DO NOT go to this hospital if…read moreyou have an emergency unless you are actively bleeding out from a gunshot wound; expect a 2+ hour wait, and they will not do anything to ease your pain nor listen to patient feedback. My partner was crying and shaking from intense stomach pains, and when we got there the triage nurse acted like my partner was exaggerating the pain without even knowing what the problem was. We sat in the waiting room and my partner would periodically go to the bathroom to vomit. After several times of doing this and about 45 minutes of waiting she began to vomit blood. She informed the nurse who shrugged her off and said they were waiting on a room. After another hour of waiting we still had not been seen and my partner was delirious from pain, lack of sleep, and dehydration. The nurses showed absolutely no concern nor sense of urgency. Stay far away from this place unless you are actively dying.

It was a different time back then, but she forged ahead and became a great nurse due to the people she worked with who became family. But UMMC has always been number one when it came to caring for its patients, having the newest technology, the best bedside manner, and that great hospitality of asking, "How are you doing, and are you comfortable." These are questions they ask the family. So, you can imagine how wonderfully they treat their patients. When you step inside or outside Mississippi, people know about UMMC because this hospital has built a reputation for doing everything in its power to heal you and make sure you have the best doctors. As a child, when I was here for the summer visiting my grandma, she would take me to work with her for a few hours until my Uncles came to get me. I have walked these halls starting out as a child and into adulthood. So, today, I walked down memory lane again, admiring the familiarity of the rooms, hallways, and the digital clock I once stared at as I was getting a cast for my right arm or the stitches I was getting above my left eye. I kept Grandma and a host of her co-workers on their toes. But let me tell you what was really special today. Generations upon generations have followed in their parent's footsteps right here at UMMC. I was talking to my mom's doctor, and he picked up on my mom's maiden name. He smiled and said, "Your Grandma used to work here."

On the night of 3/5/2026 and morning of 3/6/2026 I went into the emergency room with shortens of breathe due to being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in 1/1/2026 and forgot my meds in Ga. The level of care was terrible ,not great, i was discharged so quickly and told by security to leave as i waited for my ride , it was 1:30 am and I could not understand how a hospital has could treat patients in this way. NEVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!! WIlle Lynch Syndrome is ALIVE and WELL here!!!!

It has taken me almost 3 years to write this review. If I could give no star, I would. My feeling…read moreabout Baptist is that this hospital help facilitate in expediting the death of my mother (in conjunction with UMMC). My mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and though with that diagnosis, that is not what she actually died from. To this day, I'm not sure, nor the doctors, the cause of death. Her death certificate is a speculation. She showed signs of a UTI as she would develop them periodically. I called her doctor (Dr. Sanders, whom I really liked) to test her for a UTI. After being tested, I was told that she indeed had an UTI but later was told that she did not. I asked several times if they were sure because she was displaying symptoms. A week after that, she had a throwing up spell. My mother had awaken in the middle of the night the next night and she was despondent. Called an ambulance, admitted her in emergency at Baptist. They badly bruised her arm up trying to draw blood. They finally got someone in who was supposed to be able to do so but whatever he did, caused further pain and her arm to swell up. It was discovered she had an infection due to a blockage. She was taken to have a procedure to relieve the blockage. The nurse that took her up and the doctor that performed the procedure were very kind and comforting. The nurse that took my mother for the procedure brought my mother back much sooner than stated but his demeanor was totally different. He was not the friendly comforting nurse we encountered initially and after he dropped her off, he left without a word. A team of nurses came in to transfer my mother to her bed, they asked us to step outside the room (odd) and several nurse came in rushing in and they closed the door in our faces (odd again). I asked why the door was closed like that. I was given some excuses that clearly didn't add up. After the procedure, my mother was not waking up and 3 days later, my mother still hadn't awaken. Baptist was supposed to do an MRI to see what might be going on but for some reason, they never took her to do so and I asked and everyone was like Dumb and Dumber around there. We had been spending the night with her but went home one night and got a call the next morning that things weren't looking good. We rushed down and was with her as she took her last breath. After the shock, I had huge issues obtaining my mother's medical records and I was given hell and no cooperation. I was given road blocks, excuses, different stories, different dates to come back, and straight lies as to why I was not able to obtain her medical records. And for the alleged policies stated, no one could show me in writing such policies. That experience reeked of covering up something! It was like they were delaying so the hospital had time to cover their tracks. This in conjunction with the MyChart being disabled within minutes of her death really was unsettling. Fast forward, I finally got record after keeping up a fuss. It took quite a bit even though I was her caregiver for 2 years and I was with her at every appointment, signed occasionally on her behalf. It was very painful to do but I thumbed through her records at the time to the last procedure and noted she was given Fentanyl as her anesthesia...FENTANYL!. While this may be a customary anesthesia, why on earth would Baptist give a 92 year old who was weak, ill, frail with an infection FENTANYL?!!! So I'm convinced my mother could never wake up due to the Fentanyl in her condition. Side note: prior to all of this, Baptist emergency's negligence caused my mother to fall and injure her head! The photos below shows how vibrant she was at 90 and then her decline after Baptist (and UMMC) got a hold of her. Be an advocate for your love ones, these hospitals have the propensity to lie, cover up and kill their patients...especially the elderly!

