I'd give Kobo five stars if it was just a little bigger and possibly more diversified, but that isn't any fault of the gallery, it's just my preference. In fact, the emphasis on jewelry won it five stars from my GF, also due in part to the cool earrings she picked up there. Most importantly, Kobo is a co-op featuring Savannah-based artists and craftspeople, including woodwork, fiber work, and photography as well as jewelry. It's a real nice mix and I enjoyed talking with photographer Liza Crowley Judson about the co-op, her work and art in the Savannah area and beyond. My favorite galleries are those that are free of pretense, from the work to the workers, and Kobo is definitely a down-to-earth place. In a lot of ways it reminds me of City Art [SF] and Flux Gallery [Jax] just in case you happen to be familiar with either of those places. When I showed her what I had, however, she advised that she could definitely work with me and get my project started. The service I received here was outstanding. The owner is quite chatty, and I learned a great deal about their shop and the location while she worked to write up my order. I left my items and was told they would be ready on a certain date. She called me four days before the date they promised to let me know that my items were ready to be picked up. All that to say that the service, from beginning to end, is exceptional. I brought my two paintings home, and they are perfect. They're stretched exactly how we wanted them. I now know that these incredible pieces of art art properly stretched and will be well maintained for years to come. Thank you, Off the Wall, for such great work. I'll definitely be back when I need my next works framed. FYI - the gallery does more than framing. If you're interested in original visual art in many forms - not just pictures - you can't go wrong here. My next stop will likely be to purchase a couple of pieces that I'm thinking I can't live without.

Despite being busy he educated us on the works of the artists of the Southern Renaissance which was music to our ears as our minds and hearts ate it up. Some of the work moved me to tears. Every style, medium, and vantage point you can think of (or not know about) is here. It welcomes you via the front windows and swaddles you as you walk further in. And the team here are some of the friendlist folks you will meet downtown. And recommendations? They have plenty. They've been there for over two decades so they know a thing or two. Of course they can give you background information on each of the artists' whose work is in the shop and sometimes even some insight on the piece itself. But I also want to highlight a aspect of AOB that I constantly make use of; framing. Once you make it to the back (after joyful hours of looking at everything while en route), you will see a workshop area. There one or two team members will always be hard at work (though never too busy to answer questions). I have brought quite a number of posters, prints, and paintings over the years in search of their guidance in what frame to choose, how to frame it (matte/no matte/thickness of-color-etc.), and even the optimum glass. And every time they have come through. When I ask them to push me out of my comfort zone (aka, solid color frames), they did and my piece was the better for it. Their presence and their services are invaluable to downtown and our community. If you haven't been, or if it's been more than a week, I recommend you stop in soon. You can thank me later.
