignan dominant grapes respectively. All three were full bodied and rich, but for our second glass, my partner chose the Chilean Penalolen (Cabernet) and I chose the Spanish Sotabosc (Grenache + Carignan). It was a delightful wine experience, and all wines went well with our choices for tapas. We opened with meat appetizers: Jamon Iberico and Chorizo Picante. Then we had the Roasted Carrots and Beef Empanadas. Third offering was the Pork Belly and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. The base sauces for the second and third courses were delicious, and we used our complimentary bread to soak up every drop. We ordered 2 desserts: the Basque Burnt Cheesecake and the Chocolate Cake with Coffee Creme Anglaise and Almond Crumble. Both were delicious. We dined from 5:00 PM until we left at 6:45 for a play at the nearby American Repertory Theatre (a 10-minute walk for the fleet of foot). The cost including a generous tip was $85/person, and it was worth every penny, especially since my partner declared that it was her turn to treat.

Disappointing night at Barcelona Wine Bar Cambridge…read more We had a reservation, yet the evening started badly and never recovered. When we arrived, instead of being seated, we were asked to leave the restaurant and wait outside in the cold. Staff told us that some kind of authority was apparently about to close the place. Only after a while were we finally given our table, with no real explanation or apology. Once seated, no one came to take our order. After 15-20 minutes of waiting, I got up and went to the bar myself just to get a drink. The bartender asked for our IDs, which is fine, but then walked over to our table to check whether we actually matched our photos. For two 38-year-olds, that felt excessive and frankly uncomfortable. We had brought a bottle of wine, since corkage for $20 is listed online. The staff refused to open it. For the rest of the night, service was practically nonexistent. We kept having to look for someone to help us. To be fair: the food was good, and server Kevin was very friendly and did his best. He was the only bright spot of the evening. But overall, the hospitality was a total disaster. With so many good options in Cambridge, I can't recommend this place based on our experience.

Typical overpriced liquor store in an expensive part of Boston in the west suburbs right off of Commonwealth. I don't drink so I don't care how overpriced it is - I just came here for some water. But if you're coming here for liquor, it might be a little out of your price range. Then again you're on Yelp so you're probably not poor. Lol. But it's still a good store because I know a lot of you love to drink and these stores are invaluable to you then basically. Pretty good selection too, and friendly enough. Sunday morning rain is falling. Oh wait. Why did Adam Levine take over my review. Psh.

Prices are on the expensive side, but fairly standard for Harvard Square prices. They have the customary selection of beers, wines, liquors, and mixers, but they also have a section of Harvard apparel (like T-shirts, sweatshirts) and Harvard memorabilia (like keychains, mugs, coasters, etc), so it is a great place to also pick up some souvenirs while you are shopping for your beer! I also like that they sell accessories to complement your drinking, like plastic martini glasses and plastic shot glasses for a party. Their hours online might not necessarily reflect when you are able to buy alcohol. I walked in after 11pm one night and even though they were still open, I was told that they cannot sell alcohol after 11pm (not sure if that is only on specific nights or if this is a nightly rule).

There are seriously, seriously good beer selections that rotate (because they always try to get limited-run, rare stuff - and it runs out) and awesome wine stocked too. Ask Mike (look for the beard) for a recommendation and watch his face light up while he asks you your preferences and tailors his response. His knowledge is encyclopedic and his enthusiasm is infectious. He really makes the place special. Hard to reconcile these other reviews calling the place pretentious. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Michael. Michael is simply a genius when it comes to wine and the insights that he shares with his customers are fascinating and incredibly helpful. I've walked away each time with a greater appreciation and understanding of wine in general, and have thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. This has quickly become my "go-to" store and you'd be hard pressed to find someone as knowledgable as Michael. Importantly, you'll walk out knowing you made a quality purchase without having exceeded your budget, and that's always a recipe for success. Go, and ask for Michael - you won't regret it.
