Good place for art supplies. They meet the needs of Purdue's art students but also have a lot for the general artists and art hobbyist.

Whenever we need a gift for a kid, this is always the place I head to first. You can also buy books online and they will deliver them to you (locally) for free. I also appreciate their concern for safety during the pandemic. They're the only local business I know of that kept their mask mandate in place after the CDC guidance in May 2021 that vaccinated people didn't need to wear masks. Since many people in Indiana aren't fully vaccinated and most no longer where masks except where required, I don't really feel comfortable taking my unvaccinated child many places and I appreciate Second Flight Books' concern for children under 12 (and high risk adults). I know they've taken some heat for this policy, so I just want them to know how much it was and still is appreciated by our family.

Well organized for a small space, do not forget the basement! They have a sister store downtown too. Value is typical for a small store. Running a comic shop can be tough, but for some stores, the joy of browsing old issues and feeling…read morethe comics is what makes them special. Unfortunately, this store doesn't quite capture that magic. Upfront, I want to say that it appears to have been around for a while, attracting dedicated comic fans. It is doing something right. It also hosts local card tournaments (and maybe D&D?), but I can't speak to the variety of those. This might be their bread and butter. Not sure. The comic section, however, is a mess. As soon as you walk in, you pass a narrow row of shelves about 5 feet tall facing away from you--it's unclear why, but it makes the space feel small or uninviting. Still, it isn't a large space, and it doesn't match the charm of classic comic shops. Felt more like I was entering a dark porn store from the 80s. For my trip, I had read revieews and as a local comic store, I wanted to check it out. I was looking for back issues. Remember stores with hundreds of boxes overflowing with comics packed in too tight to see the comics? Yep, that is this place. Navigating the shop is tricky: new comics are on hanging shelves too close together, forcing you to crouch and strain to see them under the shelf above. Independent comics are on the far left of the store in the back - between the boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes of back issues. The backstock is packed with rows of comics, about 25% overflow in each box (plus stacks of comics on top of those boxes). Very hard to browse. When you do find a title, the comics tend to be dusty, and although sealed, I didn't have my glasses to check for spine ticks or other issues. But, it can't be good to store comics on top of a box without a lid. If you're hunting for key back issues, forget it--these have been picked over like roadkill in the desert; there's nothing valuable left. Instead, you'll find many comics priced between $1-$2, labeled at $4-$8 or more, but most are from the past and generally worthless. I can't tell if the store is clean, but it felt dirty (maybe the lighting or the dusty boxes?). If I were to advise the store - even though they seem to be doing fine - I'd suggest selling your stock on Whatnot, starting at $1 per comic, to gauge interest. If you can clear out 35% of your back issues that way, you won't need to sell low-value comics at higher prices. I understand the reluctance to take losses - I've felt the same - but if your stock is holding back from creating a warm, vibrant, energetic atmosphere, it might be worth doing. There's no shame in dumping unsellable stock as a tax write-off. Listing those low-priced comics at $4-$6 could generate significant revenue and help the store thrive. Personally, I think this is the best approach, as you don't need to spend hours selling thousands of comics. I will note that the staff were friendly. I spoke with one staff member and they are knowledgeable about the stock they had. My guess is this might be where the store shines for people. The human touch. I so wanted to like this place. But, maybe I wait until I make trips to Chicago in the future.

The family working here is very kind and knowledgeable. Very conversational as well. I've never…read morefelt more welcome in a business, even though I only pick up one new comic every month or two instead of having 10 ongoing series held at a time.

I adore this place! It has been my "go to" for music since I…read morewent to school at Purdue in the 80's. On my last visit, I scored 2 OOP Prince CD's I had been wanting to purchase but did not want to pay the obscene bidding prices on Ebay. I also found another CD that I didn't even know I wanted, but at their prices I had to own it. This place is a TREASURE TROVE for the old school album hunters and newer CD searchers. I can wait to return to look some more. Rock on JL Records! My your turn tables play forever!!

If you can't find what you're looking for here, then it doesn't exist. If it does, they can order it for you. There is really TOO many CDs here, with CDs piled on top of the racks, and in boxes underneath. It makes it kind of  hard for quick browsing, but if you like to dig dig dig this is the place. Although the selection is daunting, chances are they have what you're looking for. There is also a very nice selection of collectible CDs, boxes, promos, and stuff that you are just not going to find anyplace else. The used CDs are top quality; they don't buy junk like other used CD stores. There is a money back guarantee but I doubt you'll ever need to return anything. The only negative comment I have is that the prices of used CDs may be a little high for some titles. The big boxes are dumping back catalog new CDs for as little at $4.99, but you'll find a used copy here for $9.99. If you think a particular used title is priced too high, just ask. Often the price reflects availability. If it's out of print, the price goes up. If it's been reissued recently, mention that to the staff and the price might go down. They also stock many "import" CDs at ridiculously high prices. With high quality torrent downloads so prevalent, there is no reason to buy these "import" CDs. Selling your used CDs depends on what your selling. They buy used CDs based on quality and availability, and if they think they can sell it. If the title your selling is out of print or rare, you will get more. If the store has 25 Justin Bieber CDs in the rack, they may not even want it. They know what sells and they know their customers, so be prepared to take back home the Britney Spears CDs you listened to in elementary school. The vinyl loft has been greatly expanded, and here is where I think the real bargains lie. The price of used, near mint, and new vinyl is very reasonable. Even hard to find stuff is priced right. No price gouging here. Finally, they also buy and sell used DVDs and video games. I don't normally browse those areas so I can only say that it's available.
