I've been with Universal for just over a year now and I'm extremely happy with my experience with them. At the end of the day Vivian will push you to be as good as you want to be. She makes it clear upfront that she will put in as much time and energy into representing you as you will into representing yourself. With respect to classes, Universal requires it's actors to continue to build on their craft. This is to ensure that they are only putting out talent that they know are dedicated and continually pushing themselves. Acting takes time, energy, and skill, the latter being one of the most important aspects. This industry has a lot of talented people in it. In order to be at a competitive level to secure roles, it takes schooling and practice. Universal doesn't force actors to take classes, they simply offers these resources for students to learn and grow as performers. The agency is upfront about any requirements they may have for prospective talent to ensure they can accurately assess their skill level and they invite any questions you might have with respect to classes they offer. As someone who has taken several classes through the agency in different formats and skill level, I can say that the training has had a wholly positive impact on me and my performance capability. I know the bad reviews have a lot of ammunition, and people have different experiences. The other reviews are not my experience with this company. I know plenty of people through Universal that I've become friends with, and they've all had paying jobs. I was unprepared for roles when I first met with Universal, so they saw to it that I got what needed. Yes it cost money, but how much money does it cost for four years of university. Through Universal I've grown as a performer and I'm learning important things that will help me in the future. I've made connections and friends. So while 3/4 reviews are kind of sad I'm somebody who has known the company for longer than one bad experience and yes it costs money, quite a bit for people who would like to act for a hobby, but for people in the Calgary area serious about getting in to acting, Universal is a great start. Every thing takes time which is good to keep in mind when making choices on what you want to do. Don't get frustrated when acting also takes time to learn and master. After reading the three negative reviews, I thought I better write mine, as it is a far experience from what has been written. I have been represented by Universal for a couple years now and book several jobs through them. yes, they do offer classes and training, which i think is great, as their classes are affordable and help aspiring talent to learn the ropes. Acting is tough and takes a lot of hard work. There connections have allowed me to explore many options. I have also taken a few classes from them including their scene study and Master Class, both which have tremendously helped my young career. They do not charge to represent talent, nor have I ever had monthly fees. They take either 20% of what you make, so they do have to work hard to earn their dollar. Great honest people. They don't represent just anyone that walks through their door, so yes, I feel blessed to be under their network. read more

Being a student at Universal has been enjoyable. Vivian Woods is a great teacher. Her only interest is to help you become what you want. She has decades of experience and coaches you truthfully and strives to bring out the best in you to help you become successful in your field. Classes are fun and educational. I took my grandson in for an interview. Both ladies were extremely professional and knowledgeable. They recommended a class to get my grandson started in the right direction, so I signed him. He has never been happier with a class, as he is 12, we have done lots of different classes. He has also just finished his first audition, so will see how that goes.
