I want to thank the crew at Universal Upholstery for bringing my grandmother's rocking chair back to life for my baby's nursery. Their craftsmanship is impeccable, I am thrilled! The service was very convenient, the chair was picked up from my house and delivered it back to me once it was finished. I thought the price was a great deal considering how cheaply furniture is made these days. If you can get a vintage piece with solid bones updated it's so worth it! read more

Excellent service and superior quality. I was referred by Tommy Bahama in Newport Beach. The fabric I selected was a bit tricky, but Luis is a true professional and the result was beautiful. I highly recommend him for any upholstery projects! read more

Such bad communication. The guys at the store know nothing. You have to text or email Luis who rarely communicates back. "Please can you tell me when my work will be done?"... no response. They do good work but I have had issues with items being made too small or too big. Even when I have left them the actually cushion. I've been using them for a dozen years but I probably won't in the future. read more

Beautiful work and great value and quick. Customers service is excellent! Luis really is an expert at what he does. I highly recommend this place. read more

Unfortunately I have to echo others who are disappointed with Universal Upholstery. A great reputation was built by Raul (father) and when he retired Lois (son) took over. Too lengthly to describe the details here but if you initiate a request for work to be done, the experience to follow will be a frustrating one. I am most grateful to have sensed a problem brewing in advance so, reluctantly, went elsewhere. Very disappointing to watch a, once successful enterprise fail after so many years of service to the neighborhood. read more

Do not use this upholsterer! Louis Rodriguez, the owner, was quick to give us a quote and pick up our furniture in March to be reupholstered and delivered when we returned to CA in June. Since we have returned, we have called and texted countless times and have even gone by the business (opened one time, closed the others) He promised to give us the furniture, but hasn't yet. He has our furniture, fabric and down payment and refuses to answer any calls or texts. I have never worked with someone so unprofessional and dishonest. read more

I brought an office chair here last week. Parking lot is a mess and I couldn't figure out where the entrance was. I asked and the guy working there didn't quite understand what I meant. First bad sign. I asked how much to repair to reupholster the seat and he said the owner wasn't there and would need to call me. I get a call an hour later. Guy says that it would be cheaper to replace the chair. I'm disappointed but fine. He also insists that I pick the chair up today. Not sure why today but fine. Bring the chair home and realize the seat is now collapsed and broken. They didn't even tighten the screws they loosened. Now I have to throw away the chair because I can't use it. I don't even feel like calling. I'm cutting my losses. It's just ridiculous. read more

I used to LIVE this place. Raul was awesome and I've had him reupholster many many pieces over the course of 20 years. He does impeccable work and was so darn nice in so many ways. I dint know what Harford to that place. I've attempted to contact then for a small job for 2+ months. I've sent photos of my furniture asking for fabric yardage advice. I final have up. I hope Raul is ok. Maybe his sin took over the business. All i can say is that the business took a bits five. It really went down hill which is a shame because Raul built it up with the best service, craftsmanship and A+ reputation. This days are done. read more

I have used this company to reupholster my sectional, a sofa, barstools, dressing chair and 2 antique chairs. Obviously i find their work to be fantastic. Luis has been wonderful. I had an unfortunate spill on a new reclining sofa. It was not something that could be cleaned. I ordered the same fabric and then contacted Universal Upholstery. It's best to call, and then email them or call Luis's phone as the number is provided in their business voicemail greeting. I sent a detailed email with photos. Luis contacted me, said he could do it, came out promptly to take a look and provide an estimate. The part that needed covering was removable. He removed it then and there and within 7-10 days called to say it was done and came back the next day to reinstall. It is perfect, and the price was reasonable. I am very happy with the work and response. I would highly recommend them. read more

Luis was wonderful! He was patient, kind and understanding. He really took my needs into consideration. He was able to take my 15 year old sofa which I love and make it look brand new. He did an outstanding job and the cost was very reasonable. And the turnaround time was unbelievable. I thought it would take a month and it was finished in less than 2 weeks. I highly recommend Universal Upholstery. read more

Universal Upholstery has been my go to for about 30 years. Raul and Luis are so easy to work with and never disappoint. The quality of their work is perfection and their prices are competitive and reasonable. I have used their services for clients, friends and relatives, always with the best results. They just finished reupholstering my dining room chairs which have been in my family as long as I can remember. They not only reupholstered but tightened some joints and oiled the wood. Can't get that just anyplace! I do not hesitate to recommend Universal Upholstery. Lynne Brem read more

Raul is very nice and attentive. They do excellent work and very timely. You will be pleased.