On May 5, she was in visible distress--crying and shaking from IV pain--yet her discomfort was not addressed with urgency. Instead of removing the painful IV when requested, a nurse proceeded to place another one while she was still in pain. The same nurse also rushed her through discharge paperwork without ensuring she understood what she was signing, which felt dismissive and inappropriate. Medication management was another major issue. At discharge, medications that had already been discontinued were still listed and even administered. The discharge paperwork contained inaccurate information, which could have led to serious harm if my mother hadn't caught it herself. This points to breakdowns in communication and patient safety protocols. When I asked to speak with a patient advocate, the situation was escalated unnecessarily instead of being handled appropriately. It did not seem like staff were prepared to respond to patient concerns in a supportive or informed way. What was especially troubling was overhearing staff refuse to assist another elderly patient who needed help using the bathroom, leaving them in an unacceptable condition. Witnessing that contributed to our growing concern about the level of care being provided. We also had issues with discharge planning. Despite ongoing symptoms, our request for an additional night of observation was denied. Prescriptions were sent to a pharmacy two hours away instead of the hospital pharmacy as requested, creating unnecessary stress at discharge. Basic care needs were difficult to meet throughout the stay. Assistance with bathing was delayed, and we often had to request cleaning for the bathroom. The environment did not feel consistently maintained, and the layout made it difficult for someone with mobility challenges to use safely. Case management support was also lacking. When we asked for help with medical equipment and supplies, we were told to coordinate everything ourselves. The response felt dismissive and did not reflect the level of support we expected during discharge planning. Overall, this experience resulted in a complete loss of confidence in the facility. My mother now feels unsafe returning due to concerns about communication, care quality, and patient safety. I hope this feedback leads to meaningful improvements, because no patient or family should have to go through an experience like this.

There is no clear marking or signage, inside the building when you walk in on the main level, which level the walk-in clinic is on. As an FYI, it's located on the lower level. I asked someone who worked in the building, what floor the clinic was located on and they told me the fifth floor. I take the elevator to the fifth floor and sign in and the receptionist is looking perplexed. I was asked did I have an appointment. I told her no and that I was told I didn't need an appointment for the walk-in clinic. She then tells me to go down the hall, to another elevator bank, take the elevator to the lower level and that's how you access the walk in clinic. I get to the receptionist at the actual walk in clinic and she asked me did I have an appointment. I told her that I did not and that I had spoken with someone on the phone who said I didn't need an appointment for this particular location at that particular time. She then tells me because they all of a sudden got crowded, that the next available appointment was two hours after the time that I arrive and that they weren't taking walk-ins. I told her this is not information that was given to me less than 15 minutes prior to me arriving. When I looked around the waiting room, there were two other people in the waiting room. She then asks would I like to fill out my paperwork since I was already there. I told her that I would and I did. I was seen by a nurse practitioner in a decent amount of time and I didn't have to stay for two hours. Why the two stars: Because what I was told on the phone and what I was told when I arrived were two different things and it was less than 15 minutes between the two. The receptionist was not exactly the most customer friendly person in the world. Within 12 hours of me going, I developed congestion after my initial with diagnosis and was refused a prescription for Mucinex D. Due to the backwards laws of Mississippi, you have to have a doctors prescription for medicines that contain pseudoephedrine due to the math addiction problem that everyone is having. Lastly, I give Baptist credit for having a clinic that you don't need an appointment for, but I would be mindful and cautious that if they do get busy, you will need an appointment and would just go ahead and call and make one, just to cover all of your bases.