Excellent work. Professional and detailed. I would use Universal Upholstery again. They were recommended by several friends and they don't need to advertise because word of mouth lead me to this great business. I would highly recommend Universal Upholstry. read more

First time I've reupholstered anything and I went big - two large chairs and a huge sectional. Luis gave me great advice on where to find fabric and told me how much I needed. The cost including fabric (which I purchased separately) was half what it would have cost me to buy new furniture and I liked that I was not adding large items to the landfill. The final product was better than the original, Luis was extremely professional, and he picked up and delivered the pieces. He also accommodated my request to expedite the work because of out of town guests we were expecting. I noticed a minor issue on a cushion seam that he fixed immediately, picking up and dropping off the cushion in a matter of days. I recommend Luis and I will return to him when I need other furniture reupholstered. read more

Luis is awesome. He reupholstered a chair and stool for us and we couldn't be happier. They now look better than they did when they were brand new. The prices are very reasonable (and we called several places), as is the turnaround time. We really appreciate Luis going above and beyond to accommodate us when we needed our stool done quickly for a performance. I absolutely recommend these guys and won't hesitate to use them again. read more

Terrific Good work Nice guys and I'm a happy client!! They go the extra mile!! Chairs look great and project was reasonable! read more

I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about this upholsterer. We had a Pottery Barn sectional that needed to be modified. We needed the one arm loveseat to become a one arm chair - and Pottery Barn had discontinued the fabric so we couldn't just order a new piece. Universal Upholstery was able to cut down the original loveseat to a chair, and using only the original fabric on the loveseat, finish it so that it looks completely perfect and seamless. They came in at about 1/3 the price of other quotes. They worked quickly and picked up and delivered the furniture. Absolutely thrilled and will bring them every bit of reupholstering business from here on out. read more

Look no further! These guys are amazing. My dog tore up two of my couch cushions. I really thought they might just be able to try to close them and I would put them in the back. Wow! was I amazed. They look like brand new. They were quick and a very fair price! read more

I have just received my dining room chairs beautifully reupholstered. Raul and Luis were great to work with. They worked on our 30 year old dining room chairs bringing our treasured dining room chairs back to life. We were very particular whom we hired as our chairs have double pipping all around the seats etc. They were able to gingerly reupholster the chairs with all the details these chairs needed. I don't think anyone else could have done such a great job! Kudos to Raul and Luis @ Universal Upholstery. Highly recommended!! Iris Coppola read more

Luis did an absolutely fantastic job on dining room cushions. Couldn't be happier

Great local upholstery. We called in and asked about fixing the leg on our dining room chair. He gave us a very reasonable price and so we dropped it off the same day. The repair took 3 days and we had it back in the same week! He only takes cash, so make sure to bring that when you pick up your item. read more

They did 4 dining room chairs for me. While the upholstery work was good, the frustration of dealing with them is not worth it. There were significant surprise charges on delivery that were not quoted. They frustratingly do NOT return phone calls or emails. One chair was returned without the wood plug that covers a screw hole. I have been trying for over a month to get a plug to cover it. At one point they committed to coming to the house to take care of it - then I never heard from them again. Do not use them if you expect customer service! read more

Raul and his team did an excellent job on my two tufted armchairs. The price was reasonable, and they were a pleasure to work with. I will use them in the future. read more

I called Universal Upholstery because of the reviews I read on this site. My call was answered immediately by Raul and I received a call from Luis that same day asking how they could help. I explained that I had a couch and an oversized chair that were the exact size for my living room and I wanted to explore having them reupholstered. We set up an appointment, he measured the furniture and educated me on the process since I told him I had never done this before. Luis was kind, patient and very informative. I immediately felt that he not only knows what he is doing, he is discerning about what will work best and generous in giving me guidance. The turn-around was fast and the price was reasonable. The result? The workmanship is outstanding. I am so satisfied with the result and whether you are a professional or a novice like me, I highly recommend Universal Upholstery because they didn't try to 'up-sell', tell me one thing and do another or in any way compromise their integrity earned from their 40 years experience in Laguna Beach. Thanks so much Luis! read more

Beautiful careful work at a fair price and reasonable turn around time. I highly recommend Raul and Luis.

Great Price and Quality! The shop is way back behind the building and a little messy but I really respect the guys and their quality of work. I brought in a cushion to have them make removable covers for that and several other cushions that were all different sizes (I brought in the measurements.) They made them all to fit perfectly and the price was very reasonable. I liked how they wrapped my cushion in plastic to keep it clean and handled it with care. Will definitely go back. read more
